What's the purpose of doing WEB-SERIES?

Bollywood Actors who are now stepping into digital space, I just have one question that what's really the strong purpose behind doing web series?

Unlike a Film or a TV show where its commercial success can be measured through box office and TRP's, Web Series just acts like advertisements. You can't measure their power of success or failure. They are available for Binge watching and you can watch them anywhere anytime. It's just like an advertisement on YT.

Also, unlike YT the producers of these series do not promote like we got so and so views. Their base mode of revenue are advertisments placed on the series by publishers. But that's for the site they are placed on, how can it be seen from the perspective of success or failure.

Also, you have some critics who would review such series and review them on their sites but that does not stand for its commercial status. So what's the point of doing digital for bollywood actors whose markets gets affected by hits or flops. I don't think such series can really affect someone's career so what's the point? Is it all about something better than nothing.

However, I'm not totally against the concept. I loved how Indie Artists who find it really hard in movies or TV have made digital space their own, and its really beneficial for them. But for bollywood actors, where stakes are high, this seems a bit jarring to me... Thoughts?

your answer lies in your thread...

something's better than NOTHING

Web Series shall save a lot of actors from unemployment..i heard even tusshar kapoor and mallika sherawat are doing a web series BINGO !

it will give them work : besides earlier it was used to be tough for actors to find work but not anymore..if not TV and films, web series is a safe option

Not everything needs to be judged by success or failure.

Anyway people eventually get to know if a show clicked. Like Made in Heaven did even though we do not have any metric to measure it.

but most of these web series r youth centric and they have sort of abuses and sex scenes which's not everyone's cup of tea. So does that mean more people would watch their show but at the end how can we eventually find if they did well or not

of course success or failure is important..this is a shrewd industry. the fact made in heaven was talked about because it was made by Zoya Akhtar who got easy publicity after the success of Gully Boy had it been an unknown director it must have been like any binge watch series.

the point i want to make is that web series can't take you to the top. say Arjun Mathur the actor, he aint gonna big work in bollywood because he's not saleable here...just like Ranveer wouldn't do a web series as he's doing great in Bollywood. Even Sid M considers Web Series nothing against movies (watch his old interview)

Flop good for nothing actor like KSG does this kind of web series that had been away from onscreen for long time. It's a safe play nowadays because there is no hit or flop for it. He had been out of onscreen for 4 years and he need to do something to get back to onscreen. Same with other flop jobless actors. Sanaya also had been away from onscreen for sometime and she did some web series to come back.

When no one's giving you a movie, it's a better route to take.

Web series was made by berozgaar, for berozgaars and their berozgaari.
