Okay no I'm not going to shut up about this I should be asleep but I drank hot chocolate before bed, mistakes have been made, a sugar high is upon me, and the look in his eyes makes me absolutely feral.

But god look at the way he's holding her, the way he's looking into her. There's a soft question in his eyes, are you okay, and there's reassurance too I'm right here. And he knows she wants nothing from him, he knows that his presence isn't entirely welcome, and she's angry and in pain but god he can't help himself. She's breaking apart and he's holding her together. Despite himself, he wants to be able to hold her up when she feels like she can't. He married her. He put her before any false vows and he's held her through it all. He took the solemnity of their union seriously, and he's been uplifting her, respecting her and teaching her how to do the same for herself. It doesn't matter right now if she can't see it, because she will. The man who lurks in the darkness, overshadowed by the raging sun she seems to be blinded by, is the man who will help her out of her own shadows. He already is. And for the briefest moment, she lets herself fall into his hold, and that is just enough for them both.

I know Nikki hasn't gif'd the rest of the sequence yet. But this first part here, when she pushes away from him, is so full of pain and desperation. And it's killing him, it's killing him. Look at the look in his eyes in that last gif, he's hurt not because she's disgusted by his touch or she's pulled away from him, but because he's the reason she's in such indescribable pain. His eyes look glazed over and he looks his jaw, tightening the lines of his mouth in an effort to not say anything she may not want to hear. BUt the part in between those gifs, where she bends, her hands holding onto him and then pushing him away again. That's not the hold of someone who's only full of anger, she's also seeking solace in him, comfort. She would never ever push him away like that, cling to him like that where her whole body weight is leaning into him, if she weren't seeking for something from him. She's laid her entire heart bare to him, he is literally the only person in the entire world who knows all of her secrets, who else could she possibly go to? Yes he's the source of her hurt but he knows her heart like no one else does, and she seeks him to be angry but also to find some semblance of support. When she pulls away and sobs, there's point where he tries to close the distance between them. He takes a step forward and then immediately stops because he sees the pain on her face, and he takes a visibly deep sigh. It shakes his entire upper body, because he's thinking I've done this to her.

If you watch this scene without the dialogues and just purely the stripped away context: this is her husband and he's nearly (albeit accidentally) killed the love of her life, the pain and the push and pull from her does make sense. Just purely watching this from a perspective as someone who hasn't heard or seen the scene, except for an edit without dialogues and gifs. She might push him away, but that part where she clings to him and pulls him back in speaks volumes. Because it's the subsequent part where he feels confident enough to take a step towards her. He only stops because of the stricken look on her face, it's enough for him to pull back but when he takes a step towards her, notice in that scene that she doesn't. She just stands and cries.
