@bold: I am not so sure.. from both of them, it's Alia that seems more.. hungry for the 'relationship' to be on.. She's the ones waxying lyrical about Ranbit at all places.. the one caught gazing at him adoringly whilst he looks disinterested..

@underlined; not fake.. truly engagement.. with the idea being : Rishi would be happy his son is finally settling down..and with a Top Actress.. the Bhatts also being happy for the Kapoor surname/

-and second underlined: again, if they all agree an engagement would all make look good.. rather than a 'live in' relationship.. cannot see the Kapoors saying no to an Actual engagement.

And the Bhatts (soni especially) also seem to push this... 'couople' thing..

And engagememnt would also give a good solution: they could pretend to be 'nearly getting married'... And if later they broke an engagement it wouldn't look as bad as .. say.. a divorce.

Engagements are not easy to break either, especially in India, where families get involved. Kapoors are prideful, they are not going to take it lightly if a girl breaks up with their son. And it'll bring bad publicity for Ranbir if he's the one to leave.

For Kapoors, there is no point of engagement if marriage is not happening. They are smart enough to see through the fakeness of Kjo. They know Alia will not get married before 5 years from now(at least).

So you think they will wait for RK turning 40 only for Alia? and even that is not confirmed whether she'll marry him or not after that.

If they are really concerned for Ranbir settling down, they'll look for a girl who is serious about commitment.

Last but not the least, Ranbir himself is not going to do anything with Alia no matter how much parental pressure is there. He might agree for marriage but not with Alia. Even now he looks disinterested and going through all this only because of film promotions.

I think Kapoors can break engagements easily, I mean Karishma walked away from being a Bachchan Bahu and it didnt affect the Kapoor's at all as Kareena/Ranbir became stars after.

@bold : I wouldn't bet on that. I truly think SHE would marry him..IF he said yes. She's 26-27 now...

blue: didn't know in India engagements are seen as 'solid' as a marriage. In West you can be engaged 5-6 times..or more.. but tend to marry just the once.. ( more if a celeb...or social climber)

red: he is 37 this year. So he is gonna either break up with her soon or marry her... there's not much time to 40..3 years.

Why you think Alia will marry Ranbir? Just because she has a crush on him? We too have many crushes in our life, but we don't end up marrying them. Alia knows its not her time to get married. She's not getting married before 30, and that also if she fades out.

She might not marry until reaching 35 if she manages to remain at top, or atleast be in the race. And that's more likely as shelf life of actresses have increased in Bollywood. You can see Deepika, Sonam, Anushka getting married at 34-35.

So its not confirmed that she'll marry him when he turns 40. I wrote 40 as a benchmark as its considered late for even actors to marry at that age. Maybe it can stretch to Ranbir waiting till 45. You think that's gonna happen?

Yes, engagements are a big deal, because in India its a union between two families, not just the couple. Bollywood might be progressive regarding this, but Kapoors are not.

Ranbir is not mumma's boy like this forum thinks. Otherwise he would never have gone for live-in with Katrina. He dumped her because he was over her and and was never serious about commitment. He'll not agree to marry Alia. Even if he somehow does, Alia will not.

Yeah but it was a real engagement, not a fake one. And it was Abhishek who called off the marriage.
