Not exactly related to the show!

I don't know, if I'm even allowed to make a topic on something which isn't completely and directly related to the show, but, I think, this is the best platform to ask this question.

So, the question is, why do you all watch Indian TV shows? It's not a surprising fact that, Indian shows lack immensely in terms of quality. They're highly illogical and over the top dramatic. Usually aimed at housewives who can watch these shows while doing household chores. But, on India forums, there are many working people and students too. So, why do you all watch these shows, when there are many other great shows with quality content and based on reality are available online? Like, Foreign shows on netflix, Indian web series, etc.

Is it due to 'romance'? I have watched some 1 or 2 Indian TV shows and I watched them solely for the romance. Both were where the leads fall in love after the marriage and I like that kind of romance; 'unexpected'. One was with a significant age gap between the leads, which again, I have a thing for. And, I can hardly find such romance, i.e, 'unexpected' anywhere else. Yes, there are also some korean, turkish, etc shows and they aren't great too but, much better than the Indian shows. So, I do watch them sometimes to satiate my romantic fantasies. But there were hardly days when I did not cringe while watching Indian shows. One was 'Bade acche lagte hain' and the other one is currently on air, ' Guddan tumse na ho payega'. So, I watched BALH because, it started off well and appeared like a fresh mature story and my parents used to watch it initially. Also, I was 13 or 14, and hopelessly romantic at that time and balh wasn't that bad and illogical. As in, it was still bearable. So, that was the reason, I watched it. And, I came across GTNHP accidentally and liked the concept of people from two different generations forced in a marriage. So, thought of giving it a chance. Though, I think, I'll soon discontinue it.

So, I'm genuinely curious as to why people watch Indian shows when there are so many great shows available online? If it's only to satiate the romantic fantasies, there are again many better shows in the romance genre, available online. So, why do people still continue to watch such shows? Because, the audience watch such shows and give the makers great TRPs, they make such shows. That is why, good quality content with a mature storyline and real, relatable characters are not produced on Indian TV as people are happy watching those kind of shows and giving them TRPs. So, even when Indian makers try to come up with a good show, audience fails them. We had good shows in 90s but since then, Indian TV is only deteriorating and if this continues, the Indian TV scenario will never change.

So, a genuine question, why do you watch these shows? (Again, I asked this question here, as I think, this is the best platform to ask it.)

I can't even watch the show on TV, so I can't really contribute to TRP. Most of the people here are not part of the TRP audience 😆. Such shows will get TRP whether we watch it or not.

Can't speak of others but I'd tell you why I started watching. Well, I started KZK because of all the hype created. Was too young to see KZK1 and had no idea who the leads were even but I gave it a try. I stayed only cuz of the leads, their chemistry. Story is bullshit but these leads are too good to miss 😆

Before this I was watching SBRK and IMMJ on Colors. But I had to drop those as one replaced the female lead and the other became boring. So I don't really devote all my time and stay regular when it comes to watching. If the episodes are going good, I make sure I watch it on that day or the next day. Otherwise I watch during weekends, skipping unnecessary scenes 🥱

Like the first comment said, I only watch online. Most itv viewers who you see online mostly only watch online. It's easy given you can skip as many scenes as you like and only watch the ones of interest to you. That means usually I can finish one episode into 5-10 minutes, which proves how terrible they are.

Nice question 😊 Kasauti is the only daily soap I watch. And it has been a very very long time since I watched a show on a major GEC like star plus. Personaly speaking, for me there is a lot of nostalgia associated with the show. When the first season aired, I used to watch it with my grandfather. He used to be a big fan of all the K serials that were running on SP in the 2000s. So whenever I was at home these serials and its repeats would be running all day. Kyunki,Kahani, Kasauti, Kahin to hoga..I have watched all of these shows on and off. Even though these shows were all horrible the casting was spot on. Cezzane and Swetha's pairing(Anurag-Prerna in kzk1) was a rage then.So years later when Ekta announced KZK reboot I was a bit excited to know who was going to play Anurag and Prerna. Even then I did not think of watching the show but then I saw how gorgeous Parth and Erica looked together and couldn't stop myself from watching it. I knew it was going to be a bad show but then there was this nostalgia factor . No matter how nonsensical these shows are once you start watching them you became addicted to it.

I have been asked this question especially since I follow as you mention many other types of shows on other platforms. For me, soaps like ipk and kzk whether by design or universe conspiring, somehow get a deeper emotional connect...you feel the difference, yoyr heart beats and breaks for the lovers, you really want them to be together, you feel their angst, so much so that you ignore all the mediocrity, all the editing and all other flaws. After ipk and the way it ended, I had not got myself involved so much in another soap but with kzk it gives me the same feeling of an inevitable pull.
So in short, can't speak for everyone but I watch only when I connect deeply with the lead pair'' emotions. And yes I watch only romance in Indian TV ...all tgetother genres, they dont do anything else that is worth a watch.

I as well watch the shows only on online platforms

I have watched few TV shows before like yeh rishta , kuch rang but I have never followed any show by every episode. It always used to be on and off randomly.

Kzk is the only show that I have been following quite regularly and the reason I feel is the way Anurag and prerna's relation has been shown so far in the show, it has an emotional touch and I also like how it has been portrayed by Erica and parth. It's adorable
Another show where I have felt a kind of connect to the pair was swaragini (swara and Sanskar) though it had one of the horrible storylines
So yes, I watch for such nuances and emotional connect in the show

Nevertheless I admit I have a kind of girl crush on Erica after seeing her as Prerna 😆

I used to watch serials since childhood when I was 11...Actually u need some entertainment so u watch tv n these serials r tym pass...
Once I was I in job I watched tv for 1 hr just to have some entertainment n tym pass...

Basically it is about time pass only...
But when serials r really gng gud it becomes ur addiction...

If u catch some episodes by chance then u might take interest n u can't live without watching...

I watched many serials but now whenever the serials bores me I leave dat halfway n start something new...

Yes now a days there is a lot of content on internet so u don't need to watch the stuff u don't like..Although there r many shows running on tv as well so there is also option for u...

Basically watching it for time pass and having some interest...

Mostly serials r good at start so when u start watching u take interest n dat is how u continue doing it...
My many frends still watch yeh rishta ..Although they don't have any interest but as a loyal viewer they want to watch n it becomes a daily routine habit...
ITv is very important part of my life...I really enjoy while watching it..Emotions,romance I feel happiness..

I don't have much interest in kzk but I was Ekta show fan plus Parth is dere so I m watching it for Parth...

I follow IB n yhm but on internet..
U can just skip unnecessary scenes n show will be completed in 5 mins only...
Sometimes u watch it for time pass but later on it becomes ur addiction so even if u don't have tym u manage it somehow...

Everyone wants entertainment..Be it student or employees...Or house wives..
It is ntg lyk housewives don't have work so they do watch...

Bottom line is everyone is watching serials for some entertainment only...

Very valid question. Im a working woman...and i do not contribute to the TRP in anyway, as i always watch KZK2 on hotstar, mostly during my leisure time.
So the reason why i started watching it was the hype that was created. I have never watched KZK1 and had no idea of how long it ran or what that story was.
Also another reason are the leads, i have watched few episodes of their respective previous shows online, and i liked them. Also i like their chemistry.

There is only one show i watch on TV and that is YUDKBH. the timing suits me and i just love that story and the leads have awesome chemistry. Maybe also due to the fact that its based on the producers real life love story.

I hardly watch any show on TV.
I have only watched Bade Achche Lagte Hain and Kuch Rang Pyaar ke Aise Bhi (Erica's first show).
Like you mentioned about BALH, I started watching these two shows because their promos were like a breath of fresh air. Honestly speaking, when I started watching KRPKAB, I wasn't expecting much from it. I thought I would stop after few months when the romance part stops. But I was glued to it, and how!

Regarding KZK2, I started watching because of Erica.
I was hoping to see some sense in an Ekta show, but I was disappointed and I have already stopped watching it.
I only come to IF for the written updates sometimes and of course the member's conversations in this forum. They make so much more sense than the show ⭐️

PS: I am a working women and I only watch the online contents and web series 😊
