Today is day 6 of the auspicious nine days of Navratri which is dedicated to goddess Kaalaratri. Navratri celebrates the nine avatars of the goddess Durga and each day is dedicated to one avatar. From the innocent and young avatar of Gauri to the married and fierce avatars, these nine days, we recall the power of different facets of being a woman. Since there are different avatars of the goddess, each of them signify a particular colour too.

Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day. This day is devoted to green colour.

Goddess Kaalaratri

Devi Katyayani is the daughter of sage Katyayani, and got her name from her father. Later on, Devi Katyayani was married to Lord Krishna. Maa Katyayani has been depicted as being seated on a lion with a sword and flower in her right hand and her left hand in the Abhaya Mudra.

Her favourite flower is red hibiscus.

Maa Kalratri - 7th Day of Navratri

The seventh day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Kaalratri who is one of the fiercest forms of Goddess Durga and is believed as the destroyer of all bad spirits, ghosts, and negative energies. Here, Kaal means time and death and Ratri stands for a night. Hence, Kaalratri is the one who removes darkness. She is revered with name Kalratri because she represents herself as death of Kaal appeared like a dark night for demons. The left two hands of the Goddess hold a thunderbolt and a scimitar and the right two hands are in the mudras of giving and protecting. Saptami Puja of Goddess Kalratri is considered as Maha puja.
