Chapter 6

In the evening Dadi went to Maan's room...

Arre Dadi.. aaye na Maan called Dadi in seeing her stood outside his door... Dadi entered and sat on his bed... Maan came and sat on the floor infront of her, he rested his head on her lap... Dadi caressed his hair...

Dadi-Geet bohot pyari hai... a smile crept on his face just hearing her name... aap kuch waqt bitauge uss ke saat agar aap chahte hain hum unse baat kare...

Nahi... he sighed deeply... Dadi maine Geet ke baare main aap se kuch chupayi hain

Kya?

Pari Geet ki beti hai... he looked up to see her reaction...

Kya?...

Haan.. mujhe pehle hi din pata chal gaya... then he went on explaining the event which took place on Monday evening after work...

Dadi felt sorry for her... koi baat nahi bete...

Kya main kuch pooch sakti hoon aap se... Maan asked in a quite tone...

Poochiye...

Agar phir bhi main Geet ko shadi karna chahti toh kya aap usse apnayenge?

Par bete Geet kisi aur ki hai...

Nahi hai Dadi... aap mere baat ka jawab dijiye

Agar aap ke khushi Geet main hain... toh hume koi aitraaz nahi hai...aapke khushi se bar kar kuch nahi hai...

He hugged Dadi around her waist overwhelmed she was willing to accept Geet despite being a mother... No one would ever accept a woman who had someone else's child...Dadi caressed his hair...

A week passed, in the office nothing changed, Geet still remained distanced, though now she was a little more comfortable with Maan and did talk to him in his cabin rather than over the phone... Her studies went well, she finished her given tasks on time and even completed her assignments successfully.

Maan was in the office, he looked through the glass parting, and noticed Geet hadn't come, he tried to call her many times but didn't get through. After an hour she finally came, He noticed she had brought Pari with her. He called her to his cabin, Geet came along with Pari.

Geet why were you late?

Woh...

Kuch bole ge, you know very well I hate late comers

Sorry, wo Priya apne maayke gaye ti, aur Pari ko sambhalne ke liye koi nahi ta, usse tayar hone mein aur khilane time lag gaya

Hmm, agli baar phone karke inform kar dena

Ok sir

Ab jaake meeting ki tayyari kar lo, yeh dono files ki panch copies banana hai, she took the files and left. The staff started spreading gossip about Geet being an unwed mother, she entered her cabin and set Pari on the mat with a few toys, whilst she prepares for the meeting. Geet needed to settle Pari down before the meeting, so after she done the work Maan had set her, she took Pari in her lap and rocked her till she slept. After making sure Pari was asleep, Geet settled her on the sofa, and put cushions to stop her from falling if she wakes up. Geet then left for the meeting after leaving her cabin door open. She entered the conference room ,and set the copies of the two files infront of each chair on the table and placed the origionals infront of Maan's chair. Adi and Sasha entered,

Adi- Geet sari tayyari kar li, Geet nodded. The clients entered, Sasha and adi greeted them, the clients took their places, Maan then came, after everyone had settled down, Sasha went to the front to start the presentation, the lights were dimmed and the projector turned on, there was a series of photographs of the land where the hotel was to be built, Geet instantly recognised the land as it the very land her father sold for her, the next photo made her freeze, her face went deathly pale, Sasha then called Geet to present her bit, Maan glanced at her, he called out to her

Geet, Geet.. there was no response her eyes were fixed on that photo, tears clouded her eyes, the clients started whispering to one another,

Maan patted her gently,- Geet... Geet... he looked at Geet then the clients, the best thing to do was to take Geet from here, Maan got up and held her, she was to numb to react to anything, Maan led her back to her cabin after ordering adi to finish the presentation and excusing himself from the meeting, Maan sat her down near Pari on the sofa.

Geet, Geet, he called out

Wo wahi jaga hai she answered so quietly

Kaunsi jaga?

She rubbed her forehead, she had a headache, argh, she moaned in pain,

Geet, tumhare paas dawai hai

She moaned unable to speak, her headache was severe,

Geet mujhe batane ki koshish karo

Mmme...mmeere, bag...

He got up and grabbed her bag and looked in it for any medicine, there was some tablets, he poured a glass of water and helped her drink it as she was to weak to do any work.

Mujhe ghar jaana hai she told him after her pain subsided, she was feeling drowsy

Teek hai, main drop kardeta hoon.

Nahi main chali jaoongi

Geet, tum akele nahi jaa sakti tumhare tabiyat kharaab hai, Geet didn't argue further as she probably knew she wont be able to go by herself.

Maan held Pari in his arms, while he supported Geet with his other arm, once they settled in the car, Maan drove towards their house, he helped her out of the car and took Pari from her, he noticed she was trying really hard to keep her eyes open, Geet struggled with the keys, then opened the door, she went in and took Pari and made her way up lazily, she got into bed and lay Pari beside her and dozed off, Maan followed her, once she slept, he came down, he wondered would it be safe to leave her alone, he decided to stay as no one was here, what if she woke up and had another attack or feel pain.

Geet on the other hand as she dozed off she relived her past in her dream,

Geet Handa, princess of Handa haveli, pampered by all, her Darji, parents, her chacha, especially her cousin Brij, but there was one who disliked her her chachi for some reason. Brij loved her the most out of all of them, but he was strict when it came to family honour, she knew that, that was a reason she never took any step to ever hurt them or even make them lower their heads in shame. She used be outgoing, she'd be out till 10,11 or even stayed over at her friend's house but her family didn't mind as they trusted her, they never questioned where she went or what she did.

She was a topper at school, her teachers were proud to have a student like her, once she was on her way back from school, someone came infront of her and claimed to love her, she was shocked. She clearly told him, that it is impossible, she told him to stay away from her, he got angry and threatened her of only being his. Geet got scared and ran home, she wondered should she tell her family, but they might think she led the guy on. Heck she didn't know who he was. She'd never seen him in her life, little did she know he has followed her throughout her life, He truly and madly loved her, his love became an obsession, he needed her now, he vowed to himself he'll win her over. He always gave bouquets to her, passing them through another child, he'd write little poems and love messages with his name at the bottom. He'd gift her chocolates, and presents all the time, He even traced her number and called her, text her during the day even at night, Geet was petrified, she stopped going out so much, she always had Arohi with her or her brother to walk her to school and home. Every gift she'd receive she had it thrown away by the very same kid who passed it to her, she never picked the calls with unknown. Geet had her final exams going, and during the exams she was barred from tv, music, going out. It was a month since He'd seen her, he was going crazy, he'd call, but her phone always came switched off, he'll look at her front door just to get one glance of her but nothing he was unsuccessful. The month of not seeing him, or receiving gifts, Geet had forgotten him, this whole month she felt freedom, whereas when he was on her mind she was always scared of every little things, always wondering what his next step was.

It was the week of her exams, she'd go to school only at the time of exam then come straight home to revise, during this week, He had glimses of her, that too only in school. Once the exams were over, the dchool had an end of year party, to which Arohi and Geet attended, both of them enjoyed the last day, shedding tears of having to leave school, lots of music, dance, giggling away with friends etc...

At 9pm, Geet and Arohi decided to call it a day, both walked towards their homes, Geet dropped Arohi off as her house was just there. Arohi insisted she drop Geet first but she refused as she's only next door. As soon as Geet entered through the gates, someone grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth with their large palms. Geet was dragged to the nearby barn, no one was in sight, Geet kicked her legs to grab anyone's attention.

Once inside, he pushed her to the ground. She turned to see it was her stalker.

Please jaane do.

Jaane doon, jaane doon tumhe, pichlee ek mahine se, EK MAHINE se tumhe phone kiya, aur tum mujhe ignore karti gayi. Samajhte kya ho apne aap ko huh. He got out a syringe and came towards her, she crawled back

Yeh kya kar rahe ho?

Aaj tum nahi hiloge sirf aur sirf mehsoos karoge.

As she hit the wall, he pinned her arms with one hand and injected her with a paralysing agent, which will paralyse all her movements, she can only feel, as the drug kicked in, he lay her down. She couldn't move her lips to protest even, that was the most helpless position she was in, one by one, he removed all her clothes along with his. His lips traced each and every corner, tears were flowing down form the corner of her eyes, she closed her eyes, just wishing it was a bad dream, hoping once she wakes up, all of this will have just been a nightmare, but this was worse, he violently entered her after satisfying his lips, and viciously raped her throughout the night. She fainted so many times. He repeated the same words all night- I'll kill anyone who stands in between us... main kisi ko bhi hamare beech nahi aane doonga chahe woh tumhare ghar wale bhi na ho... samjhi...tum sirf aur sirf meri ho...

Geet woke up early dawn, she looked at him, he was in deep sleep, the drug had worn off, Geet quickly wore her clothes without making much noise, as she was about to leave he saw her.

GEEET he shouted

She started running, without looking back once, she was bleeding profusely down below, her blood was visible through her clothes, he quickly put his clothes on and ran after her, she was in such a messy state, finally she reached her garden, she was suddenly pulled back, he pressed her against the tree, with his body, his eyes glaring into hers, her mouth covered with his hand, she fought with her hands, her eyes caught sight of Brij, she needed her brother, she struggled harder, then she bit his hand which made him scream in pain, she pushed him with all her might, and ran towards Brij, Brij saw Geet, his eyes went dark in anger, who dared to touch his sister, Geet jumped on Brij and clutched him tight, crying and told him of what this person did.

Brij pushed her aside and grabbed the man and beat him to pulp, this man was going to pay for sure, her family came out, hearing all the noise, Geet hugged her mother tight, she suddenly fainted, Darji ordered the police to be called, but chachi was afraid of her family's honour, she protested.

Brij- nahi maa, police ko phone kijiye, iss ne Handa ki ladki pe haat lagayi hai, magar Geet ke naam nahi lenge warna Geet kisi ko moo dikhane layek nahi rahegi. Geet was taken inside, her mother gave her a shower with the help of chachi. Geet slept for the whole day in her mother's lap, she as even crying in her sleep.

All the Handa's were gathered n the hall, everyone was depressed,

Chachi- zaroor Geet ne kuch kiya hoga.

Maa, Brij shouted, Geet kuch bhi kar sakti hai magar hamare ghar ki izzat ke saat khilwar nahi karegi.

Weeks passed, Geet had become a dead soul, she was depressed, she didn't smile since that night, 2 months went by, Geet found out she was pregnant, Geet told Rano, Rano wanted to keep it hidden but chachi found out and shocked the rest of the Handa's with the news. Initially they wanted to abortion but the risk was Geet could die, or never have kids, but Darji wasn't going to risk his only granddaughter's life for no fault of hers.

That was when chachi slowly poisoned Brij's mind, finally after 2 weeks of filling his mind with things against Geet, Brij wanted Geet to either marry or abort. Geet was hell scared of what was going to happen and what was going to come. While the Handa's went to the temple that day, excluding chachi and Brij. Both mother and son made the arrangements of abortion. Brij called Geet and told her, Geet tried to protest, Brij beat her up with hot iron rods on her back, leaving marks, everyone returned home and stopped him. Darji picked her up, Geet clung on to him,

Darji- Brij tu yeh kar raha ta... teri choti behen

Hamare izzat ke saat khelwaar kar rahi hai. Koi usse shadi nahi karega, aap sab andhe hogaye hai kya, loug hamare baat karenge

Darji- BRIJ

Rajendar- Darji sahi keh rahe hai. Tu pagal ho gaya kya.

Par papa

Darji-  bas kuch nahi sunna, Rano Geet ko lekar andar ja

Rano took Geet in and dressed her wounds, the scars were big and deep, the burn was quite severe.

In the evening Darji called Mohinder and Rano to the room, and told them they have to send her away as Brij will end up killing her as soon as she's alone. Mohinder sold the land to get money to provide for her, he found out Arohi going to Delhi for her further education, and decided to send her there, It took 2 days to arrange for Geet's departure without anyone knowing, Geet was going separately or Brij will be trace her. Geet's belongings went with Arohi and her mother, Mohinder at night made Geet leave quietly, chachi found out, she immediately told Brij, with that he went and gathered his men to search for Geet.

While walking towards the bus station, she noticed one of his men, she ran through the forest, but was surrounded by all 5 men, Geet was about to get attacked until Maan came, seeing all the violence she fainted, Maan took her to the nearby hut, as she regained consciousness, she left without a word. She reached the bus station near dawn and made her way to Delhi. Arohi and her mother helped her without question, as Arohi's mother had to go back to HP, she hired Priya to help Geet. She feared men, the mere sight reminded her of that fateful night. She was in contact with Darji, and her father. That night had destroyed her, emotionally and mentally broke her, she had to be counselled by a doctors, to make her fears die down, during pregnancy she had many attacks as time went by she adjusted to be around males, but wouldn't talk to them, and would keep  distance, The only exceptions were Aditya and Arjun though it took her a long time to start behaving normally with them. Geet faced a lot of complications due to pregnancy as well as her body was too weak, her life along with Pari's was endangered. With the help of Priya and Arohi, Geet gained her strength, by them over feeding her and making sure she took all her medicines.

As days went by, Geet's financial support was low to accommodate her and Pari, she definitely didn't want to ask any favours as everyone done so much for her, she decided to get a job, with the help of Arjun she got one.  Her past was dark, very dark for a young girl such as herself, only aged 16, she faced so many obstacles to get to where she is. She can never forgive or forget, but she can try to move on if not for herself but Pari.

 Geet was sweating, and shaking living her past once again, she woke up screaming, Pari woke up with her scream and started crying, Geet stopped screaming hearing Pari, she took Pari in her arms, and rocked her, making Pari calm down and go back to sleep. Arohi and Arjun rushed upstairs hearing her scream.

Downstairs after Geet had slept, Maan was called back to the office due to an emergency, he called Arohi and Arjun to let them know of Geet.

Maan rushed to the office and realised the work wasn't as important as Sasha described over the phone, all Sasha received was an angry glare from him.

Geet hardly remembered what happened, the next day she made her way to the office with Pari as Priya hadn't come back, and Arjun and Arohi had left to Shimla for a conference. No one questioned her at the office as they have been warned by Maan that he didn't want any talks or rumours or they'll face Maan Singh Khurana's wrath.

Geet managed to work with Pari, without much trouble, as she left, she caught a taxi and made her way home. As she reached home, her steps froze seeing the exact same bouquet on the door step as she used to receive from him, she clutched on Pari tighter as she went closer, she picked note which was attached, and read- Geet, I'm back...I,ve come back just for you, but I'm VERY angry at you, how could you keep Pari away from me, she's my daughter, I'm coming Geet, coming back to you. Love yours...

She dropped the paper on the floor and entered her house, sweating and shivering due to fear. He's back those words rung in her head. She paced the room, with Pari in her arms, she called Arjun and Arohi numerous times, she needed someone near her, what if he comes and she wouldn't be able to fight back as she had Pari with her, what if he harms her or Pari in anyway.
