Chapter 38

As she left her bedroom, she first checked the door to Nanaji’s room. It was very slightly ajar, but the complete silence and darkness inside confirmed that Nanaji was asleep and her husband wasn’t in there.

Halfway through the staircase, her resolve wavered, as she wondered if she should just let him be? But then she again resumed her climb thinking, Aise kaise roz mann badal sakte hai?! Main har din yahi soch ke thodi gujar sakti hu ke aaj uppar soyenge ya neeche? Aaj toh unhe faisla karna hi hoga. Aur aaj agar neeche nahi aaye toh main bhi… For a moment she wondered feeling a little lost, just what would she do? Ha, main bhi bol dungi ke mujhe aise hi uthaya hua nahi chalega… biwi hu toh kya hua?!

The door to his room was wide open, but it was eerily quiet and dark. Just the curtain in his window rustled every time a breeze blew. She looked towards the bathroom door which was open too. Yaha bhi nahi hai… kaha gaye honge... she now thought fidgeting a little with the ends of her duppata. Kahi kitchen mein kuch meetha khane toh nahi chale gaye? Par itni raat ko meetha kaun khata hai?! She turned back and headed downstairs.

As she reached the ground floor, she thought she heard something in the lounge. But it was shrouded in deep shadows when she peeked in, the dining area and kitchen behind seemed to be in a similar state too. Should she check inside Nanaji’s room? Feeling a rather unnerved, still standing in the entrance to the lounge she uttered a shaky “Sameer???”

Sameer had been lost in his musings in one corner but rose swiftly hearing her call. She jumped a little and almost shrieked “Aap yaha?!!” He asked a little confused “Aare darr kyun rahi ho? Tumne mujhe hi pukara na?” She approached him with an uneven heartbeat and voice too “Ha… par aap… andhere mein kyun baithe hain?” He mumbled “Woh main to bus kuch soch raha tha…” Some of her earlier annoyance returned thinking, Kuch soch rahe hai? Aur main itna pareshaan ho rahi hu uska kya?! As she stood a couple of paces away from him, she said in a more accusatory tone “Main toh uppar bhi dekh ke aayi… mujhe laga aap bina bataye hi uppar chale gaye… aisa kyun karta hai?!”

As the irritation accompanying her question registered, his already quaking conscience shook some more. Such mooch, aisa kyun karta hai? What had he done???

He took a step forward and pulled her into a hug as he muttered urgently “Naina, I am so sorry... I am really sorry!” She froze. This was unexpected. She surely hadn’t complained about anything that important. So, why was he apologizing? And that too sounding so upset?? As she tried to move back to ask what was happening, he tightened the hug and whispered “I promise, main aage sab kuch theek se sambhal lunga. Kuch bhi galat nahi karunga. Tumhe aur Nanu ko zara bhi tension nahi dunga.”

The proverbial wheels in Naina’s brain started spinning at jet speed, trying to make some sense of his mutterings. He had been conversing with Nanaji for a long time, so it was safe to assume that this was a result of that chat. She recalled Nanu’s words from earlier in the factory about how he could retire or lessen his involvement in the business only once Sameer stepped up enough. Had Nanaji said something to him, that had made him feel responsible for the current health issues, or like he was failing at handling the situation as he ought to?

She raised her one hand to cup his face and started “Sameer aap itna kyun upset ho rahe hai? Abhi toh ” She stopped abruptly as she felt some moisture on his cheeks. Her voice trembled “Aap ro rahe hai? Kya ho gaya? Koi problem hai kya? Nanaji ne kuch kaha aapse? Please aap chinta mat kijiye… jo bhi problem hoga hum koi na koi solution dhund hi lenge.” Suddenly she thinking of something else asked “Doctor uncle ne kuch aur bola hai kya? Nanaji ki tabiyat jyada kharab toh nahi hai?”

He brushed away part of her fears “Nahi, Nanu theek hai… unki health se related aur koi problem nahi hai.” She was now more bewildered “Toh phir kya hua? Factory ki koi problem hai?” He sounded slightly impatient “Naina main tumse sorry keh raha hu… iss mein factory kaha se aayi?!” She asked stumped “Par mujhe kyun sorry keh rahe hai?” And then wondering if he was apologising for the kiss earlier in the day, she mumbled “Woh… mujhe bilkul bhi bura nahi laga…”

He drew away a little trying to catch a better view of her face in the dark and asked incredulously “Bura kaise nahi laga???” She fumbled “Bus nahi laga… aisa toh hota hoga na shaadi ke baad… shayad… matlab, mujhe aisa lagta hai… ha, shayad aaj factory mein nahi karna chahiye tha…” He was even more perplexed “Aaj factory mein kya hua, jiske liye mujhe sorry bolna chahiye??” So, he wasn’t apologizing for the kiss… She asked “Aap sorry kyon bol rahe hai? Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha hai…”

He stood silent not sure where to start. Naina heard Nanaji cough slightly and murmured pulling him by his hand “Kamre mein chal ke baat kare? Nanaji jaag na jaye…” Nodding in agreement he followed her inside.

Jal chuke hain badan kayi, piya isi aag mein

Thake huye inn hatho ko, dede mere hath mein

Ho, sukh mera le le, mai dukh tere le lu

Sukh mera le le, mai dukh tere le lu

Mai bhi jiyu, tu bhi jiye ho…

Aaja piya tohe pyar du

Gori baiyya tope var du…

The radio in her room, was on as usual.

She closed the door but left it unbolted after he was inside too. The song playing suddenly seemed far too fitting and a shade too suggestive for comfort, and so she turned off the radio.

As he was about to sit on her bed, she uttered “Pehele khidki band kar lijiye!” He started “Par kal toh tumne kaha tha… koi jarurat nahi… tumhe darr nahi lagega, agar main“ She spoke “Darr toh nahi laga, par subhe bahoot thand lagne lagi thi.” He smiled slightly and closed the window. She switched the nightlight on and the tube off. As he looked up in surprise, she explained “Woh aap kehete hai na, ke andhere mein baat karna aasan hota hai… ab batayiye aap itne pareshaan kyun hai?”

He looked at her in wonder, kiss mitti ki bani hai yeh? Aur maine aisa kya punya kiya hoga jo Bhagwanji ne isse mujhse takra diya?!

He stood up and switched on the tube saying “Nahi Naina, yeh baat mujhe tumse nazar churake nahi karni hai.” She rubbed her kangan apprehensively “Sameer… mujhe ab darr lag raha hai… aap please jo kehna hai khul ke kahiye.”

She had removed all the non-essential accessories for the night, the tiny smudge of sindoor and the brightly sparkling mangalsutra seemed to contrast with the almost childlike expression and the innocence in her eyes. She looked like she was playing dress-up. In that moment, he wondered if she had been forced to shoulder the yoke of so many responsibilities far too early.

While sitting outside, he had contemplated on what to say to her, and recalled all that she had disclosed to him of her family dynamics. That night when most of her vulnerabilities had surfaced, she had expressed a lot of fears about the present and the future, but she had not uttered a single word about what she had been through. Did she not trust him enough to share that hurt… that moment when she must have felt truly abandoned by her family?

Banaras… evoked the image of hordes of faithful on those ghats… but a lot of their eyes mirrored only their desolate state rather than any devotion. He had watched a documentary once, in which some foreigner fascinated with the mystical India had interviewed a lot of people on those banks of the Ganges, as he called it. Though a few claimed to have found God in that place, most had seemed to be completely lost themselves. The documentary maker had visited some ashram for widows, filled with women of all ages, right from eighteen to eighty. Women, who had no place in the world out there, outcasted by their own families. Would she have ended up there, while her husband was still alive? No, she would have fought and made a place for herself in this world. But the fight would have still left her covered in scars and some scabs that never quite healed.

He wasn’t sure if she was ready to own up her deepest vulnerabilities… if she would ever believe in him so deeply. He decided to leave that for now, but instead address that which could be.

His silence seemed to be screaming. She couldn’t understand where all that pain reflected in his eyes was coming from. Something was terribly wrong. Her lower lip trembled as she grabbed his arm and almost pleaded “Sameer… kuch toh boliye.”  He reiterated “I am so sorry!” She croaked looking unnaturally pale “Par, kiss liye??”

He seeing her so unnerved, gently sat her down on the bed and then clasping her hand said “Naina, aaj jab meri Dinaz aunty se baat hui toh…” She wondered what Dinaz aunty had to do with anything between them. He gulped anxiously and then continued “Woh kehene lagi ke bahoot acha hua tum already yaha aa gayi ho… aur yeh ke…. tumhari Bidai jadli karwane ka advice unhone aur Rustom uncle ne Nanu ko diya tha.” She blinked “Woh kyun?”

Rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb he went on “Maine Nanu se poocha toh unhone kaha ke, un sab ko laga ke jab tak tum yaha nahi aa jati, hum dono mein koi baat-chit nahi hogi aur na hi ek dusre ko samajhne lagenge.” Naina tried to remember everything from that evening spent with the Bharuchas. She mumbled “Par uss din jab woh aaye thay, tab toh sab theek tha… aap toh baat bhi kar rahe thay mujhse. Baat toh baad mein hi bigadi thi…” He took some heart that she said bigadi thi, maybe they still could leave it all in the past.

He replied “Naina, pata nahi unhe uss din humme dekh kar kya laga… par maine toh tumse bidai ke baat chalne se pehele hi bahoot batamizi ki thi…tumhe ghar aane se mana bhi toh kiya tha.” Seeing her almost flinch at that memory, he instinctively tried to deflate some of the blame “Par uss mein na jyada fault uss Rohan ki Dadi ka tha… pata nahi kya ulta seedha bol ke gayi uss din tumhare parivar ke baare mein. Mere dimag mein itne doubts create kiye unhone ke main har baat pe shaq karne laga.” She looked on in confusion, but her hand squeezed his in some sort of reassurance. He tried to set the record straight “Par, akhir galti toh meri hi thi. Woh chahe kuch bhi kahe… mujhe toh thoda akal se kaam lena chahiye tha, right? Itne saalon se jaanta hu unhe aur unki sari chalakiyo ko! Aur agar main tumhe uss waqt itna samajh nahi paya tha, toh bhi Nanu tumhe itna pasand karte hai yahi dekhna chahiye tha.”

She did not know what to say. Listening to some limited accounts of that the senior Mrs Somani, Naina had decided the old lady sounded rather formidable, but she couldn’t make any sense of what she had done to deserve her spite. Why had that woman tried to rob her of her little share of joy?

Sameer did not know what she would think of him after learning of all the flaws in him, but he wanted her to see him for who he really was and then decide if he was worth loving. After a small pause he disclosed his voice heavy with emotions “Naina, actually Nanu tumhari itni tarrif karne lage thay… toh mujhe tumse thodi jalan hone lagi thi. Sochta tha, sab tumhe kitni aasani se itna pyar karte hai. Mujhe toh sirf Nanu ke pyar ki aadat thi, aur suddenly darr lagne laga ke kahi woh bhi tumhe hi jyada pasand na karne lage.” All she managed to utter in disbelief was “Mujhse aasani se pyar?!” He mumbled “Mujhe nahi pata tha tumhare gharwalon ke baare mein… aur phir uss din jab tumne kaha ke Nanu ne shaadi se pehele tumse tumhari marzi poochi thi toh mujhe aur bhi bura laga. Jaise tumhari marzi unke liye jyada important thi.”

She shook her head “Aap galat samajh rahe hai. Nanaji ke liye aap se badhkar toh kabhi koi ho hi nahi sakta. Maine dekha hai, unhe aap ki kitni chinta lagi rehti hai…” Her eyes softened remembering that moment before the wedding and she whispered “Sameer, Nanaji bahoot ache hai. Warna kyun poochte mujhse? Mere gharwalon ne toh…” Her voice caught in her throat; she lowered her eyes in shame. How do you tell someone that your father had been ready to cast you aside in a moment?

As a few tears rolled down her cheeks, she somehow the dragged the word “Bus yahi samjhiye uss waqt halaat bilkul theek nahi thay. Sab log Guruji aur humare Punditji ki baate sunn ke bahoot pareshaan thay. Main bhi darr gayi thi. Jab Nanaji itne ehsaas ke sath poocha kya main iss rishtay ko nibha payungi… toh… main bata nahi sakti aap ko mujhe uss pal mein kitni ummeed nazar aayi. Aisa laga, itne ache insaan ke ghar jayungi toh shayad meri zindaji bhi badal jayegi.”

He snorted in disbelief “Aur mila main!” She looked up slightly alarmed “Kya matlab?” He gently wiped away some of her tears, and replied with a very pained expression “Nanu is so kind… aur main itna unkind…” She immediately objected “Aisa kyun keh rahe hai? Aap bhi bahoot ache ho… maine dekha hai aap ke dil mein dusro ke liye kitni humdardi hoti hai.” He sardonically chuckled and asked her “Acha? Toh batao kab dekhi hai tumne mujh mein itni achai ya koi kindness?” As she seemed to mull over this, he thought, Isse bhi maine kaunsi duwidha mein dal diya, bechari sochti hi reh jayegi…

Naina exclaimed “Aapne uss din gulab ke phool laye thay!” As he wondered how was that an act of kindness? She continued “Aur who rickshaw bhi rakha hai mere liye.” Feeling stumped he asked “Issme achai ki kaha se baat aa gayi?” She explained “Rickshaw aapne woh office wale kissi worker ke rishtedar ki madat karne ke liye rakha tha… aur phool uss jarurat mand ladke ke liye... itna toh sochte hai ajnabi logon ka bhi.” He shifted a little uneasily thinking, Yeh sab toh tumhare pyar mein kiya hai… main toh khud ki hi madat karne mein laga tha! He urged “Bus ek aur example de do…” She pondered some more and then smiled “Kutta!” He was extremely confused “Kutta??” She elaborated “Uss din mandir gaye thay toh aapne uss kutte ko biscuits khilaye thay. Aap ke mann mein toh animals ke liye bhi itna pyar hai…” He drew some comfort, yes, she had come up with one genuine act of kindness.

She noting he looked unconvinced, tried to assure him for a few minutes how he was so similar to his grandfather and it was just a matter of time before he would be able to completely step into his shoes. As she tried to build back his confidence, Sameer felt even more ashamed of himself thinking how he had left no stone un-turned in trying to break her.

He suddenly hushed her “Naina, achi toh tum ho, jo tumhe abhi bhi mujhe kuch acha nazar aata hai… but believe me, I am really sorry for everything I have said and done. Sorry yeh shabd shayad bahoot chota hai, par main pure dil se keh raha hu. Main janta hu, maine tumhara bahoot dil dukhaya hai. But I promise, aisa phir kabhi nahi hoga!” She tried to stop him “Yeh sab chodiye… abhi un baaton ko dohorane ki kya jarurat hai?” He did not want to be let off the hook so easily “Jarurat hai. Taaki aage chalke tumhare dil mein koi shikwa na reh jaye… tumhe mujhpe jo ghussa ho… ya mujhse jitni shikayate, unhe express karo. Please kuch bhi apne andar mat rakho.” As she hesitantly shook her head, he insisted “Tumhe mere kasam, please bolo.”

She sat soundlessly for a few moments and then shared her list of hurts, some expected and some unexpected; Jab aap ne Kangan uttarne ko kaha tha tab bahoot bura laga tha mujhe (he definitely remembered that moment as she stood before him with the aarti thali, the day of the Teej), aur kabhi bhi na toh phone karte thay aur na mujhse koi baat (had she waited for his calls?! he was surprised), phir Sunday ko ghar aane se manna kar diya aur kitna kuch sunaya tha uss din bike stand mein (a few tears rolled down both their cheeks at that memory), aur uss din kitna datta tha sab ke samne! (his mind went blank) t-shirt hi toh rakha tha apne pass, aisa kaunsa kuber ka khazana loot liya tha aapka? Munna kabhi apni biwi ko aise daatega thodehi aap ke samne! (he held his ear in apology, as he looked bashful realising just how embarrassing it must have been for her that day)

When she went quiet like she had finished, he pointed out “Tumne bidai ke pehele wali baat ka jikra nahi kiya… sabse badi galti toh meri wahi thi.” She looked away “Woh batane ki toh koi jarurat ho hi nahi sakti!” He paled hearing her barely concealed scathing tone but decided he had deserved it.

After almost a minute, he said “Naina, yeh mat samjho ke main koi excuse de raha hu… bus yahi chahata hu, ke agar ho sake toh tum mera point of view samjho. Aur main yeh bhi nahi keh raha hu ke meri soch sahi thi… par sochta hu, jo bhi tha tumhe pata hona chahiye.” She looked at him with a questioning gaze and her head tilted to one side. He talked a little about his childhood and how after growing up in the boarding school, he often struggled to understand family dynamics. The sense of belonging that came naturally to most people, had seemed to elude him for many years.

She responded “Mujhe thodi idea hai… Nanaji ne kuch kuch samjhaya tha mujhe.”

He tried to explain how things had seemed to change for the better after he moved to Ahmedabad the previous year, “Shayad peheli baar dil ko sukoon milne laga tha. Nanu aur Munna-Pandit ke sath main bahoot khush tha. Delhi mein guzare teen saalon mein kabhi itna apnapan mehsus nahi hua tha. Such kahu toh, mujhe pehele kabhi kissi bhi aurat ya ladki ki kuch samajh hi nahi aayi. Maa se toh mujhe saalon itne shikwe rahe hai ke unse kabhi khul kar koi baat karne ka toh sawal hi nahi tha, par college mein bhi ladkiyon se dosti nahi kar paya. Mujhe unse bhi kya baat karu kuch samajh hi nahi aata tha… aur woh jo kehti thi ya toh mere palle hi nahi padta tha, ya toh bahoot bore ho jata tha!”

Sameer realised that he was probably analysing the whole situation in so much depth for the first time, “Naina, shayad issiliye mere mann mein dur tak shaadi ka koi khayal bhi nahi tha. Aur phir suddenly Shaadi ho gayi! Main nahi chahata tha meri life mein kuch bhi abhi change ho, aur yaha toh sab kuch a pal mein badal gaya! Such keh raha hu, mera toh dimaag hi chalna band ho gaya tha… aur bahoot darr lagne laga tha…”

She acknowledged “Sameer, darr toh mujhe bhi bahoot laga tha… matlab aise kaise ek minute mein kissi ajnabi se shaadi ho sakti hai?!” He was surprised to hear her confession “Par, tum toh hamesha sab kuch kitna effortlessly kar leti thi. Main toh tumhe dekh kar aur bhi lost feel karta tha. Aisa lagta tha jaise kissine tumhe exam se pehele hi question paper leak kar diya ho, aur mujhe toh syllabus bhi pata nahi hai!”

That made her smile a little. She replied “Nahi… such mooch bahoot darr laga tha… maine Chachiji se kaha bhi tha. Par phir unhone samjahya ke shaadi toh kabhi na kabhi honi hi thi aur humare yaha jyadatar ladke-ladkiyan ek dusre ko shaadi ke baad hi jaanne lagte hai. Aur mere sare gharwale aapke parivar se bahoot khush thay… toh bus maine apna mann bana liya.” He wanted to ask, aur dil ka kya? But she went on “Maine kabhi bhi apni shaadi ko leke kuch khaas socha nahi tha. Par yeh toh pata tha ke college khatam hote hi shaadi hogi, ya gharwale rishta dhundhna shuru karenge. Shayad issiliye jo bhi hua maine adjust kar liya.”

The words adjust kar liya jarred on his ears. Was all this just a compromise for her? Suddenly he found it hard to tell her how deeply he had come to love her since that first glimpse. An image of her covered in her suhag-ki-nishaniya, sitting on the ground slightly out of breath and completely lost flashed through his mind. Sameer found it strange, how he had struggled to remember her face those first few days, only her eyes had been etched in his soul, but today the memory had sprung from nowhere.

Meri Naina, his heart claimed with great longing. Her name suited her to the tee… Naina… her eyes always spoke volumes. A small part of him asked, and do they not speak to you of love?

She suddenly asked “Aap ko mujhe baate karna bore hota hai kya?” and then after a minimal pause continued “Maine dekha hai, aap kabhi kabhi baat ko adha chod ke hi chale jaate hai…” He objected “Aare maine aisa kab kaha?!” She argued “Abhi toh aap keh rahe thay ke aapko ladkiyon se baate karna bore hota hai…” He tried to explain “Main tumhari baat thodehi kar raha tha!” She frowned “Par main bhi toh ladki hi hu.” He shook his head “Ha, par alag ho. Mujhe tumhari baat samajh aati hai.” And then blushing a bit as he squeezed her hands, he added “Aur achi bhi lagti hai.” She asked shyly “Suchi?” He assured “Ekdum pakka!”

The Gurkha walking on the street outside blew his whistle. Naina looked at the clock on her table in surprise “Baara baj bhi gaye… ab so jaye?” He wanted to object thinking, par abhi woh khaas baat toh hui hi nahi hai! She mumbled “Subhe jaldi uthna bhi hai… aur aaj pura din bhi bilkul khade khade chala gaya… kamar mein dard hone laga hai. Aur kal Ramdhari bhaiya bhi lunch ke baad apne gaav ke liye nikal padenge, toh aur bhi kaam hoga.” He nodded reluctantly and then got into bed.

Naina opened the door slightly and said as she turned off the light “Maine pani ki ek bottle rakhi hai bed ke pass, aap ko shayad raat mein pyaas lagti hai na?” He smiled in the dark as he covered himself with a blanket. As she got into the bed and started reaching for her blanket, he gently pulled on her arm and pulled her under his own. He said something, but neither understood what. Naina had lost the capacity to hear and speak, but her ability to feel had greatly amplified, and it was probably no different for him.

Sleep seemed to fly out of the closed window in an instant. Naina felt every cell in her body wake-up to myriad new sensations. Sameer thought in shock at his own impulsive action, Yaar paas toh aa gaya, par ab kya karu?!

He wasn’t sure what exactly had possessed him to draw her into his blanket. And then he wondered, why was he overthinking it? They have fallen asleep just as close the night before. Almost just as close, another part of his brain argued. Without the two blankets between them, the cloth of his t-shirt and her kurta felt far too thin. He could feel her soft belly raise under his arm every time she inhaled. Their heads were resting on separate pillows, but he yearned to inch his head closer and rest it against her head. He wanted to inhale the clean and crisp lemony fragrance of her shampoo. Was she shivering a little? Thand lag rahe hai, ya kuch aur ho raha hai?? he wondered feeling a little out of depth.

Naina blinked though the room was pitch-dark. Her fingers curled around some rough wool of the blanket, like she was clinging on to it for her dear life. The previous night she had laid awake for a long time too, till sleep had claimed him. But tonight, instead of slipping into a slumber, his breathing seemed to be turning more irregular. She could feel his warm breath on one side of her face, as she fought to keep her own breathing steady. And then he nuzzled that side of her face with his nose and pressed a tender kiss against her temple, as he whispered Goodnight. She instinctively moved a little lower and buried her face against his chest. It took a long time for his heart rate to return to anything close to normal.

In the darkness, Naina felt like the sun was finally smiling down on them. He had been confused and caught off guard, by all that had suddenly happened in his life, correction their life. She had known that very much like her, he had not lived a normal childhood, but she hadn't understood the extent of his hurt and how it had molded him. Nanaji had been right all along. He had just needed the time to understand and experience, what a home and family meant.

She decided that the way she had managed to make a place for herself in his life, one day she would definitely make one for her in his heart too.

Though the next morning felt slightly more routine, Sameer woke up with his feelings sort of playing ping-pong. All the revelations of the previous night still cast a melancholy shadow, but something about her reactions and responses had left him feeling rather hopeful.

That day when she entered the room after bathing, he mumbled a Good morning as he watched her through half-hooded eyes. Naina fidgeted a bit with her towel, as she looked at the door and him indecisively, for almost a minute. When he made no attempt to leave, she finally bolted the door and turning away processed with draping the saree just like the day before, only this time acutely aware of his intent gaze.

As soon as he joined Nanaji at the breakfast table, the older man asked softly “Baat ki tumne Naina se?” He nodded “Ki… bus puri nahi. Sorry toh bol diya, par baaki ki nahi ho payi…” As Nanaji looked a little disappointed, he mumbled in explanation “Main toh sab kuch bolne wala tha, par usse neend aa rahi thi… thak gayi thi bahoot. Par aaj jarur karunga.”

When Naina brought out some sliced apples post the main breakfast, Nanaji said to him “Sameer, aaj shaam ko factory se jaldi aa jana aur Bahu ko zara ghumane le jaana. Diwali ki jag-mag dekh ke aao dono!” As the young couple smiled and nodded, he went on “Main soch raha tha… abhi tumhare college ki chutiya toh do aur hafte tak chalegi na? Dekho, Ramdhari gaav hoke aa jaye, toh dono zara kuch dinno ke liye kahi holiday ke liye chale jana.” Sameer objected “Nanu, abhi jab aap ki tabiyat theek nahi hai, hum kahi nahi jayenge.” Nanaji responded “Aare, beta tabiyat toh theek ho hi rahi hai… kuch dinon mein aur behtar ho jayegi. Dekho, thode change ke liye kahi bahar nikalna acha hota hai.”

As Sameer started “Nahi Nanu…” his wife interjected “Sameer, Nanaji bilkul theek keh rahe hai! Change acha rahega… yaha toh factory ke kaam mein hi lage rahenge.” Feeling a little torn between his concern for his grandfather and her enthusiasm for a Honeymoon, her husband looked a little uneasy. She went on happily “Hum toh soch hi rahe thay na ke Nanaji ko thoda break leke relax karna chahiye… toh holiday toh perfect hoga! Nanaji aap batayiye aap ko hill station jana acha lagega ya dariya keenare?”

Both men looked at her in surprise! Nanaji started “Naina, beta main toh tum dono ki baat kar raha hu… family vacation thodehi.” She frowned “Aur kyun nahi? Sabse jyada holiday ki jarurat toh aap hi ko hai! Aur hum aap ke sath hoge, toh humme yaha se aap ki chinta bhi nahi lagi rahegi.” She turned to her husband with an expectant look “Theek kaha na maine?!” He nodded along muttering “Sochte  hai… pehele main dekhta hu kitna kaam hai, aur nikala possible bhi hai ke nahi…” but was thinking, Nanu sath honge toh, honeymoon toh hone se raha… koi teerth yatra hi book karna better hoga!

Sameer returned from the factory that evening about half past five. He had shortlisted a couple of ideas for the evening, but wanted her to choose one. Naina opened the door, as Ramdhari had headed on his home-visit earlier in the day.

He immediately asked “Aare, tum bilkul taiyar nahi hui??” She explained “Aaj nahi jayenge… Dopahar mein bus khana khake uth rahe thay, toh Nanaji ke Nadiad wale dost Kothari Kaka aaye. Bus abhi sham ko chai pee ke nikale hai. Nanaji puri dopahar unke sath baithe thay. Abhi aaram karne gaye hai. Mujhe kuch thake hue lag rahe hai… toh unhe akele nahi chodenge.” He agreed as they entered the lounge “Ha, tum theek keh rahi ho.”

She asked “Coffee peeyenge na aap? Main abhi banati hu.” He nodded and then looked at their wedding album left on the coffee table with a quizzical expression, she explained “Woh, Nanaji ne Kakaji ko dikhane nikala tha.” He uttered an O… As she headed to the kitchen, she called “Aap fresh ho jayiye... main coffee uppar hi le aati hu.” And then added a little shyly “Jhule pe baith ye peeye?”

Sameer glanced at the wedding album with mixed feelings. He had peeked at it briefly just once, that day with the Somanis. Maybe it was time to lay some ghosts to rest, for good.

(One more big conversation down! smiley2 Happy weekend!!!)

I liked how Sameer shared his insecurities, his childhood, Dadi's influence on his decision with Naina so that Naina understands his state of mind as well. And Naina also shared her part with him. We, readers can definitely see an emotional growth in their relationship.

And then sharing same blanket, an ocean of sudden emotions and then a gentle kiss -- it was perfect. Now vacation planning -- haha 😆 Nanu wants to send them on their honeymoon and Naina wants to do a family vacation. And Sameer's confusion 😆 Poor boy! Kiski baat sune.

Waiting eagerly for next update. Sab kuch bayan krne k Baad bhi Jo Dil me hai vo na bol paaye. Let's see kab kehte Hain ye dono ek dusre ko apne Dil ki baat.

Lots of love,

Shweta 🤗

Hey May, thanks for Giving such lengthy update even after hectic schedule...

But this is Cheating... this was just apology and no confession 😃

Oh I so wanted Sameer to not discuss that Banaras topic with her until they confess and share life together... Otherwise Naina would assume Nanu and Sameer chose her in their life out of pity..

Btw why is Naina so naive.. why will sameer apologize and cry after kissing his wife  smiley1

The discussion and apology was so natural and the conversation was perfectly blending with their character  ... It was needed for Naina to share her pain on each of his rude accusation so that they can leave it to past...

Loved Naina's thought of family vacation... Sameer's romantic side being disappointed and thinking of Teerth yatra was so cute and funny... Not sure how long he is gonna control watching her draping saree every morning in a locked room..

Samaina in one blanket and temple kiss... so you are going to kill viewers with slow poison 😆 But it made sense for Sameer to not initiate anything further after such an emotional confrontation... Also I think first kiss might lead to hilarious talks as Naina might consider herself pregnant without talwaar on his tongue😆

She wants to fulfill her wish of sharing coffee with him on the swing and sameer watching album before coffee is going to have after effects  .. can’t wait 😊

Cheers,

Akanksha

Now I'm confused who is bholuraam here!!! Sameer was hugging her and naina was thinking what happened! Naina ko kab samajh ayega sameer bhi ab interested hai 😂😂 Aur honeymoon bhi na samjhi! Pagal ladki 😂 Another buddhuraam sab bol diya bas ilu chodke! But the pull was 🤪Bhai Sameer toh mouke pe chouka mar raha hai. Har raat ki ab yahi kahani hogi. I'm loving it 😍 Why Friday is so far 😞😞
