What's the problem with Anurag Basu 2.0? DT NT pg2

I've watched each episode of KZK1 except after Cezanne was replaced by Hiten Tejwani post 20+20 year leap? In my opinion, one of the main reasons why KZK2 never achieved the level of KZK1 is due to the fact how the writers butchered the character of Anurag Basu.

In KZK1, Anurag was the mild-mannered, soft-spoken son of Basu family. He always listened to his heart more than his head but he never crossed his limits. I could never imagine Anurag stalking Prerna after her marriage to Mr. Bajaj like he did in season 2. Whatever be his issues with Mr. Bajaj, Anurag never resorted to unethical ways like getting himself attacked to wrongly frame Mr. Bajaj. In season 1, instead of pestering Bajaj family, Anurag had worked hard on his career to reach the same level of success as Mr. Bajaj. (I loved the track when even after Mr. Bajaj's several attempts to sabotage Anurag's hard work, his newly founded Kay channel beat BTN network several times.)

Even the people who comment on Anurag being spineless for not standing up to his mother and marrying Komolika in season 1, it is to be kept in mind that his father was in coma and his mother had suffered a heart attack. Mohini Basu refused to take medicine if Anurag doesn't marry Komolika. It's easy to say he should have fought for his love, it would've been inconsistent with his character arc. Season 1 AB was always a good son, instead of always being a liability on his family as in Season 2. Though Prerna and Anurag were star-crossed lovers, their personalities were always different. I remember a scene where there was a bomb found near him and Prerna went to save him to which Anurag replied he has to get other people out of the premises. Prerna was always the strong and independent one who was fierce for the people she cared about, while Anurag was the good-hearted idealist who was naive at many times but who cared for all.

Now, the problem with season 2 Anurag is this, he was basically a decent person and I liked his character till Naveen Babu track. Then after Prerna's marriage to Mr. Bajaj, he went full-on psycho, stalking, getting himself attacked, hitting even Anupam and not giving a damn about people who care for him except Prerna. It seemed that the writers were too inspired from Kabeer Singh. It would've actually been refreshing to see a nice person as protagonist today when most of the male leads are shown as cold, insensitive persons with a backstory in the beginning. It would've been nice if Anurag Basu would've remained the nice person he was in season 1 and the beginning of season 2.

For the current track, I don't know if the show will run for long (given the TRPs) but if they wanted to add a real Ekta Kapoor style twist, they could've shown Mr. Bajaj and Komolika joining hands and killing Anurag (you know, Komolika saying if Anurag can't be mine, he can be of no one) and Anurag coming back with a different name and entirely different personality. I think it would give time for both Prerna and Anurag spending time with each other (both leads proclaim how much they love each other when the writers haven't even given them time to breathe). I would just prefer Anurag presumed dead and returning back with a different identity to give Komolika and Mr. Bajaj a hard time because the current track of multiple near-marriages is ruining the show and I would like to see Parth in an Avatar different from its angsty Kabeer Singh/ Manik Malhotra and clueless AB. It would also be fun to see the reactions of Mohini, Anupam, Nivedita(for some reason, I'm more invested in the secondary relationships like Anu-Mohini- Anu-Anupam, Anu-Nivedita) more than AnuPre.)

I also think the casting is mismatched in this season. Erica doesn't look comfortable in fierce and vengeful Prerna like Shweta Tiwari and Parth doesn't look like seedha- saada Anurag.

P.S.: I know the suggested twist is stupid but since I was younger, I always liked Kaho Naa Pyar Hai kind of plot where our simple, sweet hero dies in the middle half and his smart, charming doppelganger comes.

Regarding anurag I will say though I never liked anurag be it any season because I always rooted for RB but comparatively yes for me so far I felt last season anurag is better than this one. He did one mistake for which he has to pay for it his whole life.

There was a proper tracks, story development taking all the character together in that season unlike here.

(I'm just talking about the character, not actor before again anyone comes back to attack).

Undoubtedly Ronit Roy was the most talented actor among the cast and I always admire his acting (I've never missed an episode of Adaalat) but in season 1, the genuine care Anurag showed for Prerna and the lifetime of pain he had to suffer for his love made me root for him. My only complaints are there was no need to upgrade him. His character was naive, old-fashioned and that was completely fine. It made Prerna's courage and strength more commendable but they lost me showing Anurag as second Kabir Singh. I was also appalled how he neglected the genuine concern of Anupam, Nivi and Mohini. It would've made a lot more sense if he accepted and respected Prerna's marriage and instead focused on his career.

This is s2 so characters have undergone change.

I guess we will get all that we want when the story unfolds

Even I watched last season.

I genuinely feel even without any comparison with last season that

They just started the show for namesake.

No thought process went by.

First naveen babu, then komo, then RB, now again komo.

This is a sequence they are following.

I'm sure after komo don't get surprised if it's turn of naveen.

Main leads fell in love. Fine.

But what next they don't know.

Hence all this repeated mode stuffs with a difference of 10% here and there.

There are other stories too you can show along with main leads which they failed.

Sharmas has no importance to the extent that they were never showed if they are even aware that prerna got divorce from RB and is on the verge of getting married to her love.

This is what happens when you have no proper screenplay, proper planning of tracks.

How to move ahead taking everyone with you.

I’ve only seen clips of season 1. I think the biggest turn off for me regarding Anurag this season is that he comes across as a whiny child. He reminds me of Ranbir’s character in ADHM. Very suffocating. Agree the difference is that Prerna loves him here but he was still suffocating to watch obsessing over her without doing anything productive. I don’t connect to his pain, in fact either of their pain for each other. It’s probably because the writers never really added depth in their relationship. It’s like they want to keep telling us they’re soulmates but they’re not showing it. It’s all on surface!

First up, the basic thing that we all need to understand is that this season is not a remake of kzk1. It's a reboot.. The story is set differently. And the characters have different personalities. None of the characters of kzk2 are the same as kzk1, and very frankly who wants to see the same characters again. Who wants to see the same prerna, anurag, bajaj and komolika, especially Considering the brilliance of the actors who played them the last time.

Coming to the very characterization of anurag. Again, this totally a matter of perspective. What you see as upgrade/downgrade to me just makes sense or is realistic.. Anurag season 1 was larger than life.. He was too good, too passive.. His story was always the support act to Shweta tiwaris prerna. I'm not going to go into the nitty gritties of his character since we have a separate season 1 discussion thread in this forum. The way anurag behaved here, is more acceptable, albeit its again more dramatic. On account of the relationship they shared, anurag could NOT believe that prerna had betrayed him and he wanted answers. And once he got them, he wanted prerna away from Bajaj since he did not find him to be a good man. Why should he have stepped back once prerna married Bajaj? He could clearly see she was not happy, that something was holding her back and was forcing her to remain in that sham of a marriage. I've told this time and again that if anurag knew prerna was happy with Bajaj, he would've backed out because the core, the very core of anurag has remained then same. For anurag prerna comes first. I agree with you on the accident thing, and the excessive you are mine and soulmate rants but give me this anurag anyday over a self sacrificing and self pitying model.

Shweta was flawless as Prerna . This season actress is not able to carry this complicated role. She might have been good in her previous show but here she need to improve very very much and even the character of Prerna is hopless for me here .Anurag was gentleman in season one and mild character like you mentioned even then i never liked him 😆 but now seeing character of Anurag 2.0 i have started appreciating Anurag 1😆

Problem is right from start this show and character was butchered .Ekta should need to stop this remaking of such iconic show ,characters .
