they’re showing her to be an idiot if she does that. Leaving aside the whole love thing, in a place where it is really unsafe for two women to be on their own it is the practical thing to do to live with not just a policeman but one who has high morals, respects women and fights for others to respect them. If she didn’t return his feelings she should just be straight with him and continue living in his house as a tenant, with boundaries. It would be unfair on him but knowing the kind of person he is, I’m sure he would rather have them living under his roof where he can be assured of their safety. And Hs is literally the type of selfless person who can sacrifice his feelings for these two. I hope what you read doesn’t come through, I think it would be more hurtful to him if they leave than if she tells him she has no romantic feelings for him. And I actually think it’s because over and above his love for babita it seems he loves mini more.
Completely agree with everything you said, especially the last bit. After being given the right to discipline Minnie as a father, seeing her in pain, and also saying he was her father out loud, that part of his life and those feelings have been signed and stamped forever in his heart. He would go nuts with worry if they were to live alone and especially knowing Minnie's delicate mental and physical condition right now. Most importantly, he knows that she can't live without him either. He is her father first and then Babita's lover, and to be honest that's why I love him even more. ❤️
I've been thinking, there's another thing that binds Minnie and HS together: the fact that they both had irresponsible fathers who did not contribute to their upbringing in a proper way and left a bad impact on their impressionable minds when they were growing up. When he was talking about his father being abusive you could tell that he grew up with an emptiness and the lack of a role model. His grandfather was there but that's not the same thing. I think he connects to Minnie because of that and subconsciously has always wanted to provide her that security and all-encompassing fatherly love that he himself had missed out on, just like she had. At this stage in her life if she leaves the house I am sure she is going to mentally suffer due to losing her "father" after finally finding one, even if she might not realize it just yet.
In terms of practical considerations, if they leave the house, what would happen to HS? Will they have a story to tell about his daily life without those two? Don't want him to become Devdas who will come back to an empty house every night and drink.
