'Malayali weddings get over in 15 minutes'
Vivan Bathena, Druv of Kumkum, is tying the knot on March 27 with his girlfriend Nikhila Palat. He got engaged on July 22 on Nikhila's birthday. We spoke to Nikhila, the sister of actor-model Divya Palat, for more details.
"We are getting married according to Malayali tradition since I am one. I wanted to get married as quickly as possible and thankfully, Malayali weddings get over in 15 minutes," says Nikhila.
"He is half Parsi and half Marathi but his family is fine with it. He is going to wear a white mund (dhoti) and light coloured shirt while I will wear a white saree with golden border which we generally wear on wedding day. We are also shopping differently since it is not good to shop together. However, my mother is tense as I am not getting enough time for it," she adds.
On the marriage preparations, she says, "Vivan has bought material for his suit and his friends are designing it. Boys do not wear much jewellery so he will only wear a ring. He has bought a platinum ring for me and Pali which we wear after marriage. It is a like mangalsutra - a small golden leaf which is to be worn on the neck. He had shown it to me but my mum told me that I should not have seen it. On the other hand I am buying everything readymade. I have not shopped for too much jewellery because I am going to wear royal ornaments which belong to my great grandparents. My great grandfather was the Prince of Kochi at one point of time."
Vivan and Nikhila are planning to go to Bali for honeymoon." My sister is throwing a party for me before marriage. Then I will go to Goa with my friends after the marriage. After that Vivan promised me that he will fix everything for our honeymoon. But he is busy in his shooting so we have decided to go to Bali, since both of us love beaches. Ironically, he shops more that me and it is very relaxing for us."
Nikhila informs, "Vivan is taking a two-week of break from his shooting. Both of us are not taking long holidays since we have to keep on earning. After the marriage his mother is going to stay with us. Both he and his mother are good cooks so I am safe as far as food is concerned. I have asked him about other household responsibilities and he sweetly told me that he will always be there to share responsibilities."
Vivan is doing two more shows apart from Kumkum. He is playing the lead Shabd in Maayka and a captain in Choona Hai Aasman. He was recently seen in Chak De in a cameo.
Nikhila is working in the Marketing dept with the Wadia Group of Companies. We wish the couple happy married life in advance.
