The story of Tulsidasji..

Vlamiki's Ramayan has been translated into many languages but the most famous and impact full has been Ramcharit Manas. It is read and worshipped with great reverence in many Hindu homes in northern India. Many of its verses are popular proverbs. His doctrine actually forms the most powerful religious influence in present-day Hinduism. He is everywhere accepted as both poet and saint, an inspired and authoritative guide in religion and the conduct of life.

But he was not like this always. He was a brahmin by birth but neither a poet nor a saint in his initial life. There is an incident that changes his life and he became one of the greatest poet of bhakti kaal. It is said that tulsidas was madly in love with his wife Budhhimati(Ratnawali). He could not bear even a day's separation from her. One day his wife went to her father's house without informing her husband. Tulsidas stealthily went to see her at night at his father-in-law's house. This produced a sense of shame in Buddhimati. She said to Tulsidas, "My body is but a network of flesh and bones. If you would develop for Lord Rama even half the love that you have for my filthy body, you would certainly cross the ocean of Samsara and attain immortality and eternal bliss". These words pierced the heart of Tulsidas like an arrow. He did not stay there even for a moment. He abandoned home and became an ascetic. He spent fourteen years in visiting the various sacred places of pilgrimage. This wandering and pilgrimage changed his life and he became a devout Ram Bhakt and went on to write RamCharit Manas and many other books.

While surfing the net I came across this beautiful poem in hindi written by Seema Sachdev. This poem beautifully depicts the incidents where buddhimati aka ratnawali scolds tulsidas for his obsessive love and the transformation that takes place in him. I liked it thought of sharing it with u guys. I am posting it as it is, in hindi. Though its long but I hope u guys will like it.
