I don't get why HS jumped to that conversation though. There was so much that transpired in between then. How can he think that Minnie doesn't want him around as a father? And okay, father might still be a question mark, but at least as a father figure?
I feel like his pain overpowered his judgment.
He didn't jump to it. To Minnie and Babita it might have seemed sudden, but I'd always seen his insecurities regarding Minnie. They were there in his words and his gestures, in the angst in his eyes the day he found out they were moving house but felt powerless to stop her, and the way in which he rocked Minnie back and forth like a little child in his embrace after the proposal, in fact the moment he ran straight to his Veer Balika after Babita's indirect proposal in order to formally propose to Babita and by extension ensure Minnie would not leave him.
The one relationship he had proudly and wholeheartedly made his own in his heart, but could not lay claim to had filled him much hope and sunshine and dreams for their bright future. At this point, ironically he is much more sure of Babita staying in his life than Minnie because in his eyes she has no reason to. I also think the step father label went like a lance through his heart. I know Babita defended him and told the Khuranas off, but it was too late.
It really is ironic, that the man who had encouraged mother-daughter to fly was now fluttering on the ground like a bird whose wings had just been clipped, and who could only look up from the ground as his two companions soared in the sky, potentially flying further and further away with no hope of him catching up.
I am glad his pain did overpower his judgement, if that was indeed what was going on in his mind. Aur kitna sahega banda? He will make amends in future but for now he's not going to think straight if his pain continues to cloud his judgement.
I have a feeling that if Minnie decides to stay with the Khuranas or leave her parents, it would destroy HS.
