I am not a super big judge of good of technicalitys of acting, but I find her very very good in her roles and a nice performer, I actually i find her to be best in the roles (Minus kalank)

but almost all the critics praise her very highly..so is that not best?

if she is not the best, than what is the best? b/c if critics praise her like she best..I will believe no?

But I understand your point of view...no arguing, just debate :)

Overlooking the hypothetical scenario of whether she wud hv made it despite Dharma etc.

I find Alia a Brilliant actress too. People are jealous bcoz of how easily and quickly she got everything. Critical Acclaim, Commercial Success, Popularity, Big Banner films and even a Kapoor bf (however fake it maybe). So, it is obvious that she will be targeted. Now their biggest nightmare is if she wins National award too and some hv been running propaganda against her for the same.

It also does not help that Kjo does play dirty and does try to make her overshadow others. He is actually hurting her in more ways than one. All his PR gimmicks of linking her to every costar clearly is having a emotional effect on her. Which was seen when she was walking with Sid, Ranbir and Varun to meet the PM. I think for her own good, she needs a break from Dharma for sometime.

For me she was best in Udta Punjab. Neither Highway nor Raazi impressed me.. she just seemed average there.. even annoying , TBH in Raazi.. her 'acting' left a lot to be desired for me..her crying was so offputing and contrived!

She fits good in roles like Badri... or hyper 'cray cray' ones like Gully Boy.

As for Kalank... the less it is said the better. She is the main cause the movie is that big of a mess.

If I'd rate actresses, I'd say she's a 6 or 7... neither bad nor extra good.

Acting wise. I'd rate Radhika Apte and Bhumi above her(from newer lot). Taapsee maybe even, too (yet not totally convinced). Shraddha is as good as her- though she isn't as hyped.

IF I had to get one of the 'new girls' to represent India... I'd probably choose Radhika- she has shown more versatility. Bhumi is starting to get some good roles in that vein, too..but has very few movies (again, she has no chance to showcase her talent, she got only 4-5 movies, cause she's not KJo's main fave to get as many BIG movies -and 'meaty' roles- handed to her).

Re critics: everyone can see some of those are paid. It's ridiculous, the way they go on about her. I don;t listen to critics- I make my own mind about actors. Also, some critics might favour her cause they.. dunno.. have some connect with her fam?? or want a nepo kid to be big?? No clue.. but that's a person's opinion, so it's subjective..and critics in BW can be ..'swayed'..

I think she would have been successful or at least not as unsuccessful as other star kids are because she is driven by nature. Or that's what we've been told. She is ambitious and hardworking and driven. So, those things always work in people's favour. She might have become quite successful BUT she wouldn't be anywhere near the kind of stardom she has right now. And no way as soon as she got it. She's got to a high level very quickly. And that is totally due to all the privilege she has for being a Dharma girl.

Sid is a very limited and honestly a mediocre actor. Alia is GOOD.

She would have been successful, but it would have taken a bit longer and even then she wouldn't have had (or been in the running for) at least half a dozen films on her plate (and all with potential of huge critical and/or commercial success) at any given point of time.

Opportunities that can make a decent actor be perceived as a really good one is also important. That's where KJo has MADE Alia's career. With the DZs and Highways and Raazis.

For example, Kriti is decent. She starred in Heropanti which was more of Tiger's launch vehicle and all about showing him being macho and the "savior" . It didn't exactly do Kriti any good in terms of helping her "prove" that she can do a good job if given a better script and role. She had to wait quite a bit till she got a Bareilly ki Barfi. She has hinted quite a few times that she has had to choose the best she can from the opportunities that were available to her

Compare that to Alia. Her debut was SOTY2. The plot was lame, characters were cliched and mostly about the boys. How long did Alia have to wait to get a Highway?

She has NEVER had to wait to get that next GOOD role. Because of Karan Johar. Her rise has been meteoric for this reason. She may have been successful even without him but definitely not to this extent before turning 25.

That Alia Bhatt genius of the year was pretty entertaining. I think she would have survived 😎

She is talented and a good acress. She is doing sadak 2 with her father, so if she didnt debut with karan..she would have gotten a launch like sadak 2 anyway and probably made a name for herself based on talent no?

Oh , with the way the industry seems to be resentful of her and how she has been inserted into not just Dharma projects but any project that catches her fancy (and KJo makes it happen) , I think people would have shown less disdain towards her if she was just launched by her dad, and done films directed or produced by her dad . Atleast then, it would have been within her family and no one would be bitchy about her monopolizing everything.

backed by a production house,a filmmaker and a godfather

who chose her scripts and recommend her to top directors

her chance to fail is 0% 😆

Aloo is smart she knew that one day her own banner Vishesh films shall land on the brink of bankruptcy which is actually happening..once the most successful banner that kept churning one project now making tv shows n films like jalebi which obviously urmm..sank without a trace. If she had started her career with her home production she definitely would have ended up like her sister Pooja..it was imp 4 her to make her way into a banner that can secure her future. See kalank n soty 2 tanked but the fact remains that ppl usually love kjo stuff..so aloo secured her part there..as for Sadak2 she is working in it to revive vishesh films which she can as she now has the power and support.
