Lata Mangeshkar upset with Ranu Mondal? Says Short-term attention won’t last!

The Nightingale of India - Lata Mangeshkar finally broke her silence about Internet sensation Ranu Mondal who sang her song 'Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai'...

Recently, the Internet has witnessed a huge uproar as Ranu Mondal sang Lata Mangeshkar’s iconic song ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai' from the film Shor (1972). Mondal’s voice instantly grabbed attention and amassed nationwide recognition appeared in several reality shows. She also got a makeover and was roped by Himesh Reshammiya to lend her voice in his upcoming film, Happy Hardy and Heer.

Meanwhile, Lata Mangeshkar was totally silent about the whole episode. During her interaction with IANS, the legendary singer was asked about Ranu, and she did express her happiness but with reservations.

Agar mere naam aur kaam se kissiko bhala hota hai toh main apne-aap ko khush-kismat samajhti hoon

(If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate).

- Lata Mangeshkar

She further added, "But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab’s, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last."

Lata Ji further spoke about singing talents on reality shows. She explained, "So many children sing my songs so beautifully. But how many of them are remembered after the first flush of success? I only know of Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal."

The 89-year-old singer, explained her opinion about the same as she gave an example of her and singer Asha Bhosle. She said, said, "If Asha (Bhosle) had not insisted on singing in her own style she would have remained in my shadow forever. She is the biggest example of how far individuality can take one’s talent to."

Meanwhile, there have been several reports of Salman Khan offering Ranu Mondal a 50-lakh home and a chance to sing in Dabangg 3. However, the superstar has denied all rumours about the same.

If we look at singers like Suman Kalyanpuri, Shardha, Momtaz Begum, Hemlatha, Anuradha Paudwal, about all these singers, Lata used to call them her imitators. Shreya Ghoshal singing style comes quite close to Anuradha Paudwal, but we can't call her as imitator. Anuradha was the only one who raised her voice against Lata for putting such imitator blames on female singers and indulging in monopoly, that led many music directors to avoid her so they didn't have to face the wrath of Lata.

Lata is the beginning, worked with many great composers from close for more than 40 years and her voice is just an inspiration for other singers to develop on their own, but the one who gets more and more new songs with good music will become hit among the masses.

Infact, for her very first song Aayega aane wala, Lata was made to sing in Shamshad begam style by composers.

please read the whole interview, she says its good that they are singing all these great songs, but to have a successful career they need to create their own style........ I think that is a great advice to any artist....... people who have unique talent get more success compared to someone who imitates legends......

Finally..

Sick and tired of this frenzy around Ranu.

Truly speaking there are better singers than her singing in the local trains of West Bengal and also Mumbai (I have traveled in both)

She just got lucky with the video being viral.

Let's wait and watch , if she can sustain in the industry.

Please dont come at me but I cant stand Lata's thin and screechy voice. She's ruined so many songs for me personally, others call her "Saraswati maa"...🤢

People should read the whole interview instead of bashing Lata ji reading the headline. What she said is absolutely true.. & infact a great advise to aspiring singers.

Without individuality, no one can become popular.

Look beyond the headline. Lata is just telling aspiring singers to create their own mark and identity.

Lata has a tendency to be egotistic. She has been hostile to newcomers. But in this case, she is giving real sage advice.

I'll end this post by telling you a joke.

Charlie Chaplin was at a dinner party. He put on a great show by mimicking various figures. He ended the show by belting out a beautiful aria. Everyone was stunned. They went up and congratulated him for his beautiful singing voice. Charlie Chaplin was very confused though. He looked at everyone with a dead set expression and said "That was my Pavoratti impression."
