Mere haath se tere haath ka sangam
Meri dhadkan se teri dhadkan ka milan
Pehenkar anguthi banja tu mera sajan
Amongst pomp and joyous jousts, their friends filled the space with teasing words and dances. Because their journey was finally becoming their's. They were embarking on the first step to becoming each other's. Dressed in red, Sameer's Naina walked upto him blushing with the promise her ring finger bore. Their dream had blossomed into a wondrous reality. He grasped at her hand to grasp at his badalti zindagi.
As they exchanged wedding bands, their hearts were in the eyes of the world: proclaimed as each other's.
Haath choota
saath choota
magar tere ashk mere zehan se nahi choote
What began as an evening of celebration with her decked to the nines in the saree he had picked out for her, ended with two broken hearts and tear filled eyes. On the one hand where they could only see each other and he could only think of being with her; of feeling the touch of her love. Their families bit at each other's throats like two snakes coiled together fighting. As her hand was wrenched away from his: he felt his life slip out of his hands. How would they mend what was broken? Would they lose each other forever?
Relations had changed, the insults were injury to them both. But perplexed as they stood together, that fear of losing each other continued to tear them up from inside. In the midst of this engulfing fear, Sameer found himself once again deceived by those who he considered his own.
Range the hum ek doosre ke rang mein
Tha woh tab din suhaana
Khushiyon se jagmagaye the chehre
Haldi ka woh din bankar aaya khazana
It all kickstarted with the haldi. Simply dressed they longed to see each other but remained separate. Their faces glowing with pure beauty brought on by the magic of true love. "Haldi ke rang se shagun hua hai ab dekhna agla rang laal hoga". Spoken long ago, these colours were already embedded in their souls but came forth to the world as they both were coloured by the serene yellow. All set to make their skin rejuvenate for a new journey. Washed off , they would now only dress up for each other, decorate for each other, will be the owners of colours for each other. Because she brought colours to his life many moons ago when she fell for him at first sight and gifted him with new shades of life, he would now bring colours to her's by making her his most cherished queen. Rangrasiya ab aur humesha ke liye.
Naam jo tera apne haathon par tha maine likha
Aaj mehendi se woh sajaega mere haathon ki rekha
Those hands that had at one point held the pen to bring across the message of love for each other: sometimes in form of two taps, sometimes in notes, sometimes in the form of cake or sweater, and sometimes as letters to carry warmth across distances. Those hands had borne each other's name long before they even realised they were meant to be. It all started with her dupatta entangled on the wounded, blooded lines of his hand. She was meant to be his destiny long before destiny made them meet. For four years since, they had cherished this dream and when that day came they sat in different corners of the city connected through their joyous hearts. 'Sameer' and 'Naina': their names sat encased in beautiful filigree of henna that grew darker by the minute with the heat of their palms. Bearing them as proud official stamps as they were truly each other's.
Thirakte kadam aur humari ladakhadati dhadkan
Haath thamkar jashn manaye kal ke yeh dulha dulhan
The night before marriage and a new yearning began. She stepped into the arena of her and Sameer's future house for the first time. Seeing the palace he had built for her, the way he had envisioned welcoming her to the lap of luxury and that's what she could see all around. The dream he had had forever but dared to only dream when he found her. The vow he had made all those years ago when she had entered the eligible age. The dream of their own house, their own world: a peaceful abode where only their love will abide.
As she sat waiting outside for her hero, slightly miffed because he hadn't seen in her two days and was late to see her now. When she had dressed up and was urging for a glimpse of him. The situation tensed and whispers started but it all faded to black the moment he appeared. In that crowd of people all they could see were each other and their faces glowed because only one day remained to their union.
But of course, the tease she was she pinched him and raged at him already donning the guise of the wife. And he adored her as she rightfully pinched him and held him: knowing that if his plan works out then this woman would have the one thing she has always lacked in her life but never complained about because she always loved without conditions or expectations. First her father and then him.
Their joy doubled as Naina's father graced their sangeet. And with just one look Naina knew her hero had come through again. Understood her pain without her voicing it out, without even meeting her. Because it was that pain which united their souls deep. "Humare dard same to same hai". And this pain, their wounds became the foundation of their relationship as they set to complete their incompletions.
'Tak dhina dhin dhin Tak ' their hearts matched their footsteps as they danced together towards a future of beautiful togetherness which would be spent as "umar qaid ki saza meri baahon mein".
"Pyaar ka sapna saccha lagta hai"
From the issue of intercast marriage to the wrath of nature that rained on their wedding day, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. But they persevered through it all."Hum Jeet Gaye, Naina!" Fighting whatever came their way with their love; refusing to give up this time around. Because this time their forever was in their reach and they both grasped at it together refusing to let go. Because their love story was no less than a rebellion. It stirred up age old values of biradri and gave bela chachi the voice to speak, gave Preeti the will to fight for her behen, and it broke Naina from lifelong chains of Taiji and Tauji's bondage. A love like that which opened eyes and broke societal moulds deserved a grand culmination and celebration.
The baraat came with the hustle and bustle he had promised he would bring to their wedding eons ago when he first proclaimed he would marry her after Pooja Di's haldi ceremony. But it all froze for him and none of that mattered as he caught a glimpse of Naina- his bride. Decked in the colour that is most endearing to him on her: pink. "Duniya ki sabse sundar khidki"because the window opened to show him his world.
In that moment as they glanced at each other standing at the doorstep to their union, their eyes teared at the what they had faced and how far they had travelled to get here. In their long winding journey of four years they remembered every moment as if it was yesterday. The first twirl, Naina's love at first sight, the bet that changed their lives, the trip to mount abu where Sameer truly fell for Naina and broke her heart at the same time the tears Naina shed, their heartbreaks, their confessions, their separations. From Ahemdabad to Delhi to Ahemdabad "humare saath nahi chuta". Because neither distance nor they themselves could erase the bond their souls had forged. Bonds of pure love, utter devotion, friendship, adolescent growth, and the most unbreakable one: "dard ka rishta". Entwined through pain of abandonments and love they founded a world of their own.
Inn foolon ki khushboo se mehka hai humara aangan
Jo kabhi tha safed aaj rangon se bhar gaya hai woh daman
From the dream of adorning garlands around each other at Pooja's shaadi to doing it at their own shaadi with their friends and family as witness. A dream they both had dreamt together forged into reality. A declaration had been made that they had chosen each other and now no one can break the marriage apart. In front of the eyes of this world, they had made their choice to be one. Completing that vow which a broken hearted 17-year-old boy had made at the cusp of realisation: "hum toh kab ke ek ho chuke hai". And with that came devotion, maturity, responsibility and the strength to declare this union to all.
Humsafar tujhe pyaar karne ke liye saat janam bhi lagte hai kam
Ae firdaus mere, teri kasam iss pyar ki liye hi ab jiyenge hum
With chachaji, chachiji, and their friends (the only ones who have constantly supported them in their journey) the sacred fire was lit as Naina blossomed into a lady. Wearing the decked red saree symbolising her as his bride, she metamorphosed into a beautiful, confident woman who at once commanded the adoration of others even from the likes of Mamaji and Somani. One who would fight for not only her own but her chachaji's and Sameer's self respect. And every wound of her's would be mended by Sameer's touch and love just like she mends his. Their eyes witnessed as the sacred nuptial fire melted their souls together, forged them into one as pure liquid gold. The purest gem in this world just like their abode-Krishna Kaustubhi'.
Their eyes peered deeply into each other's; enraptured by the joy shining in them as they spoke their vows.
"Mai vachan deta hoon ki tan man dhan se mai tumhe jeevan ki sari khushiyan doonga"because he was hers mind body and soul. Everything of his was now officially her's. And he knew that coming from a middle class joint family, his woman has had to suppress her desires and restrict her free volition. But here he handed her the vow to be the air beneath her wings and he would try to fulfil her every wish.
"Mai Vachan deti hoonki tumhare ghar mein bado ka aur tumhara samman karoongi aur tumhare har sukh aur dukh mein tumhare saath rahoongi." Because she knew all he had lost in his life just to be here today, she promised him that she would mend those broken relations with her loving touch and respect. Recalling all those dark times when Sameer had been in Delhi alone and suffering from the tragic loss of his nanu, Naina made him realise that he no longer had to suffer alone. She would be there to smoothen the blow of his sufferings and wipe his tears for him and she would be there to laugh and dance at his happiness with him. Everything that Sameer has ever craved in his life would be given by her.
"Mai Vachan deta hoon ki kabhi bhi kisi bhi surat mein tumhara apmaan nahi karunga" Because for him her insult is his insult. Her pain hurts him a thousand times more than his own. He is that Sameer after all who respects Naina so much that he never tried to violate the sanctity of their love for his physical needs. He was the one who respected her for all she is to the extent he had said groom's side would have to give dahej for her. And he knew she has never felt truly respected in her house because of Tauji and Taiji. They have constantly degraded and demoralised her. Here, he promised that he would never do that to her, he would protect her dignity like the precious jewel it is.
"Mai vachan deti hoon ki tumse kabhi bhi kuch bhi nahi chupaungi" Because she knew Sameer loved her for her honesty and transparency. For her pure heart and simplicity which had made her confess things to him any other girl would have hidden. Incidents like her crying for lying to come to his party, her confessing about the lice in her hair to safeguard his, her declaration in Mount Abu that she never lies to him but lies for him. To him she is sacred and pure, the simplicity to his complications and the calm touch to his stormy nature.
"Mai vachan deta hoon ki tumhare alawa kisi aur stree ki taraf galat nazron se nahi dekhunga"because he is devoted in his love for her. Loyalty is what he wants and what he gives. An assurance that girls may look at him and desire him but he will always gaze at her and desire only her. That the world may throng her simple looks but to him she will always be the most beautiful. He was born to love her this way, to touch her like she would break, and desire her like every touch is the first everyday. A simultaneous subtle apology came wrapped up in this vow, seeking forgiveness for all those times he had flirted or been with any other girl to make her jealous. She will be his only to embrace and to desire.
And here her devars vowed that if he ever was disloyal to her they would not leave him because Naina was not just his dream girl but also there dream bhabhi. Who had taken care of them and protected their friendship when Sameer was in Delhi. Who had understood their importance in Sameer's life and not once asked him to make a choice between them. Because she preached love and friendship like Sameer did.
eik shayar ke khwab sa ranga maine tumhe sindoor se
eik chitrakar ke rachna sa nikhara maine tumhe iss roop se
tum ho woh pari jo chodkar apni kahani ke panne
likhegi mera afsana apne pyaar se
As he filled her maang and tied the 'NS' mangalsutra around her, all his dreams were fulfilled. Their names studded together, conjoined and fused in a setting of liquid gold forged through heat- no one can break them apart for eternity to come, they will always be united, not two souls but one.
The N before the S- no ego issues here because they are equal in this relationship. For Sameer, Naina will always come first. A constant reminder dangling from her neck that Naina will come first because she is his everything. She will come first for him, before himself, before life itself. His Naina truly became his with the promise that her every wish will be his command and her every success his happiness.
She would come into his lonely bland life and fill it with colors, warmth, laughter, banter, and immense beauty.
Mai' Tum' Pyaar' Parivaar' he had once voiced these words separately, unconsciously he was already weaving together a tale where she would be his love and his family. As a broken, abandoned teenager he had found his refuge, his every desire, all the love he has ever wanted in her. And now those words would no longer be spoken apart because it will now be: Mai, Tum aur humara pyara parivaar'. A story that was no longer just his and a house that was waiting for her to become home.
"Tum kis kahani ki pari ho, Naina? He had once asked himself as he spoke to the sweater she had weaved for him. Now he finally has the answer: tum meri kahani ki pari ho, Naina.
