I did find Mr B’s sudden mellowing towards the end a surprise but I get that he was going to forgive her sometime.

Well he was not totally unaffected by her efforts, so his mellowing down was not exactly sudden... But the major part of it happened because she voiced out that she trusts him and that why she made the mistake...
