What I find most curious are desis who have liberal US politics but tend to be strongly pro Modi at home.
That's not surprising at all. Most people choose what's best for themselves and not what has integrity. In the US, it makes sense to to align with liberals because Democratic policies support immigrants and minorities which is what they are in America. They support Modi and Hindu nationalism in India because they are the majority there and want to keep their power for when they visit or if they ever decide to go back. Most people are hypocritical because it's best for themselves.
However, nowadays I see many Desis are turning Republican because they are getting richer and their policies are most suitable for business owners and for tax relief. They're also delusional and start equating themselves with white people and have problems with other minorities like blacks and Hispanics who they see as people on welfare or those who commit crimes. The delusions of their own superiority run deep and they don't realize that white people will never consider them one of their own and wouldn't hesitate to turn against Indians if they needed to.
