Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his next directorial venture ‘Baiju Bawra’ that is scheduled to release on Diwali 2021.

Touted as the filmmaker's most ambitious film, the project comes after Bhansali shelved ‘Inshallah’ with Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt and announced that his production house would be co-producing ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ with Alia in the lead.

"After the release of #GangubaiKathiawadi on 11 Sep 2020, Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make his most ambitious film project...Titled #BaijuBawra...Revenge story of a maverick maestro...#Diwali2021 release” read a statement from SLB Productions’ social media handles.

Interestingly, it now appears that the director will be battling it out with his favourite actress Deepika Padukone as her film ‘Mahabharat’ has also been scheduled for a release on the same day. It was only two days prior to the big announcement that the actress revealed that she would play the role of Draupadi in the film that would also be her second co-production.

Considering all that is riding on the films for both the actress and the director, it remains to be seen if they will bow out of a clash or stick to their guns and go to battle with their epic flicks.

Deepika and Madhu mantena have not said that diwali is the final date, they said they would like to release it on diwali, but its early days as they have still got to find a director and cast

Both movies are ego/vanity projects and both are announcing them before there is anything concrete on the ground just to grab a big date.

They deserve each other.

Agree, DP doesn't even have a director yet, let alone cast and rest of the crew! Nowadays films are announced so early with one date then it gets changed a couple times. Don't the producers get annoyed on spending money to make several new sets of posters with new dates?

Bit confused how Draupadi is a vanity project? I'd imagine it's a dream role for any Indian actress. If the actual Draupadi Vyasa wrote about is portrayed on screen, it will be the role of all 7 lifetimes 😂

Ego project because it doesn't really even exist yet. They have no director, no cast, no nothing. What was the need for such an early announcement about a Diwali release?

She just wanted to show off her feminist credentials about a movie from Draupadi's point of view because she was getting a lot of criticism from her own fans for the Luv Ranjan movie. This took their attention off that.
