Do you think Bollywood songs have declined in quality?

I have been listening to lots of 90's-early 2000's songs and I think those were really better. These days the focus is too much on party songs with cheap lyrics (see crap like "the hook up song" and dozens more like it).

At least Arijit singh is going strong and delivering more classic songs. I do miss the likes of Kumar, Udit, Sonu, Abhijeet, Alka etc.

Agree with you. The songs are now just dance/party/hook-up numbers and have less variety. Liked the Pal song in Jalebi last year, but most osngs lack that ethereal quality which the 90's and early 2000's had. I think the lack of good love stories is also to blame. Kabir Singh had good music but that was an exception.

regressing since 60s. 90s are overrated because it was our childhood.

I feel like a lot of Bollywood's music even the good numbers were completely copied and now people are a bit scared to copy. Pritam can't produce hit numbers anymore because he doesn't want a plagiarism scandal. So, we're only getting remixes now days.

It's because nowadays, forget plagiarism, music directors are not even trying and just making stupid remakes. Like STOP. After Mere Rashqe Qamar and Dilbar, they just started this stupid remake cycle. When there is an original like Dil Diyan Gallan or Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass title song, it's good. But for every original song, we get 5 remakes or plagiarized songs.

Yes the song's these days are so forgettable.

I really miss good singer's like Sonu, Shaan, Udit, Alka, kumar sanu. These days we are stuck with daru vodka songs, Badshah, honey Singh, neha Kakkar, tulsi and dhvani auto tune. 🙁

I wish the 90's composer's should get work. Recently I came across this song by nadeem-shravan. I feel they are still capable of giving good music.

I agree. The quality of music along with lyrics has declined. With the exception of Arijit, I don't even like any singer these days. So much autotune that a crap singer sounds like a singing genius. Also, for the past few years, you are served ohhh so crappy lyrics in the name of art. I still can't get over tera pyaar pyaar hookah bar, English mein kende booty-shootyP Punjabivich Tooh! and Munni badnaam hui to name a few. 🤢

And this remake ka trend is getting on my nerves. It's like people have no talent left to compose something new so they are recycling and serving the old maal with new packaging.

Agree. Music directors quality is the same as it ever was. In the past they stole melodies, Bollywoodized them, and passed them off as their own just like directors stole stories. They all got away with it because the people they stole from weren’t paying attention. Now people outside BW are paying attention and music directors can’t get away with stealing music anymore. As always producers are too cheap to pay for licensing music so they are left with what these guys actually write or remixes “written” long ago.

Problem is the current generation prefers the cheap "daru vodka" type of songs so the 90's composers are mostly seen as outdated.
