Guilt is actually a huge motivator for both of them. Malhar feels really guilty for all the things he did to Kalyani during their first marriage, and I think to some extent, Kalyani also feels guilty for ruining Anupriya's life and treating her so horribly, way back at the beginning of the show. That's why she always goes out of her way to help Anupriya.
