I carried my dadi's chappals a lot of times. Point is in South Indian weddings when you have to go on mandap u need to leave your shoes. There are chances of shoes getting lost too I lost my sandals many times in weddings. So someone or the other holds it for you. I have seen a lot of times my brothers holding their wives' shoes handbag etc be it outside temple or in weddings
