Fingers crossed, Bajaj wapas aa jaaye ya phir Prerna strong headed single mother ke role mein aa jaaye.

@bold they tried hard with the respective Lakshmi bomb in show and the audience deteriorated. This show is actually heading for the end depending on trp saga. Except for EK's ego issue for running a serial until the century.

Beginning of the end literally is the first sign of doom. The set of events that marks the end. Do, I am curious to see where it ends!

I assume you are a Bengali based out of Kolkata, pardon me if otherwise.

We can vouch, no one dresses in those garish sarees and polki sets.

Coming back to Bengali aesthetics:

  1. Where are the TAANT sarees?
  2. Where are the muted hand-painted sarees?
  3. Where are the muted gold chokers?
  4. Where is the beautiful Kajol?

All that BLING made my eyes go

Also,

The weird Dhol on Dhunchi Dance. The weird Jai Jai Durge Ma. Can't they play Mahishasur Mardini from Biren Krishna Bhadra?

Trust me, their TRP's would have skyrocketed because that is Bengali arts and aesthetics.

It looks very much like a PARODIED version of a Bengali STEREOTYPE that exists in the minds of everyone else.

This warped sense of aesthetics makes me shake my head in disbelief.

I agree ektas knowledge is very limited to Bengali culture. But in television it's only ekta who has brought the bengali culture to life.

All bengalis will know the importance of taant sarees, kajol n More so....Mahalaya chants by Birendra Krishna Bhadra.

But for a punjabi girl to appreciate other culture n bring it on to television requires guts which she has got. Because bengali culture is vibrant like the bengalis so to depict all is lil difficult

Also serials r based on TRP so OTT drama will be there.

Parineeta was a movie which gave me true bengali essence but devdas was ott

Kzk is ott too.....but it's the director n crew who handle it..also matters. For reference sake they should have consulted with few bengali directors as well

Just my thought!

First of all heartening to sense that you acknowledge the culture and aesthetics and how brutally this how ruins it.

There exists a prejudiced version in the minds of people who do not understand someone else's culture. This perception sometimes is a PARODIED version:

Like

1. A Jolly Good Sardar stereotype

2. An adulteress and cunning Bengali woman stereotype

and so on.

My stereotyping issues are deep-rooted, hence my angst.

Tell me about it- as a Punjaban ,it gets my goat when they completely butcher my culture.

We are all overloud, OTT,over affable, forever bhangraing slightly dumb clods.

The only Hindi movie that got the Punjabi psyche right is Maachis.

It's interesting how movies can get cities right- you actually get a sense of Delhi when you watch a movie like Vicky Donor or any of the Bombay based movies but they just can't get cultures right.

I am confused if I really want to until they actually air 'The End' for this series. A part of me is inquisitive over the end too, may be this season is dedicated to AnuPre after they realise the decrement in trp ever since Komolika track was crucial and gradually went off(in may).

God know what's there to watch now.

My curiousity would be instilled more if I already know who the happily ever after couple is here for how?!

I AM SURPRISED because they have Bengali creatives in the teams. My point is the whole tweaking of the culture to make it North Indian like. There's nothing against cultures or using them to mainstream art. Their whole effort looks like a cultural appropriation.

Word for whatever you said.

@BOLD - Ahh, that's Gulzar writing a screenplay and story for you. Machis was by far the most beautifully portrayed cultural nuances by Gulzar.

The subtle nuances of Teji and Pali, their subtle toffee romance, their moonlit talks, their sexual tension portrayed in the most realistic way possible. Thank you for bringing that reference and I am running to watch it again now.

Another movie which got it correct was a very old one. I don't know whether you have watched it or not but its called Ek Chaddar Maili si, based o the namesake of the novel written by Rajinder Singh Bedi. Those stories are classics but I wonder why such stereotyping with most of the other tales?

No, have not watched Ek Chaddar Maili si but will do so now.

I did spend a year in Cooch Behar as a child, though I wouldn't say I am very familiar with Bengali culture but even I know that Bengali's wouldn't be caught dead dressed as garishly as the Basu's do.

Great post 👏 I am not Bengali but big fan of the culture. i have watched various movies in Bollywood that try to depict the culture but always feel there is more to it than what is shown. Maybe stories by rabindranath tagore and parineeta gives bit or glimpse to it. I know KZK is nowhere in that league so my search continues and hope some good directory in near future does justice to it. Cheers 👍🏼

If you have any suggestion to watch good craft plz let me know 😊

Cooch Behar is a very different Bengali culture too. There’s a sect in Bengalis called Bangals who are majorly from Bangladesh borders or from Zamindar families. Their lanaguage dialect is very sweet and interesting.

You should watch Ek Chaddar... The original novel reading is an experience too. ❤️
