I don't see any outsider coming over to Congress in the near future. It is going to be among the nepo kids only so why don't they choose someone who is better than Raga to be a face of the party? I feel the distrust people have on the current congress will come down if it's someone else than RaGa.

@bold- But that's true for every party right? People still support their favourite despite their wrongdoings or involvement of scams. I don't think people care about that much. Otherwise someone like Pragya Thakur wouldn't have been leading now.

Congress might have deeper problems but I strongly feel the country's disapproval of the party is because of RaGa more than anything else.

Bit of a rant here. So I apologize.

I thought you meant RaGa should be replaced by Scindia or Pilot. Yes RaGa is why people are unwilling to vote for Congress. He symbolises what people hate about Congress. The elitism, the nepotism. Replacing RaGa with more scions would not solve anything. Mocking Modi for being a Chaiwala or Chowkidaar is the problem. Poor people see it as a mockery of themselves. It's similar to how Sibbal and company used to mock the protestors. I think Sibbal said something like remove us in 2014 elections if you think we are so bad, but right know we are the MPs or whatever. It's that elitism that is partially responsible for Congress's disconnect. And they need to radically change for that. I don't see that happening and sadly, if it doesn't, we will only have a weak opposition.

Somebody like Pragya Thakur should have never been allowed in elections. I guess they thought someone as ridiculous as her could play off someone like Digvijay Singh. But it's a stupid decision. But yes, she wins because people vote for Modi or against Congress.

I think in the end, the urban section votes for Modi because of the lack of choice. If not Modi, who.

Why the rural section votes for Modi. That's something that needs to be explored. And I really think that has nothing to do with the Hindu-Muslim, Caste Politics the politicians in both BJP and Congress like to play. Otherwise the minorities would not have come out and voted for him. I remember from my trip for Kumbh in early February, I thought plastering Modi's face around was quite ridiculous and vain. But the auto-walas and street vendors and local police, would unforced talk about how much Modi has done for them in terms of infrastructural and social development. Things that I take for granted, they had just started recieving. That is why I think Modi got this wave. Not because of economics or politics, because of what tangible things he has given to the masses.

elitism is congress's biggest problem. Since it's beginning. When kadambini Ganguly spoke there as a representative of first women group going to congress, she was stopped by a very famous congress member ,I was shocked hearing his name n was told we don't HV time for women's pivotal issues. Same happened to poor people's issues in adjacent sessions. It's been a problem since beginning. My history sir said it was an organization of elite rich men,who didn't understand what terrible hunger or fear of being treated like an object was.not underestimating it's part in freedom fight though

600 million people voted in these elections and BJP won more than two-thirds majority on its own steam. Is it numerically possible to get a two-thirds majority, if only Hindus were voting for BJP? And remember, the Hindus in India are fragmented into groups and sub-groups, into caste and sub-caste lines. Traditionally, BJP has been the party that has represented the upper class Hindu's, who form the tiniest portion of the voter demographic. Where have the other votes come from? Who is the second biggest vote bank in India after Hindu's? So if, the Hindu's have voted for the wrong people to come into power, then so have the Muslims, the Sikhs, the Jains, the Christains, the Dalits, the OBC's, the Jat's, the Yadav's, the SC & ST's.

And even then, people accuse BJP and specifically Modi of being a divisive force. If anything, he has brought together India like no one else before. He has brought together people, cutting across caste, religion, economic strata and delivered a mandate that has only been delivered twice before in the history of India.

It's completely understandable that those who were opposing BJP and Modi are devastated and barely able to process the truth that is going to stare at them for the next five years.

Smriti can be an inspiration. A good loser always has a chance to improve and become a winner eventually. The one who panics and does not accept the loss can never win as they never work on the shortcomings.

She has been persistent. I will give her that.

Congress was bribing everyone for votes, my colleagues whose families stay in the remote areas, gave this info.... one hails from the border village of Orissa, there congress worker takes the elderly inside and votes for them. Its obvious that worker will give each vote for congress only....

Congress leeched India of its blood for so many years, they are worse then BJP

Na toh aap logon ko is governance se koi farak padega na hi koi bhugtan hoga. Wahan baithe sukh suvidhayein mil rahi hai aur yahaan hum bhugte aur crticize karein toh we are pseudo liberals and aaptards and what not. Arey itna khush ho toh yahaan aayo, zindagi bitaayo hamare jaise and enjoy the new wave of nationalism in the country. Why should only we desis have all the fun? 😆

Passport to abhi bhi India ka hai. Indian constitution gives me authority. They even gave Adhar Card last year.

Haq se celebrate kar sakte hai. Congratulate kar sakte hai sabko. And apologies for not voting. Even then I would have voted for BJP so inka margin badh jata. Jyada kuch farak nahi padne wala tha.

Ha jo American passport le chuke hai.. unko bol sakte ho bethne ko.. 😆

This is just ridiculous. NRIs haven't voted....the desis have voted and done so happily.

Desis are having plenty of fun thanks going by the euphoria. What is your post even supposed to mean. That india missed such a golden chance to become a paradise by not voting for the Congress or something?

And stop with the shade on the desis NRIs and indians. As If india is in such dire straits that you're suffering living here. Or maybe you're suffering....then find a solution for your problems.we desis are very happy as it is.

What's sour in that? Isn't it logical? If you genuinely believe that the country is progressing under the current governance and is taking India forward and creating job opportunities, shouldn't you come back to India because that's why you left India at the first place? For a better career growth and a good living standard? If NRI's are happy that India is back at providing the same what's the point of living abroad? Since they love the new phase of nationalism under the current governance and support it too? Is that too much for ask for? Why contribute in brain drain when you can come back to your country and help it grow? Isn't that the vision of the current Government? Why not help them in achieving the same by coming back and contributing to the welfare of the country you were born in? Where does the 'deshbhakti' disappear all of a sudden when giving up of citizenship is spoken about for NRIs?

So you guys can sit there abroad and spew shit on people who actually LIVE IN INDIA and criticize the government they have chosen but just a mention of 'Why don't NRIs come back to India?' and oooh why so sour?😆 Atleast we people here live in the country, pay our taxes diligently and as a part of a democratic country exercise our right to comment, criticize and question every Government that comes to power. Yet NRIs feel they have the birthright to poke their nose into every business happening in the country they have long given up on for a better future. Sorry if it sounds harsh but it's true! You all have left the country for your benefit so have no right to abuse people who actually live in this country and are questioning the government.

And I already live in the country of my dreams. The country in which I have exercised my right to vote and my right to live. India. I don't need a Visa to leave that country and go somewhere else for a better life. I've made the choice to stay back and am very proud of that.😃

Also I just realized that all of this argument has reached a moot point now because NRIs can't even vote for the party that they are cheering about right now on social media. Uske liye bhi vaapas India aana padega.😆
