Vidushi was tired. She could feel it in her bones. It exhausted her, the weight of being alive and yet, having nothing to live for. Disowned, divorced and demeaned.
But she had graduated from FITE and found a well paying job. She had cut ties with everyone from her past.
A small spark of hope dared to make a home in her chest.
However, soon she was consoling herself for a whole different reason.
She tightened the scarf around her neck, as if it would somehow make her invisible even as she found herself watching him from the corner of the eyes. She'd already spotted three places she could rush off to if he so much as turned in her direction.
She shouldn't have bothered.
Because the next minute his face lit up like she had never seen before, a genuine smile changing his familiar features right before her eyes as a girl wrapped her arms around him.
The pang she felt shattered her carefully built defense like the mirage that it had always been.
Bury herself in something mundane yet big enough to erase the voices in her head. The fashion magazine she had bought with her was not cutting it. The reading glasses made her look like a different person she was told.
Maybe she would feel like a different person too.
She took to opening her laptop and drowning herself in the familiar rhythms of the spreadsheets.
