I'm not asking your top 10 favourite films. But what are the films that you think are loved by audience the most or have got awards. Do you think box office is everything, or awards also matter? Does movie passing the test of time matters? Today's generation will not like Mother India or Mughal-E-Azam. Still they are classics. In my personal opinion its a mix of everything. So this is my top 10 all time best films :

1. Sholay (No need of mentioning the reason. Biggest hit of Indian cinema)

2. Mother India (ATBB and an Oscar nominee, so it pleased both Indians and Americans)

3. Mughal-E-Azam (Second biggest hit of Bollywood)

4. Hum Aapke Hain Koun (Fourth biggest hit in Bollywood, had big influence in pop culture)

5. Kismet (First Blockbuster of Indian cinema)

6. Dilwale Dulhaniya Let Jayenge (ATBB, influenced many films and is also loved by today's generation)

7. 3 Idiots (Modern day classic. Not a big hit compared to above films and even PK and Dangal, still had an influence in pop culture)

8. Salaam Bombay (Nominated for Oscar and awarded at Cannes)

9. Lagaan( Nominated at Oscar)

10. Neecha Nagar (Only film to get best film award at Cannes)

What is your criteria when you rank top 10 best films? Again, I'm not asking your favourite films, but the films which are respected, whether its by audience, critics, or award juries.

Only Bollywood film to win Cannes Best Film award, which is the biggest film festival.

Yeah I just googled about it and was surprised to know that Kamini Kaushal was the heroine...Never knew her to be such an accomplished artist! 👏

BW has made thousands of movies, it's very difficult to pick too 10, nearly impossible. I don't think I have watched even 10% of the movies BW has produced till now. 10% is still a big proportion, I must not have watched even 5% honestly.

I'm not asking your personal preference. You can make a list even if you haven't watched the film. My question is what will be your criteria when someone asks you to make a list of best films in history of Bollywood. That criteria can be box office, awards or critic reviews.

This is weird. Best is subjective but if I had to name the ten most iconic Bollywood movies, it would be similar to your list. Like how Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, etc. are to Hollywood, I'd suppose:

- Awaara

- Pyaasa

- Mother India

- Madhumati

- Mughal-E-Azam

- Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam

- Guide

- Anand

- Sholay

- Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Being selected by a European film body does not equal "accomplishment" to me as much as others. She won a Filmfare Award - that to me is more commendable. Bollywood and it's fans need to get over the whole "Oscars/Hollywood" acceptance/appreciation mode already. If they nominate one of our films, it should be celebrated but not hailed as something validating.

The film Neecha Nagar is not even a classic in our cinematic history - it's random selection in France is just that - random.

But Filmfare and National awards are given to alot of Bollywood films. Nomination at Oscar or winning award at Cannes is a rare feat, so it has more value according to me.
