Today's episode proved that one sided feelings are not for everyone. Not everyone can handle them with softness, subtlety, and no expectations. Despite all the frustration, I liked that cvs showed Shibani's one sided crush on Sameer because it increased my appreciation for the innocent selfless Naina in PVKM.
Her one sided feelings for Sameer were strong and powerful but she never tried to smother him with it or even showed them properly. She liked him from afar and helped him from afar. Innocent, soft, warm, selfless, not to mention unconditional. She never expected Sameer to return them and harboured her feelings in trying to aid him- giving him support without making it too obvious be it the first lie she told for him or the night phone calls to motivate him. She truly wanted his wellbeing and happiness in life.
Shibani, on the other hand, has been trying to take possession of Sameer since day one. Constantly hitting on him, making him uncomfortable. Holding his hand without his consent highlighting that she doesnt in actuality felt for him genuinely. It was more like a demand to just have him. That because she loved he has to be with her. Which is why today when she said she loved Sameer and he loved her I wasn't particularly surprised. Her feelings for him were selfish from the get go and she expected him to love her just because she loved him.
Its been highlighted in earlier episodes as well that Jatin really spoils her and gives her whatever she wants. This has somewhere made her the way she is with Sameer. She has feelings for him but unable to manage her expectations she believes that just because she has gotten everything she has ever wanted in life she would get Sameer too. Of course, not realising that Sameer is a person of his own who is capable enough to make his own decisions in life.
Naina on the other hand, has been brought up by her chachaji and chachiji who taught her the importance of love in relationships. Taunted constantly and treated rather negligently by her father and extended family made her realise you don't get everything you want in life but hardwork, dreams, and selflessness go a long way.
And now I finally understand why the Made In India sequence was given because in that Shibani saw herself as a queen giving orders to Sameer. However, in most of Naina's dream sequences there is always equality, respect, and a natural warmth.
We were sitting on top of such masterful writing and never realised it because Shibani's character really irritated us. Granted cvs have made mistakes here too but they have showed a rather beautiful contrast between one sided love and how they are handled by different people.
