Kriti Sanon UPSET over Full Credit given to Karthik for LC's Success

In an industry which should thrive on gender fluidity because of equal opportunities, there is still gender disparity that's visible from every archaic lens.

Recently, after the success of her film 'Luka Chuppi', Kriti Sanon, the lead actress, spoke about how the entire credit for the film went to the lead male actor Kartik Aaryan and it seemed absolutely unfair. According to her Kartik was lauded for bringing the audience to the theatre to watch the film and she said this is always the case where the male actor steals the show mostly, when the female has an equal part to play for the success of the film.

"This business of overlooking the leading lady has been going on for a while and it's so unfair. I am glad this conversation is finally happening." she told a leading entertainment publication in an interview.

"It's logical to talk about only the male protagonist when the leading lady doesn't have a lot to do, but when they are both carrying a film on their shoulders, the credit should be equally shared. Everybody deserves a mention," she added.

The actress had fair points to address because they've been visible since the genesis of the industry. For the success of every movie, the male actor is always brought forward for his commendable work, while the actress is criticised for what she was wearing or how she carried herself out in the movie, completely objectifying her, istead of paying heed to her acting prowess. It's time we change the dialogue of how we perceive our films and make them more gender equal when we talk about them, especially if the actor and actress both have an equal role in the movie.

Kriti also spoke about gender pay disparity in Bollywood and said it needs to be equal to set a good example to the country.

"Actors are also paid more than their female counterparts in Bollywood. Remuneration should be in sync with two things your role in the film and your capacity to pull in the audience. There have been instances in the past when actresses have been paid more than their hero, She opened about disparities in gender pay in Bollywood with a popular entertainment publication.

I think Kriti is certainly moving talks towards a more progressive standpoint. Equal pay has been a fight in our country since long and if an industry like Bollywood demonstrates it within their own realm, it will set a good example for other industries to make equal pay more sustainable and possible.
