Shah Rukh Khan joins Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in Brahmastra
Shah Rukh Khan set to shoot for a cameo in Ayan Mukerji’s third directorial, an adventure-fantasy, by the year-end.
Almost a year has passed since his last film, the Aanand L Rai-directed Zero, in which he played a protagonist of a short stature who travels to outer space, released. While Shah Rukh Khan has since returned to terra firma, he has yet to open up on his next project, despite speculations galore.
As November 2 and his 54th birthday nears, the rumour mills have started buzzing overtime with some insisting that the actor will be announcing not one but two projects on the day. Meanwhile, Mirror has learnt that SRK will defi nitely be back on the screen in summer 2020. The actor has a cameo in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy adventure, Brahmastra, which is fronted by Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, and features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Dimple Kapadia in central roles.
“It’s a guest appearance but Shah Rukh plays a pivotal role in taking Ranbir’s journey forward. He has already allotted his dates for his portions and will shoot before the year-end,” reveals a source close to the development.

This will be the second time that SRK and RK share screen space. In 2016, the former had made a guest appearance as Aishwarya Rai’s husband in Karan Johar’s intense love story, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which had also featured Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan. In Brahmastra, Ranbir plays Shiva to Alia’s Isha. His character has magical powers and can emit fire from his hands. The first instalment of the trilogy narrates Shiva’s discovery of ‘agni’ within him.
Mirror had earlier reported (October 17) that Ranbir and Alia will fly to Manali for a 15-day shoot of the Karan Johar production in November. The team is currently shooting in Mumbai’s Filmcity studio. “Another short schedule will take place on a set in Mumbai after the outdoors in Manali,” the source informs. However, there is on whether Shah Rukh will join the gang in Manali or at the city studio.
In April, Ayan had shared a heartfelt note he penned to SRK in which he described the actor as his ‘Inspiration. Obsession. Idol’. The filmmaker has worked as an assistant on two Shah Rukh-starrers, Swades and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and admits that the leading man was his biggest love at the movies through his childhood and teenage years. According to the source, Ayan has written a part that could have been portrayed only by Shah Rukh. “Shah Rukh himself likes Ayan’s work and immediately agreed to the cameo. And like everyone else’s in the film, even SRK’s character has the mythological touch,” the source concludes.
