Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat is a week away from release and fans have been closely watching the development. While the trailer has created quite a lot of buzz, the film's songs also have been quite liked by the audiences. The film has been making news even before it went on floors due to the involvement of Priyanka Chopra who was initially going to play Katrina Kaif's role. Recently at the song launch of Zinda, Salman had abrupty said "Thank you, Priyanka!" right after Katrina Kaif's answer on being asked how she got on board.
While it seemed like a dig at the now global star, in a recent interview Salman opened up about his true intentions behind the comment. Salman told Mumbai Mirror, "Thank you, Priyanka! I will always be thankful to her. Bharat was about to go on the floors and just five days before the shooting, Priyanka meets me and says that she wouldn’t be able to work in the film. Now, if Priyanka hadn’t left Bharat, how could we have brought Katrina on board?”
It is a known fact that Priyanka had quit the film to get married to Nick Jonas in December 2018. The superstar added that she (Priyanka) was offered a meaty role. However, "She chose to play the role of a wife, which is even more beautiful. But Katrina is not playing the role of a wife and hence she is playing the character in Bharat." the report quoted the 53-year-old actor as saying.
Salman pointed out that it was commendable that the Quantico star chose marriage over films. He said, “While many would give anything for the film or maybe even leaving their husband, Priyanka left the film.” He also revealed that the makers of the film were willing to adjust the dates but Priyanka had 'just come to deliver the news and in no way would get convinced'.
Bharat is slated to hit the screens on June 5.
