From the whole update, my favourite part was about the beautiful description about Fall. It was more incredible as you wonderfully drew comparisons and it enlightened us with more knowledge about Mr. A as a person. And, he has found a companion somewhere else. But, his baby is the only part which makes me anxious!
Why did Naina look happy in the wedding picture? That's an another mystery.
For a second, I had thought 'This is it', they are going to TALK but no, wrong things said at the wrong time! Now, the ending which has left me craving for more. I am eagerly waiting for the next!
Take care, Sur Di! π€
Love, Shreya

Part 33: A Day to Remember
With leaden steps, Sameer plopped down the same musty old stairs heβd ascended earlier with anticipation and hope brimming in his heart. He reached the landing and stay put, his brain in a fuzz, unsure of what lay ahead.
Nothing else seemed to have changed. The sparrows were still chirping, flapping around to get to their nests before night fell. A group of housewives were engrossed in an animated discussion about the new heartthrob, Hrithik Roshanβs knockout looks in his latest release. A bunch of kids playing across the street were yelling aloud and laughing at the top of their lungs for seemingly no sane reason.
Ironically, he deduced, all of them- every single one of them, were unaware of the pain that was burgeoning in his heart. There was laughter and cheer and frolic in the air, yet his being felt strangely desolate, numb, sapped of all happiness, all warmth. He shivered and then wrapped his arms around himself. And then reality seeped through him.
Quietly, almost mechanically, he unlocked the door of his Lancer and sped off.
Fifteen minutes past eleven in the night, found Sameer in a bar- one of his favorites in the city. In a dimly lit corner, one of the waiters struggled to stifle a yawn. At the other end, the cash register ringed as the owner counted his earnings for the day. Sameer sat motionless, staring avidly at the glass of Vodka- translucent, clear, so unlike his own life. Heβd come there to drown his misery in alcohol but tonight, even that failed to dampen the morbid pain in his heart. It was all too bleak, too hopeless.
What had he been thinking? Stopping dangerously on a highway, abandoning his meeting, rushing over to her place to confess his love for her- to a married woman? He was darn lucky A wasnβt around. What level of idiocy had he been harbouring all this while? His love-struck heart had woven an absurd fantasy about Naina falling for him- again! She had not had feelings for him when they were together 24x7, literally. So why would she have a sudden change of heart? Of all things, she was now married to a wonderful man and had a beautiful daughter. Heβd grossly misread the situation. Her concerns hadnβt been about her wedded life, but about Diyaβs health and her financial mess. Sameer had not been in the picture- not then, not now.
The bubble had been pricked.
His mind pointed resignedly, βI told you soβ, while his poor, stupid heart continued its subdued protests.
Sameer took a sip from the glass as snippets of the past continued to swarm up to the fore- memories of times well spent. He brushed a lone tear from his eyes. He missed her, missed her terribly and couldnβt do anything about it. Why couldnβt they have landed together forever?
Perhapsβ¦.
And his mind delved into that evening at Juhu, back in their second year.
Naina was sitting besides him, staring out at the expanse of the sea, illuminated with a fiery glow against the round setting sun. The waves gushed and crashed to the shore in a surreal periodic motion. The crowds had mostly dispersed lending the ambience a lazy serenity.
Earlier that day, Professor Mishra had reprimanded Naina for spending too much time with Sameer, suggesting that getting involved or βtoo friendlyβ as heβd put it, with a boy, especially one whoβs careless and irresponsible like Sameer, could cause her to lose focus and hamper her academics. It was another thing that Naina had turned a deaf ear to the advice and later ended up topping her year and by helping him with studies, ensured that Sameer fared much better than was expected from him. Prof. Mishra had to eat his own words later and had apologized to them both post the results.
Sameer turned to her and smiled. Then he dug his index finger in the slippery sand and etched out her name, βNAINAβ. Naina grinned and reciprocated by carving out his name in the sand below hers, βSAMEERβ. For a few moments, both of them stared at their names etched together, Naina wondering if her name would ever be attached to his for real. And Sameer musing how by strange chance, life had brought them together- first as ardent foes and then as the closest of friends one could ever have.
Their reveries suffered an interruption when a huge wave crashed near them and wiped away their names.
βAb samandar ko bhi hamare sath rehne se problem hai?β Sameer sulked.
But Nainaβs face had lit up. βNahiβ¦ekdum ultaβ¦tumhe pata hai Sameerβ¦kehte hain ki agar samandar kisi do logon ka naam saath mein apne me samaata hai naβ¦to wo log zindagi bhar saath rehte hain!β
There was a momentary silence. Sameer fiddled with a small pebble nearby and flung it deep into the sea. βMain nahi mantaβ¦yeh sab bakwas hai!β
Naina didnβt respond. He turned and saw that heβd upset her. In order to mellow her down, he added, βpata hai Nainaβ¦main jiske bhi kareeb aata hun na, wo sab mujhe chod jaate hain. Toh mera aisi baaton mein vishwas nahi hai.β
βAisa bhi to ho sakta hai na Sameer ki har baar galti unki na ho?β she asked earnestly.
Sameer turned to her and blinked. βMatlab?β
Naina picked up a sea shell and began dawdling with it. βMatlab ki Sameerβ¦kayi baar tum itne gusse mein baat karte ho ki kisi ka bhi dil dukh jayeβ¦aisa bhi to ho sakta hai na kabhi tumhari mummy ne tumse baat karne ki koshish ki hoβ¦aur tumne unhe mauka hi na diya hoβ¦insaan ko kabhi kabhi kisi ki choti badi galtiyaan bhulani padti hainβ¦aur aage chalna padta haiβ¦β.
Sameer listened to her in silence and then asked, βtumse bhi kharab se bolta hun na kitni baar?β
Naina pursed her lips ruefully.
βTum mujhe kabhi mere gusse ki wajah se chod ke to nahi jaogi na?β
βTumhe gusse pe kaabu rakhna seekhna hoga Sameer. Main maanti hun tumne bahot saha hai, lekin agar tum sabse aise hi bartav karoge to kahin hamesha akele na reh jao. Tum mujhse bhi khafa ho jaate ho, kayi baar choti choti baaton peβ¦lekin fir mujhe manane aate ho, kyunki tumhe tumhari galti ka ehsaas hota hai. Tum dil ke bure nahi ho Sameer, par bahot impulsive hoβ¦socho agar kisi din tum maafi maangne na aayeβ¦ya der ho gayi tohβ¦aur jispe tum gussa the wo tumse door chala jaye toh? Fir bhi tum dusron ko dosh doge?β
Sameer threw another pebble out into the sea and sat pondering over her words.
βEk baar mummy ko phone to karke dekhoβ¦?β she uttered hopefully.
Sameer nodded.
Naina noticed his melancholy mood. She knew sheβd driven her point. Sometimes, to help bring out the good things in people, one had to take the route which troubled them. Thinking it had been enough for the day, she tried to cheer him up, βacha ab aise nautanki wala muh mat banaoβ¦itni kharab shakal ke sath main to kya koi bhi nahi rahegaβ¦!β
Sameer smiled at her softly, knowing fully well she was trying to lighten his mood. And he also knew that she was the only girl heβd met who could do so in a matter of seconds.
He grinned, despite himself . βKyun? Rahengi naβ¦Hema, Rekha, Jaya aur Sushma,β he crowed the Nirma jingle and added her name, βaur Nainaβ¦! Ab to samandar ne keh diyaβ¦kahan jaogi bachke?β.
βHayee meri qismat!β Naina flung her hands dramatically, indicating despair.
βNautanki kahin kiβ¦pata hai, main kabhi soch bhi nahi sakta tha ki teacher ki chamchi, padhaku si, seedhi saadi Naina itni masti karti hogiβ¦ajeeb hai na har insaan ke kirdaar ke anek pehlu hote hainβ¦jo hum kabhi jaan hi nahi paate!β
Naina nodded, smiling reminiscently. βAur tum itne khadus, akdu, gussail, badtameez hone ke saath saath dil ke itne ache, itne dariyadil, itna khayal rakhne wale hogeβ¦yeh main bhi nahi jaan paati!β
He cocked his brows. βTaareef kar rahi ho ya insult?β
βJo tum kar rahe theβ¦dono!β she winked.
Chuckling, Sameer got up and brushed the back of his jeans and held out his hand for Naina. βAb chaleinβ¦chapter samjha do aaj kaβ¦varna Mishra sir fir bolenge, βNaina, you mustnβt let boys like Sameer distract you from academics. You have a brilliant future ahead. And boys like him, khud to life mein kuch karte hain nahi, dusron ka future bhi spoil kar dete hain!β Sameer mimicked Prof. Mishraβs accented voice.
βWo khadus hi hainβ¦pata nahi kya problem hai unko tumse!β
βWahi hogi jo safari suitβ¦,β he checked his tongue as Naina raised her eyes, βmera matlab librarianβ¦,β he corrected again seeing her glare, βmatlab papa tumhareβ¦unko thiβ¦,β and then added teasingly, βjudwa bhai to nahi na unka koiβ¦kumbh ke mele mein bichda hua?β
βSameerβ¦!β Naina chased him as he broke into a run teasing her more.
As per Nainaβs advice, heβd tried calling his mother the next day, but had received a curt response that she was busy in a conference. He did not receive a call back from her for at least two weeks since then. Though he now knew that just in the midst of the conference where she was accompanying her husband, sheβd been taken seriously ill for a gynaecological issue and hadnβt wished to worry Sameer, who was so far away, dealing with so many demons of his own. That had made him feel a bit ashamed of himself later, but that time, heβd innardly cursed himself for taking the initiative and all the pep talk that Naina had given him about keeping his cool had gone down the drain.
Then perhaps it had been his fault! Never had he learnt to tame his anger. And Naina too might have reached her tipping point. Maybe that is why it was easy for her to love Arvind and to happily marry him.
He sighed, βif only heβd realized his love sooner. If only heβd gone straight to her hostel to apologize that evening. If only heβd mastered his emotionsβ¦.β.
Sameerβs head flung in despair, brimming with the many βif onlysβ. The waiter serving him cleared his throat, and uttered politely. βSirβ¦bar close hone ka time ho gaya hai!β
Sameer looked up at him, bleary-eyed. Vodka had started to show its effect, dimming his senses. Sameer nodded at the waiter, who produced the bill. Trying to focus on the piece of paper, Sameer fished out his wallet and extracted two crisp notes, which he placed in the maroon folder with the bill. The waiter bowed and scurried off to the owner for change. By the time he got back, he was met with an empty chair and a glass of Vodka, lying half-filled upon the wooden table.
The wall clock chimed 1 am as the main door of the house creaked open.
βSameerβ¦kahan reh gaya tha tu beta?β Vishakha, apparently waiting for him to come home, called out through the dark.
Sameer couldnβt muster enough energy to respond. He entered, one hand clutching the jacket over his shoulders.
βSameer 1 baj raha hai raat ka betaβ¦tu kahan tha? Main paani peene ke liye uthi to dekha tu kamre mein nahi haiβ¦har jagah dekhaβ¦office mein phone kiyaβ¦beta bata ke jaana chahiye naβ¦,β she started.
Sameer didnβt say anything as he walked slowly towards her, lost in thought.
βSameer?β Vishakhaβs worry was evident upon her face.
Sameer looked up, still in a daze, trying to put his mind in order.
βSameerβ¦kya hua haiβ¦?β She sniffed near his mouth, βtune fir se pi haiβ¦kitni pi hai..?β
βZyada nahi piβ¦,β he answered solemnly.
βSameer kya hua hai? Tu bahot disturbed hai! Sameerβ¦?β Vishakha shook him. But it was as if nothing was affecting him. She pulled her son into a hug and made him sit down.
Despite having being hostile towards his mother for as long as he could recall, this was the first time in years that sheβd hugged him. Sheβd been at fault on many occasions, but then there had been times when heβd misunderstood her completely- like the incidence of that telephone call. Yet, there is something in a motherβs embrace, some strange warmth that breaks oneβs defenses down, no matter how unfit the woman has been as a mother to you. The same happened to Sameer. He clung to her, and then broke down into sobs, clutching her hard as he wept. Vishakha, overcome by this sudden and rare display of vulnerability from Sameer, held onto him tighter, stroked his hair and patted his back to calm him. They stayed like this for a while, and Vishakha waited for Sameer to be able to pour his heart out to her.
βKya hua mera bacchaβ¦tu itna brave hoke ro raha hai?β Vishakha consoled him, wiping the tears from his eyes.
βMujhe nafrat hone lagi hai khudseβ¦main kyun hun aisa?β
βTu bahot acha hai betaβ¦kya kharabi hai tujhmein?β
βMain aur mera gussaβ¦chahe mujhe laakh gham mile lekin maine kabhi unka saamna karna nahi seekhaβ¦hamesha dusrun ko blame karta rahaβ¦aur ab main akela hunβ¦β.
βSameerβ¦kaisi behki behki baatein kar raha hai tuβ¦tera gussa hona natural tha..aur tu akela kaise hai? Main hoon tere sath, hum sab hain!β
He shook his head. βNahiβ¦Meri qismat mein rona hi to likha haiβ¦.itna bada hoke bhi aaj main ro hi raha hunβ¦mummy kya paap kiya hai maine jo bhagwan mujhe khushi nahi dena chahtaβ¦na bachpan mein kabhi maa ka pyaar milaβ¦naa baap kaβ¦fir wo miliβ¦aur use bhi maine kho diyaβ¦koi kab tak sahega mummaβ¦kab takβ¦aur agar mujhe pyaar dena hi nahi thaβ¦to kyun laaye the use meri zindagi meinβ¦aur jab main apne zakhm sehkarβ¦aage badhne ki fir koshish karne lagta toh firseβ¦,β he held his tongue suddenly.
βFirse kya?β
βFirse kuch aisa hota haiβ¦ki wo sab beeti yaadein waapis aa jati hain! Kyun mumma kyunβ¦main thak chuka hun ab is zindagi seβ¦kahin door chala jaana chahta hunβ¦,β Sameer sobbed as his tears soaked his motherβs saree.
βBas betaβ¦rote nahiβ¦lekin aisa hua kya? Bta mujhe,β she enquired. βKahin wo Naina to nahi mili tujhe? Wapis tere piche to nahi pad gayi?β
βPiche to main tha mummaβ¦wo nahiβ¦ab ehsaas hota hai!β
βBetaβ¦yeh kaisi baatein kar raha hai tu? Mujhe bataβ¦mera dil baitha jaa raha hai!β
Sameer tried to fumble through his numbed brain for a cover-up. If his mother got to know about Naina reappearing in his life and on top of that, working with him, he could sense that her suddenly flared up maternal instincts might lead her to break their legal agreement. Though it might be a good way forward for him, it would end up smashing Nainaβs dreams, crumble her financial condition and most of all, Diya would feel the brunt of it.
No! That was out of the question.
βWo Munna Pandit ne batayaβ¦unhe pata chalaβ¦wo India aayi haiβ¦tohβ¦basβ¦,β he trailed off.
Sameer cut her off, βMom, please! Aap kya boli jaa rahi ho? Jo bhi haiβ¦jaisi bhi haiβ¦Naina vaisi nahi haiβ¦plus family hai uskiβ¦husband hai, bacchi haiβ¦β.
βToh ho! Hamein kya? Aur tujhe kaise pata yeh sab? Kahan hai wo? Delhi mein? Tu mila hai usse?β
βMunna Pandit ne bataya mom aur kaise?β
This calmed Vishakha down and she started mumbling, βpata nahi in donon ko bhi kab akal aayegiβ¦wo aayi hai to aane doβ¦tujhe kyun bata rahe hain! Acha bhala bhul raha tha useβ¦β
Sameer didnβt have the heart to tell his mother that heβd never forgotten her.
Vishakha pulled Sameer closer to her and continued to placate him, her mind on something else. Finally choosing her words carefully, she tipped his face up and said, βbeta main jaanti hun zindagi tere liye bahot mushkil rahi thiβ¦tune sabse thokar khayi haiβ¦apni sagi maa se bhiβ¦main teri gunehgaar hunβ¦par yakeen kar meraβ¦main tujhe ab aur rota hua nahi dekhna chahtiβ¦khush dekhna chahti hunβ¦isliye bhul jaa useβ¦bhul jaa Naina ko betaβ¦wo apni zinagi mein khush haiβ¦uski zindagi mein tere liye ab koi jagah nahi haiβ¦lekin teri puri zindagi padi hai tere aageβ¦saari umar maa-baap, dost to nahi reh sakte saath meinβ¦dekh Munna aur Pandit koβ¦wo bhi tere kitne ache dost hain lekin ab apne parivaaron meinβ¦apni zimmedariyon mein uljhe hainβ¦aur tu akela pad raha haiβ¦har pal to koi bhi dost saath nahi reh sakta na betaβ¦yahi pe toh ek humsafar ki zarurat hoti hai insaan koβ¦tujhe kisi se pyaar nahi karna naβ¦mat karnaβ¦lekin beta ek jeevan saathi to chahiye hota hai zindagi bitane ke liyeβ¦jo aapke sukh dukh mein aapke saath hoβ¦aur kuch na sahi to kamse kam ek dost to hoβ¦?β
Sameer stilled, listening to her. He sniffed and then looked up into his motherβs pleading eyes.
βBetaβ¦shaadi kar lo! Ab Naina ka qissa khatam ho gaya haiβ¦aur shayad tum shaadi kar loge toh dheere dheere apne ateet ko bhula paaogeβ¦fir agar wo saamne aa bhi gayi to bhi tumhe taqleef nahi hogi betaβ¦!β
Sameer thought for a long while and finally nodded. This pain was unbearable for him now.
It was time to let go.
βJaisa aap theek samjhein mummyβ¦main koshish karunga!β
***
Sameer had been wondering if heβd agreed to the decision of getting married in a haste. For now that he had to meet up some girl that his mother had found for her, he was having second thoughts about the whole scenario. Well, I can always say βNoβ, the thought as he parked his car outside the Indian Coffee House in Connaught Place.
As he entered the restaurant, his eyes scanned the crowd of office-goers and young college students for the face his mother had shown him in the photograph two days back. And then he spotted her at a table in a far corner. At that exact moment, her eyes lifted up to him and he read recognition.
Sameer turned his lips into what he hoped was a polite smile and went to greet her, βSameer!β She stood up to shake hands with him. βNoopur!β she exclaimed in a soft, yet stern voice as she too propped a decent smile upon her face.
For a few moments, the boy and the girl surreptiously eyed each other from head-to-toe. Sameer had chosen a casual attire today- a brown trendy shirt and black jeans, while Noopur was clad in a perfectly crisp formal silk saree.
Opposites here! He concluded, though he had to accept the girl was pretty enough, decent too, and did seem intelligent from the assessing look on her face. Hopefully, not one of the frail, rat-brained rich chics heβd encountered numerous times in the past.
Noopur on the other hand, cursed her fate. This boy is much more handsome than heβd looked in that photograph, which made it harder for her to reject him straightaway.
Sameer cleared his throat and pointed to the table. Noopur sat down and Sameer took his chair. After a few awkward smiles with nothing to say, Sameer started the conversation, βaap kya lengiβ¦?β
βUhhβ¦ek cup chaiβ¦cheeni zyada aur ekdum kadakβ¦chai mera matlabβ¦,β she added, and regretted it the next moment.
Sameer smiled inwardly at her fumbling. Not bad Maheshwari. You still havenβt lost your charm!
βOkayβ¦!β he prompted the waiter, who appeared to take their order. βEk South Indian Filter coffeeβ¦ek chaiβ¦kadakβ, he looked at her and emphasized, ββ¦aurβ¦cutlets khayengi aap?β Sameer enquired and Noopur shrugged her shoulders. βEk plate vegetable cutlets bhi kar dijiye!β he closed the menu book as the waiter retreated.
βVaise mujhe non-veg zyada pasand haiβ¦!β Noopur remarked out of the blue.
Sameer blinked. βIβm really sorryβ¦main abhi change karwa deta hun order!β
She raised her hand, βarey itβs okayβ¦veg bhi pasand haiβ¦aap non-veg nahi khate?β
βNahi actually hamare ghar pe khate nahi hain to aadat hi nahi padi kabhiβ¦banta bhi nahiβ¦lekin aap bahar kha sakti hainβ¦!β Sameer responded. What in the world did he mean by that? It wasnβt as if he was going to wed her and bring her to his home!
βAgar shaadi ki tohβ¦!β Noopur completed for him. And then she seized the opprortunity.
βDekhoβ¦main na kuch cheezein saaf saaf bol dena chahti hunβ¦mujhe na ghuma fira ke baat karne ki aadat hai nahiβ¦tumhe to main aate hi reject karne wali thiβ¦par ab tum zarurat se zyada ache dikh rahe hoβ¦aur akalmand bhi lagte hoβ¦fir papa ne bataya tum khud ka business establish kar rahe ho....to maine socha ek mauka de sakti hunβ¦varna ameer ladkon ko to sirf paise, ladkiyaan aur daaru dikhti haiβ¦zimmedari ka bilkul ehsaas nahi!β Noopur rambled.
Sameer was taken aback. βTum mujhe reject karne wali thi?β My my! Have the tables turned?
βVaise mujhe aaj tak kisi ladki ne reject nahi kiya haiβ¦,βhe chose to ignore the one heβd loved, still giving her the benefit of doubt.
βWell, thereβs always a first time!β she remarked.
Sameer raised his brows. βOhhkayyyyβ¦!β This was really unexpected. He cleared his throat, βToh mujhe rejectβ, he quoted the word with his fingers in the air, ββ¦kyun karna chahti thi tumβ¦?β
βWo isliye kyunki mujhe shaadi vaadi mein koi interest nahi hai!β she replied candidly, as the waiter reappeared carrying their beverages and snacks.
βInterest nahi hai? Kyun? Tum 25 ki ho rahi ho right?β Sameer prompted as the waiter placed the dishes and mugs on the table.
β25 ki hun to kya shaadi karni zaruri hai? Mujhe to samajh nahi aata ki kahan se log ye dakiyanusi soch laate hain!β she muttered disgustedly.
Sameer couldnβt help but smile. βToh mana kar doβ¦simple!β
βTumhari ego hurt ho jayegiβ¦vaise bhi bandon ki ego kuch zyada hi badi rehti haiβ¦soβ¦,β she cocked her brows.
βAcha? Nahi donβt worryβ¦I donβt mind!β he responded, still trying to stifle a chuckle.
βKyun? Tumhe bhi nahi karni kya?β she asked, her eyes open wide.
He shrugged his shoulders.βKuch khas interest to nahi hai vaiseβ¦,β Sameer responded frankly. βAur tum naa itni sundar ho, naa hi itni intelligent lag rahi ho ki main firse sochunβ¦!β The teasing smile played on his lips. After exactly how many years?
She eyed him coldly. βZyada udo mat!β
Sameer was impressed by her courage.
βChai piyo..I think tumhe thandi chai nahi pasandβ¦aur mujhe thandi coffee nahi!β He pushed her cup forward with a slight smile.
Still a little uncertain, Noopur took the tea cup from his hands and sipped. Her eyes closed as she savoured the taste of the beverage. Perfect!
Sameer smiled at the look on her face.
βVaise tumhe kaise pata mujhe thandi chai nahi pasand?β
Sameer stirred his coffee and looked up at her, βSimpleβ¦jis tarah tumne chai ko describe kiyaβ¦usse laga tumhe chai kaafi pasand haiβ¦aur jahan tak maine dekha hai, chai ke shaukeen log thandi chai nahi pasand karteβ¦!β
Noopur nodded, βhmmmβ¦chalo kamse kam tum bevakoof nahi hoβ¦tez ho!β
Sameer grinned openly now. As he took a bite of the sumptuous cutlets, he asked, βacha farz karte hainβ¦hum dono shaadi karne mein thoda bahot bhi interested honβ¦toh kya baat karein?β
βDekho sabse pehli baat haiβ¦mujhe pyaar vyaar mein interest nahi haiβ¦mera pyaarβ¦mera obsession mera kaam haiβ¦main ek interior decorator hunβ¦,β she broke off at the confused look on Sameerβs face, βinterior decoratorβ¦jo aapke liye aapka ghar sajate hainβ¦?β she added hopefully.
βPar apna ghar main khud saja sakta hun naβ¦kisi aur ko kyun bolungaβ¦?β Sameer countered.
βKyunki main creative hunβ¦mere worldwide contacts hainβ¦Vastu, Feng shui mein expert hunβ¦main mood ke hisab seβ¦pasand ke hisab se, budget ke according tumhara ghar, officeβ¦wahan ka furniture sab design kar sakti hunβ¦matlab deewaron pe kaunsa colour hogaβ¦bedroom kaisa acha lagta haiβ¦living room mein kaise sofa hongeβ¦yeh sabβ¦pura ambienceβ¦jagah ka feel change kar sakte hain humβ.
When Sameer still didnβt look convinced, she fished out a book from her handbag, βyeh mere design kiye huye ghar hainβ¦well, maine help ki thi apne boss kiβ¦lekin pichle saal maine khud ki firm kholi haiβ¦mere dad mera busy schedule dekh ke, mujhe shaadi ke liye aur force kar rahe hainβ¦par yeh mera sapna hai aur main isse compromise nahi kar saktiβ.
Sameer took the book from her hand and turned the pages. Wowβ¦these houses were indeed beautifully decoratedβ¦some had more of a contemporary lookβ¦some were more in the antique tasteβ¦few were plain cheerful...!β
βImpressive! Toh?β
Noopur looked pleased with herself. βToh baat yeh hai ki shaadi kar ke main ghar pe hamesha pati ki seva mein aur bacchon ko paalne mein nahi lag saktiβ¦matlab abhi to nahiβ¦shayad 7-8 saal baadβ¦main apna kaam nahi chodna chahtiβ¦aur iski wajah se na koi mujhse shaadi karna chahta hai na main unse!β
βPhewβ¦mujhe laga shaadi isliye nahi karna chahti ki tumhe hamara ghar pasand nahi aaya!β he chuckled.
Noopur shrugged her shoulders. βVaise wo maine abhi tak dekha nahi hai tohβ¦that can also be a point!β
Sameer eyed her for a long time, judging her. βVaise mujhe isse kuch khas farak padta nahiβ¦main khud bhi ghar pe kam rehta hunβ¦mere liye meri publication agency bahot important haiβ¦mere colleagues mujhe workaholic bolte hainβ¦aur kehte hain ki meri biwi mujhse pareshaan rahegi ki main use time nahi dungaβ¦so I think wo problem hum dono ke beech nahi haiβ¦aur rahi baat bacchon kiβ¦to agar hum dono ko us cheez mein kabhi interest huaβ¦to shayad 7-8 saal baad main thoda buddha ho jaunga aur uski koi guarantee nahi de saktaβ¦,β he smirked.
Noopur couldnβt help but grin embarrassedly. βTheek hai usme thoda adjustment kar lengeβ¦!β
Sameerβs mood had changed. Though the girl in front of him could not compare to Naina, he was still captivated by her feisty nature, her honesty, her strength of character. Maybe he could settle down with that, even if he may never love her. Never love her! She should know this.
He cleared his throat once more. βNoopurβ¦tumne apne expectations ke baare mein to bata diyaβ¦but isse pehle tum koi decision loβ¦mujhe tumhe apne baare mein kaafi kuch batana haiβ¦!β
Noopur looked surprised and opened her mouth, but Sameer raised his hand. βMeri family history to tum jaanti hoβ¦baaki mere gharwalon ne meri tareefon ke pul zarur baandhe hongeβ¦ki main kitna mehnati hunβ¦kitna samajhdaar hunβ¦par unhone bahot si baatein tumse chupayi hainβ¦!β
Noopur shifted uncomfortably.
βI wouldnβt mind agar tum mujhe reject karoβ¦par main kisi se dhoke se shaadi nahi karna chahtaβ¦! Main koi shareef ladka nahi hun Noopurβ¦main ek time pe alcohol aur smoking se addicted thaβ¦abhi bhi kabhi kabhi peeta hunβ¦do din pehle hi kisi reason se pi thiβ¦but mostly Iβm in controlβ¦aur smoking mostly kuch saal pehle chod di thiβ¦bas do chaar baar kuch mahine pehle piβ¦fir nahiβ¦aur rahi baat mere character kiβ¦to wo bhiβ¦umm kaafi kharab raha haiβ¦mere bahot saari ladkiyon ke saath physical relations rahe hainβ¦haan ab maine wo sab chod diya haiβ¦par is cheez ko main piche jaake mita nahi saktaβ¦β. He took a pause before he continued, ββ¦aur agar mauka hota to shayad kabhi mitana bhi nahi chahtaβ¦kyunkiβ¦kyunki unmein se ek ladki bahot khas thiβ¦mere dil ke kareeb aaj tak usse zyada koi nahi aa paaya haiβ¦bahot acha waqt bitaya uske saath maineβ¦.meri sabse khas dost thiβ¦par usi ki wajah se bahot gham bhi mila mujheβ¦lekin fir bhi, main usse pyaar karta thaβ¦aaj, abhi, is pal bhi karta hunβ¦aur shayad future mein bhi karungaβ¦!β
Noopur appeared as if someone had slapped her across her cheek.
Sameer hastily added, βuski shaadi ho chuki haiβ¦uski ek bacchi bhi haiβ¦wo apni zindagi mein khush haiβ¦aur main uski khushi meinβ¦dard bahot hota hai, but shayad yahi qismat thi hamariβ¦usne mujhse pyaar nahi kiya thaβ¦par haanβ¦wo pyaar jo maine kabhi uske liye mehsoos kiya thaβ¦wo shayad kabhi kisi aur ke liye nahi kar paaungaβ¦.koshish karungaβ¦par main jaanta hun uski jagah mere dil mein koi le nahi sakti. Main apni biwi, jo bhi hoβ¦use us tarah toot ke pyaar na bhi karun, lekin apni taraf se koshish karunga ki use zindagi ki saari khushiyaan de paaunβ¦aur kamse kam ek acha dost, ek acha jeevan saathi ban sakunβ¦!β
Seeing Noopur silent, Sameer added, βyeh sab tumhara jaanana zaruri haiβ¦mostly yeh sab sunke tum mujhe sach mein βrejectβ kar dogiβ¦par main koi sach kisi se chupana nahi chahta!β
After a gap of a few minutes, Noopur nodded, engrossed in her thoughts.
βItni serious mat hoβ¦cutlets bahot ache hote hain yahan keβ¦khaoβ¦!β With this, Sameer offered a piece to her and took one himself and they ate in companionable silence.
βTum kabhi job interview ke liye gaye ho?β Noopur asked out of the blue.
βJob interview? Main? Nahiβ¦shuru se publication agency mein hi lag gayaβ¦kyun?β
βHmmβ¦acha kiyaβ¦reject ho jaateβ¦!β
When Sameer looked stumped, she added, βarey tumhe sach mein apni tareef nahi karni aatiβ¦aajkal log apni burayion ko bhi acha bana keβ¦badha chadha ke dikhate hainβ¦aur ek tum hoβ¦,β she grinned.
βSocho, tum bolte dekhiye sir, aapki kitaab se main 300 rupay ka profit kama raha hun, lekin aapko sirf 50 dungaβ¦infact jo maine aapko promise kiya tha ki achi quality ke pages use karunga, wo bhi nahi kar raha, par yeh aapka janana zaruri hai kyunki yeh kitaab aapne likhi hai!β
Sameer howled with laughter.
Noopur folded her arms across on the table and waited for him to calm down. βVaise mera sense of humour acha hai na?β
βBeshaqβ¦!β he sniggered.
Noopur muttered, βvaise thanks batane ke liyeβ¦tumhari jagah koi aur hota to shayad kabhi nahi batata!β
βSach to sach hai naβ¦!β he shrugged and then leaned in towards her and whispered, βvaise marketing sach mein mera weak point haiβ¦!β He winked at her and they both erupted in laughter again.
As the conversation progressed, both Sameer and Noopur discovered several interesting facets about the lives of the other- their individual likes, dislikes, their hobbies, their families. Before they knew, they lost track of time.
At a funny anecdote recited by Noopur about how she was afraid of dogs and how dogs always managed to single her out and pounce upon her, Sameer told her about the time heβd pranked his hostel warden as a kid, by taking advantage of his fear of spiders. For two days, heβd worked diligently and caught numerous spiders and put them all in his office at night. The next morning when the warden had opened the door, his horrified cry had risen the entire hostel.
As peals of laughter emanated from the table at the corner, the waiter strode over and turned on the radio set, setting the ambience for lunch. Kishore daβs melodious voice boomed in as Sameer and Noopur started to get a little lost in each other.
βEk ajnabi haseena seβ¦yun mulaqaat ho gayiβ¦
fir kya huaβ¦yeh na puchoβ¦kuch aisi baat ho gayi!β

I am bad at replying so sorry for the rare message..but I am waiting since ages for this story to move in some positive direction..with the news of the show I was hoping for a good update to cheer me up but I have to be honest after a paragraoh of Noopur I didnβt had the heart to read so skipped to read the last line..I am sorry..but didnβt like it..will be helpful if you give a glimpse of the upcoming as I donβt want to read noopur at all..
What is this yaar? I'm very disappointed and I don't like that noopur and uppar se voh song... Seriously this one is heartbreaking update
