I am kinda liking this wedge between HS and Mini. No relationship is perfect. And I am glad that their issues are out in open.

The notion that HS and Mini were perfect and that only Babita had flaws had to be broken sometime. Coz I never believed that Hs and Mini were a perfect people. So m glad for this difference between them.

I say bring it on.

Yup. I wrote my first post on this forum during that babita bashing phase (and that phase never actually ended). We're all(mostly) women here, it isn't hard to put ourselves into her shoes. I wouldn't go out and help a man who would question my character. Period. Screw him. But at that time HS-minnie bond was shining so bright that it kinda blinded a lot of people.

I have always been totally confused by Minnie's character(HS and babita are already screwed up as far as consistency in character is concerned).

Sometimes she gives lectures like she's BK Shivani of PB. Sometimes her immaturity gets on my nerves. I'm pretty sure she knows if she talked to her mother her problem would be solved. Why is she not communicating??????

Aww, please don't be scared. I still love reading your thoughts regardless of what the show does. It's always very insightful for me and I love to see what I failed to pick up on. 😳

I'm going to break it down in two parts - Imarti & Babes.

Imarti

1. HS & Imarti: HS has said multiple times that Imarti resides in him. He has also taken up her way of life as a way of honoring her post her death. It's admirable and it most likely influences his "No Woman Shall Cry" philosophy as well. However, because he has gotten so caught up in doing right by one woman, he's failing to see how his actions are hurting another. We already know that he's heavily reminded of his mother whenever he sees Babita. Whether it's the eyes, or her motherly nature, he's reminded of the first woman he ever came to love. We're also well aware of the stressful relationship he had with her. There is so much that went unsaid, so many things that he wished to do but never got to. Babita in some ways, is his second chance in rectifying his past mistakes. Whether it was his failure to stand up for his mother towards her abuser, or failing to save Imarti from any and all dangers; he's treating Babita as his one chance to prove something to himself. Perhaps that he's not a helpless coward? That he too is capable of protecting his loved one regardless of the obstacles that are posed against him? Not entirely sure to what extent, but he is in some ways using Babita to heal himself in whatever way he can.

In the midst of all that, he's neglecting Minnie big time. Whether he sees himself in her or he simply connected to her due to their shared tumultuous relationship with their respective parents, he is repeating history here to a certain extent. In his case, one parent was abusive and such, he never could get close to them in a way that he would have liked to. He was always shut off to them in some form; whether it was his mother trying to protect him from his violent dad, or his dad's violent tendencies pushing him away, the fact of the matter is that he never got to completely be with a parent. The same thing is happening with Minnie. She never got to be with a father and hence doesn't know what it's like to be around one. Though she had a mother, it was Minnie who felt like she had to play the role and teach Babes how to not only stand on her own two feet, but also how to fly. Now that her Babes had gotten married, she had in some ways hoped that she could finally be who she was always meant to be - Babita's daughter. There were instances where this could have happened but whether it was through HS' interference or Babes' own conservative thinking, Minnie ended up feeling farther away from both parents. Initially she had one, but now in some ways, she feels like she has none. She may have turned eighteen, but the yearn to just be a child must be strong within her.

2. Imarti & Minnie: It's often said that Imarti's essence resides within Minnie. Even HS has gone as far as saying that if Imarti and he ever had a child, then it would be Minnie. Heck, the love and connection that Minnie herself has felt with Imarti was so strong that she conjured up her spirit during the Uptan ceremony and danced with her. It ended with a highly beautiful moment where Imarti kissed Minnie's forehead as if she was passing on the torch to her. Giving her blessings with how pleased she is of Minnie and how she wishes nothing but peace and prosperity on her and the people residing in the Haveli.

You had compared Imarti's looking at the Haveli for one last time with Minnie looking around and taking everything in with a brand new set of eyes when she was given her Grah Pravesh. This Haveli has meant something incredibly meaningful to both the women: one was devastated to leave as she knew it would be her last day if she did, while the other wanted nothing more than to be welcomed into it and have a permanent place there. Now, they exist in a strange limbo where though they reside in the Haveli (one in an abstract form and the other more concrete), they don't exactly have a solid foot in the place. They simply exist like an after thought.

Babes

1. Babes & Minnie: It's not a secret that things are tense between Minnie and Babes at the moment. When she had written in her diary about us being a sum total of our memories, it was partially true. Yes, a large part of us is composed of her past and the actions we make in the present are contingent upon what has happened to us before. We make informed decisions based off of what we already know. However, we are also made up of hopes and dreams for a brighter future. If things are going bad today, then we can wish for a greater day. If she and Babes aren't on speaking terms, then that silence will have to break one day.

Minnie had also said that she sees Babes differently now. Whether it's her own POV or if it's Babes herself, she doesn't know. I think it's a bit of both. Babes is changing as she's relishing being a wife - a role that she never really got to play around with as extensively as she wished to. However, Minnie is also growing and has in fact grown a lot in the past one year. She's not going to be the same child anymore who saw things with rose tinted glasses. She's going to see the harsh realities of the world and learn how to deal with some extremely difficult people and their differing point of views. She will have to learn that not everyone thinks like her, not even her Babes. Though it was out for survival, she had begun to micromanage every little aspect of her Babes' life so that she doesn't get hurt as viciously as she did via Ashok. It was admirable at first but then it ran the risk of being toxic and unhealthy. What Minnie needs at the moment is to give herself and Babes some space and figure out what kind of relationship she wants with her going forward. Minnie can't revert back to a child since intellectually, emotionally and physically, she has grown way past that. What they can have is a more amicable relationship. One where they truly share each other's pains and comforts without holding back. If feelings get hurt, then they get hurt, but there also needs to be reassurance that there is immense love at the end of the day. There needs to be an indication that despite the differences between us, we are still in this together. I have not forgotten you and never will.

2. Babes & HS: The two separate photographs represent two different pasts coming together: HS' and Babes'.

For HS, it's easy for him to bring Imarti along since she's not alive. She lives on in his heart and in his philosophies. Moreover, both Babita and Minnie have welcomed her into their lives with open arms and have given her a tremendous amount of respect. Minnie however, is a living person. She's flesh and blood who has her own aspirations in life and is prone to get hurt when things don't necessarily go her way. HS has accepted Babita with open arms, but he hasn't really accepted Minnie. If he truly had, then he wouldn't feel so resistant to open up to her like he did once before. He wouldn't let his insecurities of losing her completely get in the way of showering her with the love and affection as he once used to.

Babita is Minnie's mother and hence shouldn't be placed in this position but there are a lot of things about Minnie that she isn't accepting either. Whether it's her being best friends with Mickey or Minnie's increased time with the Khuranas', Babita is placing a lot of restrictions on Minnie now which she necessarily didn't do before. Even if she would have still had these issues with Minnie, her approach to her has been completely wrong. She is failing to see a lot of aspects to Minnie such as the fact that she's an adult now and should be treated as such. If Babita can't tolerate being humiliated or degraded in public, then it's not right for her to do the same to Minnie either. Her Minnie is changing and is going to keep changing and this is something that Babita will have to learn how to accept.

HS

Needless to say, the most important equation missing from this scenario is her and HS'. Where do they both stand in all of this?

It was because of Minnie that the locked chest was finally opened. It was because of that open chest, that the photo of Imarti & HS could finally be hung up on the wall. It was also because of Minnie's arrest that they ever got to meet HS and get the offer of staying at his Haveli. It was because of her that HS & Babita's relationship ever got to exist in the first place.

Minnie has played an extremely vital role in HS' life and while it's not always necessary to have tangible proofs, the fact remains that HS & Minnie need one. Whether it's a verbal conversation, or something more concrete like the passing on of keys, trust, faith and love needs to be actualized for them again. Until they have this, that space in the wall has the potential of forming cracks as wide as the canyons.

You almost made me cry with this. I have been struggling to articulate my feelings but you capture EVERY SINGLE THING that was on my mind, put words to my thoughts. Of late, the disconnect has made it hard for me to write coherently about the running themes (I know we complain about execution but the themes are still there). But all that we know about HS and Minnie culminated in the current state of their relationship today.

Minnie has been the sunshine and hope in his life, without which he would have withered. HS brought into her life the perspective about the world and relationships that she had never gotten elsewhere. He made her believe in love, in people's goodness, in the longevity of bonds of the heart, which is why despite everything that happened, she still loves him. I think the family photo that Babita had referred to, finally being on the wall may be a visual reminder of what the three of them had set out to do with this marriage. Even if things don't always seem fine, the photo is a visualization of their goal, one that they must collectively work towards.

We thought that opening up his mother's room was going to give us more insights into her, but I guess for now the CVs want us to see how HS is indeed doing penance and trying to prove that he can right the wrongs of the past by looking after Babita. It's not just because he's nuts about her like a fool per se, but because he wants to give her what he couldn't give his mother and what his father couldn't give his mother either: all forms of love and protection that he has the capacity for. As you said, he doesn't want a repeat of the past and even said so before the wedding, but we see this manifest in an almost extreme form, where his single-minded focus on this goal is blinding him to his surroundings. Babita's outburst during the wedding was the nail in the coffin because he wanted to do whatever he could to make her forget her past, to ensure she had a beautiful future with him.

I sound like a broken record but his over-protectiveness is his biggest flaw/weakness and it's hurting not just Minnie and him, but also Babita. By not letting her even be in the position to face hardships/challenges, he will stifle whatever growth she can have and remove agency. That's not healthy and Babita should still be responsible for her own decisions: good or bad. He must not be afraid to point out harsh truths to her as he has always done in the past.

As you said, it's tragic that he lost out on a proper childhood as the adults' issues took precedence and here Minnie runs the risk of being in the same position. The adults she sees frequently (Khuranas) are a terrible influence on her and they do not have the maturity to handle her. NB and Lala are great for her to be around but they cannot be for her what HS is. As for HS not accepting her, I'm not really sure that it's her that he's not accepted. Rather, it's his own place in her life that he cannot come to terms with. He's too afraid because she is the mirror to his conscience, she reminds him too closely of what his childhood trauma and challenges may have been growing up. He felt unwanted by his father as a child but to have that reversed on him this way by feeling unwanted by his own child... Gosh that broke him.

I don't think that he doesn't open up to her because he doesn't accept her. I think it's because he doesn't feel he has the right to her time and affection anymore, at least not in the way he had assumed he had. He doesn't want to take her or anything about their bond for granted anymore, yet he can't let go. I feel that way about my connection to this show now.

With Babita too, he had tears in his eyes after their first fight after the wedding because he felt unwanted by her, but that misunderstanding was clarified after they had a talk. They are husband and wife - they cannot avoid each other. With Minnie, he just hasn't breached that topic. Perhaps he wants to handle one issue at a time but life doesn't work like that. Being Minnie's father might still be his dream, but to get there he must not be afraid to err, because by restricting his natural impulses he is suffocating both of them.

I am sorry, Gur. Your beautiful post deserves a much better response but I feel something's broken inside me too so I can't express myself as I used to before. I might revisit this tomorrow if I get clarity but I thank you once again, not only for prodding me to share my thoughts on this - which made me so nostalgic about such moments of symbolism we often saw in the past - but also for writing your thoughts out in so much detail.

I think he's delusional, a bit. She has yet to reach those heights of love for him that he has for her. It will come, as is obvious from her words to NB. 😆
