Funny because GOW too had alot of gaalis.

I never said that GOW didn't have gaalis. What I meant was if you keep putting gaalis in all your movies and try selling it calling it USP of your movies, not everyone is going to watch it. People don't go to watch a movie just because there are lot of gaalis in a movie.

I don't think Anurag Kayshap is going to find real acceptance of his films until much, much later. He's going to be one of those auteurs who was never really embraced in his time but is subsequently seen as a cinematic great. GOW, Dev D, even Manmarziyan, his films are mostly unsettling, they're not designed to make you feel good. They have their audience but that kind of cinema is never going to be gangbusters at the box office. He'll get his due though, in due course.

Because he doesn't make mainstream films. He tried it with Manmarziyaan and it didn't work. It wasn't good either.

His best works are DevD, No Smoking, Ugly, and GoW. None of those movies have massy elements. You could say DevD does, which is why it's the only commercial success of Anurag's career.

He's the antithesis of Rohit Shetty/Karan Johar. Just like Rohit's obsession with shitty cinema and KJo's obsession with weepy melodrama, Kashyap is obsessed with character study of highly flawed people. His characters are flawed. They are twisted. They show the darker, uglier side of human behavior.

Usually, masses avoid such flicks as there's nothing for them. He makes movies for cinephilies and critics.

Is he a genius? No, he isn't. He's an utterly mediocre filmmakers in his own words but he's a genius within that mediocrity. He's amongst the top-5 filmmakers in Hindi cinema today.

I'm not fond of his recent works. But there's no denying that he's the king of independent cinema and an inspiration for all filmmakers.

I love Gulaal, Raman Raghav as well! I think Udaan is a beautiful movie too- though Kashyap only has writing/producing credits!

Agreed. He's a very good scriptwriter too, some would say he's better at that than at directing even. I somehow hope he's able to put another production house together since Phantom has gone kaput. Hopefully with Motwane again (who conversely is a better director than writer!) I like the sensibility they were going for with their films.
