Where though? East coast? West coast? Mid west? South? They’re all quite different.

East coast

Pack plenty of warm clothes. You are going to need them in Winter .

Get some thermals you would need them in the winter

buy clothes from India as its better quality and cheaper (except jackets/winter coats) - esp cotton/silk

buy books from India

General Medicines etc take from India

I had no money when I came here for MS 2 years back, therefore I had bought all essential stuff like Toothbrush , Handkerchief , Batteries , Stationery etc all from India.

once you go to college - depending on your college, try to get in touch with Indian student Association of your college

Try to get Graduate Assistant job early on. That will give you SSN card. International students on F1 are not allowed to work outside campus

Main thing - Try to find good roommates and house.

Try not to fall sick or take unnecessary risks as Medical is very costly

you will definitely need a winter/snow jacket - ...north face has good collection with great quality.....however bit pricey. So if you find something similar from India its better to get it from there. But I am not sure if they will be that protective.
