Priyanka Chopra bats for all South-Asian cast in her HWfilm production

Its a romantic comedy that goes back to a big wedding in India & the thought of it came from my wedding. I want to be able to have an all South Asian cast in a Hollywood film. We're still writing but we'll shoot it next year: @priyankachopra on the film she’s producing with Mindy

There was a studio bidding war for this movie and Universal won. Hopefully Universal doesn't meddle too much and Priyanka's able to get her all South-Asian cast, maybe we'll see some familiar faces.

nice . pc produce more regional indian cinemas n take it to Oscars , cannes etc... take indian cinema to d international stages .

Goodness. I hope it's not Bride and Prejudice level cringyass ness. And can these firaangi desis stop doing the same Indian wedding related stories. Are there no other brown women stories or desi love stories without grand OTT Indian weddings as the cliche. Ugh.

Also I hope it's not Crazy Rich Asians in desi bottle. That's done.

I agree .. The premise of "going back to Indian wedding" is already giving me a been-there-done-that vibe. I seriously hope it is not one of those cliched stories of ABCD falling in love with "I-Love-My-India" Desi which ends in them getting married in a palace in Rajasthan amidst a song-and-dance montage.

Same. There's more to desi people than lavish weddings. By repeating those cliches again and again they just pander to the western thought of Indian Wedding depicted as a colorful circus.

Studios having a bidding war for an all South Asian film and Universal picking it up is a big deal in itself. Maybe wait for the film or at least the trailer before judging how the subject will be dealt with.

It would be pretty exciting to have a movie with an all South Asian star cast. Crazy Rich Asians made me so happy last year. I hope the story doesn’t play into stereotypes and cliches though and depicts the different layers and perspectives of the South Asian community. A lot of movies with South Asian characters end up mocking the culture or depicting a very narrow, stereotypical lens and so it would be refreshing to have a mature, real take and still be funny. However, I have to hand it to Priyanka. I thought she was crazy and seemed really wannabe when she went to Hollywood and sang those cringe-y songs and some of her interviews (🙄) but from getting a protagonist role on a prime time drama to getting such international recognition and using it to broaden avenues has been incredible. I am so proud of her for paving her way and creating a niche for herself.

By South Asians, She means just Indians or Pakistanis, Bangladeshis as well?

I don't think PC is that ..silly.. to do such things ( but you never lknow).

Anyhow.. I hope she does a good movie.
