Thirty-seven CRPF Jawans have been martyred and five are in hospital battling injuries, as per the most recent official statement put out by the CRPF at 12:07 am on Friday. The ghastly attack took place earlier that afternoon, as a car packed with over a hundred kilos of explosive material targeted a 70-vehicle-strong CRPF convoy transporting over 2500 personnel towards Srinagar on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The car-bomber devastated the CRPF vehicle it struck, resulting in the biggest terrorist attack on the forces in decades. The Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammad has taken responsibility for the attack.
The mortal remains of the martyred CRPF bravehearts are/were in Budgam will be air-lifted to Srinagar.
