The Never Changing Hero-Heroine

Indian television has like many stories in the romance genre , a difficulty in accepting a hero , who can be a decent person. Radhe Lal Shukla may not have been educated, he may not have been the brightest bulb in the room, but the fact that he loved sincerely could not be disputed.

Alas the CV's have preconceived notion that the only type of hero we like are the rude, misbehaving, narcissistic, control freaks. Oh yes, he has a tragic past to justify all that he does. Dr Veer Sahay might be a brilliantly skilled surgeon but he is not much of a good human being or someone worth being a loverand Krishna should actually be running away as far and as fast as possible from him. But then again the typical Indian female lead lacks brains and Krishna is no different.

I am well acquainted with the fact that Indian mini screen is all about TRP and I guess the present pairing is bringing that in. But in all honesty, the channel is churning out crap in the name of progression. It would be progression if we can see Krishna making it on her own, completing her degree and become a successful physician. It would to progression to see that she can stand on her own two feet without needing a man ( certainly not one as egotistical as Dr Sahay). It would be progression to see nothing more than amicable bond between Dr Sahay and Krishna , nothing more than a cordial friendship.

I know that's not gonna happen and also that I probably have earned the ire of many in this forum but to me misbehaving with someone (well aware that Krishna lodged an unfair complaint against Dr Sahay but she has also repeatedly apologized for the same) just because you can (Dr Sahay has no solid reasons- expect a suspicion that she has signed documents preventing his return, he can easily investigate on that matter and given his lofty education at least behave more gentlemanly) does not make you a hero. It makes you an imbecile. One women should actively avoid.

We cannot dent that visual media does not make an impression. So while that's the case, why don't makers make more effort to show some actual progression.

Would love to know your view points .
Also please note that all of my comments are for the CHARACTERS and not the ACTORS. I respect the actors while firmly believing that we can criticize the characters . Keep your comments graceful ladies.

Thank you for putting the real thing here.Wel needed this kind of a thread.

I was thinking why this show before radhey's leap had low TRPs and there were barely fan accounts regarding this show.My ammu used to watch the show before. She always have been wanting me to be a doctor and KCL attracted her.Initially, she followed dehlez and as Far as I heard once upon a time she used to watch partigya and many more like this. Then i observed that the show she watches always have a early ending or should I say ending at a point where Actually TRP viewers find it boring and spiceless. Then I gave it a try and I got it that the mentioned shows r far above melodramas and all the nonsensical crap like manhandling.

And this is not at all Director's fault As they will give what audience prefer to watch. And TRP audience r still stuck to that era where men r bound to be the protector and women have to be like some helpless object.FRAWN!!

Here comes the reason KCL wasn't having TRP and now All the fandoms r like Our fav hero has entered and I have started watching the show for him.

I will admit that I am loving the new pairings. But never wanted them to be deviated from the actual KCL story!!

I think web series these days are catering to such progressive shows. Youtube or even some of altbalaji. As far as tv goes the majority likes what is being dished out. Personally I too enjoy watching it on tv and I have the capacity to differentiate reel life from real life and just enjoy the DRAMA now. One of my favvy drama was roshni mentally stimulating but was scrapped bcoz of no spice. I do not consider myself an uneducated TRP class and i do not appreciate men trying to overpower women in real life. But on screen I actually like watching something exciting.

It all boils down to perspective, doesn't it? It depends on how one sees a portrayal or a story that is being told. You see that creatives are perhaps trying to bring Veer into Krishna's life from an intimate standpoint and that it should be nothing more than a cordial friendship. While this may be true, it cannot also be disregarded that often love flourishes people and encourages people to chase their desires and dreams. It will only benefit Krishna in the long run, since she will have strong support. Yes, we should all aim to become independent and stand on our own feet, but this is possible still by being in a relationship. Lovers can teach each other that should a time ever come where they can't be together, they can continue to exist on their own in a way where all of their possibilities are utilised. We can already see that Veer has many viewes where he believes that one should not be an Abla Nari, but be strong! Krishna already has these views, but she is obviously remaining silent because she is at a point in her life where she does not too much drama. She is preoccupied with her own thoughts and feelings, possibly. Maybe, the creatives can showcase that Veer helps Krishna utitlise all her possibilities and then fall in love. It just so happen that Veer is a man - so I understand that the feminist in all of us might outcry - but, what if instead of Veer it was a woman who was helping Krishna come back to real self? Would that still not be a case where a woman is shown as needing support and that her ability to stand on her own feet is diminished? It is not bad thing to have a teacher, for most of what we learn in the world is taught to us.

I understand that I am obviously outlining a fantasy here and it is not exactly going to go like this. Although I do wish that it did. Having said all of that though, Krishna does not need anybody and she knows that. Krishna is already an independent woman who makes her own choices for herself. She is not a weak woman currently whose logic has been compromised. However, I did think otherwise earlier. But, then I thought that she has not because she is aware of everything that is happening to her and she is using her choices to let it all happen. She is doing everything out of her own understanding of situations, be it her in-laws wanting to cut her hair or treat her bad. She knows what is happening. It is her sympathy and perhaps, a bit of empathy that is allowing her to choose to allow all the wrongdoings surrounding her situations. You'll see, soon enough Krishna will speak her mind, when she will feel that she needs to. Like we saw in the last episode, she knew that Veer was not entirely right in his argument, but rather she simply chose to stay quiet.

However, I do feel that the show need to pick up its pace soon or else the the pressure to do well on a 9PM slot will burden their shoulder. But, what can they do? What turns will make this so show gripping now? I know that I want to see Krishna go back to London and finish her studies. I knew that her dream will not come true easy, since in our journey of chasing what we desire, we often face obstacles. So, this twist was not at all surprising to me that Radhey met an accident and Krishna came back leaving her studies incomplete.

Please creatives put Krishna back on a route to go back to London to finish her dream.

Kind Regards,
Ibby

I can understand mindless entertainment and I do indulge in it often. But we cannot deny that there are masses out there on whom these shows have an influence and as long as that is the case, it will be good to show a bit of female empowerment. I am not asking to make Krishna take up arms against people. I want her to calmly and with respect state her point and be able to walk away from toxic situations. I would very much like television to stop promoting abusive heroes like Veet because abuse is nothing to be lauded. Yes I do consider Veet abusive. What he did to Krishna while she was at the London Medical College was nothing short of abuse ( I am a general physician who has passed through med school and that is not how a professor behaves. Not if he does not want his license to be terminated) . What he is doing to Krishna now is emotional abuse - he is at some points utilizing her to wage a war against her in laws. There are countless women and men out there who lie down and take abuse because they think it's okay. It's not. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

Oh yes, different people different perspective. But in no perspective is abuse right. I do not like Veer because how he has always been to Krishna since her days in London . That's not how a professor in a Medical College behaves. You do not manhandle your students , you definitely cannot make them clean the operation theatre. Right now he is using her as tool in his ear against her in laws. He can be an excellent mentor and lover and yes there are no perfect men but that is no reason to promote abuse. Men and Women should be able to raise their voices and take action against abuse. Visual media has a huge influence on the population and I wish it would be used in that manner.
Even if it was woman who was doing this to Krishna - it would still be wrong to me. Strong, understanding people do not resort to intimidation to get their point across. They know other more effective ways.
