I think she's been very versatile before her stints with SLB - her last two roles in her SLB films have felt the same to me - Mastani and Padmavati. She sounded/acted the same and her performance in both was such a disappointment to me when I know she can act well. That's just my opinion ofc and you're entitled to yours.

SLB wasted her after Ram Leela..he didn't give her much to work with in BM (Ranveer & Priyanka got the best scenes and more nuances to their characters) and certainly not in Padmavaat where the movie should have been named Khiliji..she got the title but barely any screentime and a boring af character.

I think Chhapaak will have her show more of her acting skills again

I completely agree. Leela's role had so much depth and nuances to it and Deepika nailed it. The madness, the hatred, the consuming sense of betrayal and underneath it all such a deep and intoxicating concoction of love and pain. I know people seek Ranveer in the scene where they confront each other in front of the elders after taking their seats as the rightful leaders of their families, but Deepika was so effective in that role.

Bajirao Mastani was so wasted on Deepika, because Priyanka overshadowed her so incredibly. Priyanka's nuances, her expressions, the subtle shift in her eyes really made her compelling and what should have been scenes where the audience was clearly supposed to focus on Deepika, we were compelled instead to focus on Priyanka.

And again agreed, I do believe Chhapaak will allow Deepika to come back into the parts of herself that she unfolded into Leela, which I'm very excited to see.
