On the question of love and chastity-

How do people equate being a virgin to being in love? Isnt it hypocritical, especially in closed knit societies?

Why should the burden of being chaste be fulfilled by only the women? Dont men fall under that purview?

Yes, if people want to preserve themselves for the special one, its purely out of choice and not a compulsion.

And, it shouldn't be imposed or sought, it should only be endured out of love, for both men and women.

Which brings me to the question of innate thoughtfulness, why was Khushi and ASR's chastity equated to their love, and was a hot topic of discussion, to begin with ?

Any thoughts on this ??

Alright 'rubs hands in glee'

I dont know about the West, but in the east, most societies are patriarchal in nature. For the simple reason that men are considered to be physically stronger and hence, are deduced as bread winners.

Women, are perceived as emotional saps, who need protection, nt just biologically, but also mentally.

You maybe surprised to know that Indian Penal Code, doesnt consider 'rape' to be associated with men. And herewith, lies your answer to why women are considered as weaker, or why they maybe virgins.

However, with time and financial independence, the status and respect of women has changed and so has the notion of virginity and sex.

As for the show, well, as much as I love Arnav, I will have to give it to Khushi that even with her insecurities she was able to love Arnav, far deeply than he loved her, given that he didnt give her a benefit of doubt in Shyam fiasco.

Also, Arnav wasnt shallow to not accept Khushi with her past, if there was one, but he wanted complete loyalty and love. At the end of the day, he was an Indian bred man, who believed in coming home to a woman who was his, mind body and soul. 😉

And the makers had very deliberately portrayed it with La vs Khushi scenario.

Enough said !!

What a topic for debate.

This question will fetch you many diff answers .

If you talk about my Gen and earlier, being a virgin was like automatically drilled into our hearts by what we saw in our families. Both men and women were virgins till they married. In those times in many societies, love was a myth and marriage was mostly arranged hence there was always a stigma that being a non virgin would endanger married life, for a girl atleast. Hence more than choice it was out of fear that being a virgin was self enforced. Moreover here, preserving one's virginity to one's spouse was considered as an ultimate act of love and hence physical intimacy was out of bounds. There would be a fear in girl's mind whether her boyfriend is out to only be physical with her ir he has any intentions of marriage.

The times gave changed now. Nowadays both girls and boys have realised that they are more free to Express their preferences. And the myth of 'remaining pure for your spouse's doesn't exist anymore. Unlike earlier times science has taken precedence over emotions and physical needs over emotional ones.

So to cut things short, if your Khufhi in Wedded II is an Indian girl if this gen, a confident self made person, I wouldn't out ut past her to have lost her virginity to someone as part of growing up and being curious and treating physical intimacy as a normal facet of life till she meets the virgin Arnav who changes her entire perception about the same. Maybe Arnav has remained virgin out of choice as intimacy, for him is an emotional act too rather than being a plain physical one.

In closed societies it is un-thought of even now to think that one could just change partners if not very often without having long lasting emotional feelings.

The problem in any case arises when one becomes attached to the other but the other wants to move on.

Whichever society it is, afterall every person has a heart that breaks, right?

Even the girls that wear chote kapde and move around with boys also are pained when their Dil is trampled by the boy whom she cant live without.

In a nutshell yes in some societies virginity is still equated with love and marriage and in some it is not

Arre kahaan P Ji

Barring the high class, the middle class and low class in india is still regressive as it can be.

Girls are a burden and men are the name bearers. Look at the skewed sex ratio in the country and the rate of female foeticide 😒

From centuries, women were made to uphold the values (dictated by some people at that time) and men were made to take care of the family. As a bread winner he was given lot of liberties (or may be he has taken) and woman still remained the upholder of values.

There were zero or very less incidents where a woman remarried after her partner's death compared to a man who has remarried after his partner's death. And a man always preferred a virgin to remarry.

While having relationships, if woman gets pregnant, it has repercussions on the woman. No such problems for a man. All these things made the women to remain virgin until she gets married.

This has changed over the years. I think financial independence made a lot difference. Women started taking the same liberties which were forbidden for them over the years.

That is why Liz taylor's multple marriages became a talk of the town, but no one talks about Martin Scorsese or Larry King or other men who married multiple times in the same era.

In a changed society, men and women are equal. We should not measure chastity with love or expect the girl to remain virgin until she gets married. There are no such rules or laws. It is up to the individual.

Cheers......

Oh my, Raji ji

Our thoughts are similar. 👏

I chose Withered simply based on the fact that I could not see how Khushi felt in Wedded II's prologue. I know it will be narrated in the future chapters and I know I will love Wedded II as much as I have loved Wedded I or WA or as much as I am loving Withered.

Cheers.........

Wedded I was always about Arnav Singh and his relationship with Khushi and how she became an equal to him.

Hence, the prologue was in tandem with Season 1.
