I don't know if it is referring to something but maybe he's disappointed that the brilliant writing and performance-oriented role he was happy about is no longer there.
Why couldn't they have had one ITV show that broke the mold and stuck to its storyline then ended properly?

I don’t see same spark his face used to have anymore.

Well, this is a throwback to Y.A.R.O. so I don't think it's related to PB. After Y.A.R.O. ended, he did a few web series but PB is the first major show that he did that got him a lot of recognition. If Y.A.R.O. hadn't ended, then he would have never done those web series and definitely not PB considering he wouldn't have been able to handle being the lead of two shows.
So in a way while it might have been disheartening at the time to have Y.A.R.O. end, it did open up the door for him to bag PB.
