Care to list the countries where they got banned?

India did ban LT of C book. I think some Muslim countries, too, as well as Mexico and Argentina. But which christian majority country banned the rest? 😊

As far as uncoolness is concerned, I've had Indian-American friends who've said Mary is a wh*re in a catholic hospital with nothing happening. I doubt the scenario would've been the same in India. I wouldn't even call it coolness factor. More like freedom of speech and what you say saying more about you than the topic under discussion.

Cross in urine art exhibit: Well this one is still is pissing(pun.intended) Christains around the world.

The Last Temptation of Christ : banned in Philippines and Singapore, while a theatre was burned in Paris. And still condemned by Chruch. While there were protests in US too, resulting in some theaters not screening it.

The Canterbury Tales was a banned book/restricted book due to Comstock 1873.

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, this one I am sorry, I mistook with Life of Brain.

The Magdalene Sisters: There were protests to ban it in US, but didn't happened. While in Vatican it was.

I don't classify calling any religious figure names cool. I don't like Christains around me mocking other religions, I find that uncool.

Philippines is a Christian majority country. Singapore is not. The theatre burning of course was a crime. Otherwise, the countries which banned it were mainly muslim or atheist.

Condemned by church doesn't mean a thing. Church also has freedom of speech. It's like saying Hindu priests have no right to speak about something they find offensive. They can. Where the line should be drawn in banning. No religious person should have the right to ban anything outside the boundaries of the religion.

Having said that, saying something was banned in Vatican is like saying it was banned at the temple in Kashi. Vatican is an independent country, but it is comprised solely of the church. The borders of Vatican are the 4 walls of the church (metaphorically). Actually, I dont know if they even have a movie theater 😂

While Canterbury Tales is a book, I was talking about the movie. Talking about a book ban in 19th C is false equivalence when comparing to bans in 20th and 21st Cs.

Protests again are freedom of speech. Not like threatening to behead the actress or burning a school bus or shooting cartoonists. Except for the few protestors against said movies, most ignore it and move on. No states banned said movies.

PS. Cross in urine again says more about the artist than anything else. Is he going to change what Jesus Christ was? Hardly.

For the most part these movies were not banned in the West

There were protests but no violent protests, there are exceptions like the Saint Micheal Cinema incident in Paris where a Catholic group tried to set fire to the theatre and burned several people when they were showing Last Temptation of Christ movie. ( Greece banned it for several yrs)

Also banned in Savannah, Georgia for six weeks

Life of Brian was banned for a few yrs in some places in the West - it might have been the most banned movie for religious reasons

But never heard of death sentence being issued on the makers and the makers going into hiding and living in fear for the rest of their lives..

firstly, I think you are mistaking it with me trying to saying all Hindus are cool and all Christians not. There are many times, many religion organisation do that for two minutes of fame.

You asked me where they were banned, I gave you examples of where they were banned.

Now if we are comparing degree of banning(although Hindu critique movies are also hardly banned in India, Padmavat isn't a Hinduism critique movie) , than we are reducing it to the my XYZ is still better than XYZ.

well I think mostly it is because of the way of preachings , at least here in my town.

I have been to some sessions(reason being I was vella, and my Christain friend wanted me to go there with him, so he can tell his parents he came with me, although his real plan was obviously seeing a girl lol), and most of the times they refer to Hinduism customs as some kind of ill practice.

They also do the fear mongering that Aadhar card is a Hinduism ploy to destroy Christians by introducing the devil numbers in ppeople's life via Aadhae card. Although this one I didn't heard myself, but my friend who is a Christian said this is done as his wife redused to come during Aadhar card enrolling in our office.
