CHAPTER 13

Next day, Bella was very nervous but she decided to take a chance. As promised, Sumitra and Andy went out in the evening. Their exams had just finished and so BeHir would spend the evenings reading books. That day Bella did not come out of her room for a long time. Mahir tried to talk to her a couple of times but she did not answer properly and so he let her be. At around 8:00 PM he received a text

Bella's text: Come to my room. Now!

Wondering if she had lost it, he went to her room. When he reached there, he saw that her room was in complete darkness. As soon as he stepped inside the door shut behind him with a snap. Simultaneously lights switched on. He turned in surprise to see that Bella's room was fully decorated by fairy lights, and Bella decked up in a beautiful saree, was standing before him.

Bella: What do you think Mahir? How do I look?

Mahir was speechless for a moment seeing her in a dark blue saree and a backless blouse. She looked stunning. In the soft light she looked regal. He recognized the saree as being the one which he had gifted Sumitra for her birthday. Bella was still waiting for an answer.

Mahir: You... ummm... Look stunning. But what is all this?

Bella: I want to ask you something. No... I want to tell you something.

Mahir: Hmm, go ahead.

Bella: Mahir I... nothing. Come let's have some food.

Mahir: But why all these arrangements?

Bella: Remember I promised you a treat if I passed. So this is that treat.

She went and pulled up a chair for him and he sat down. She opened the covered plate and showed him a pizza which she had made. He knew that she had been making something since morning, but he had no idea that all of those efforts were for him. She cut a piece of pizza for him and fed him a piece. Mahir being a complete dumbo, was very awkward when she was feeding him.

Mahir: Uhh... I can eat. I mean it is tasting nice but... I can eat it myself.

Bella waited patiently till Mahir had finished eating and once he was done, she went and took his hand in hers.

Mahir: What are you doing Bella?

He was trying to get her to leave his hand but she held on tightly. She tried to get him to stand up but like an idiot he kept sitting looking at her with a blank expression. She finally managed to get him to stand up and placed his hand on her waist and pulled him in for a dance. As she began to sway in time with the beat, she felt Mahir's hand trembling on her waist. It was tickling her no end. She was beginning to lose patience now. Here was a perfectly beautiful girl trying to dance with him and this boy was busy trembling and sweating. She suddenly let go of him and went and shut off the music. Instead of looking disappointed as she had expected him to, he looked relieved.

Bella: What is your problem?

Mahir: What?

Bella took a deep calming breathe and spoke.

Bella: Mahir, you are the moon to my night. You are the shore to my waves. You are the anchor to my ship. With you life feels beautiful. Without you life feels like an unending abyss. Your presence in my life is like that of a cool breeze that soothes you in harsh summers. Your presence warms me like hot chocolate warms you on a cold winter evening. You are the light that keeps my darkness away. You are that darkness that keeps me safe from harsh lights. My home is where you are. Mahir I...

Mahir: Bella are you alright? I mean do you have fever or something? Moon to my night, anchor to my waves... One moment you called me as cool as the summer breeze and the next instant you called as hot as the hot chocolate? Either I am like a light or I am like darkness. I mean you are talking completely opposite stuff girl. You okay?

Bella was about to say I love you when Mahir interrupted her with his useless and highly unromantic chatter. She had been holding his hand but now dropped his hand and turned away from him. She was feeling SERIOUSLY pissed off by his behaviour. Mahir had been observing her back with a puzzled expression on his face. She turned to face him very suddenly, her eyes blazing. She pushed him against the wall and pinned him there.

Bella: Mr. Thick Glasses, keep your bloody ears open and hear what I have got to say. As it is I am not a romantic person. I spent the ENTIRE night coming up with these sentences for YOU. And you are asking me if I am alright? Like really? Chirkut, listen to me very carefully. I LOVE YOU! Got it? I don't know what I see in you, but I love you. And now I want your answer. I will go and wait downstairs and wait for you. You can give me your answer anytime you want. And as punishment for killing my mood, I want you to kiss me on the LIPS if you love me. GOT IT?

Saying this she strode away from him and Mahir slid to the floor breathing heavily like he had just run for miles. His thoughts were in complete disarray as he replayed Bella's confession in his mind. He knew that Bella and Yuvi had broken up as she had shared it with him. But he had no idea that Bella had feelings for him. Did he love her? Surprisingly the answer came to him very easily. Of course he loved her. How could he not?

He thought about how Bella had told him to answer her question and began shaking at the thought. But then he had been as idiot when he asked her if she was alright. Cursing himself inwardly, he went downstairs to see her waiting for him. He approached her from behind and tapped her on the shoulder.

Mahir: Bella, I...

Bella: Actions speak louder than words Mahir.

Saying this she turned away from him and waited patiently for him to react. Mahir took a deep breath and purposefully turned her around. He saw anticipation in her eyes as he looked into her eyes. He slowly and deliberately lowered his mouth to her lips and lightly brushed his lips against hers. She responded immediately and pulled him in deeper for a longer and more passionate kiss. His hands explored her exposed waist as they kissed passionately. Suddenly they heard someone clear her throat loudly and awkwardly and they both jumped apart to see Sumitra and Andy standing awkwardly in the doorway.

Andy: Umm are you both done? I mean, we can go out for some more time if you want...

Sumitra: Andy!

BeHir had turned a deep shade of pink at being caught kissing like that. Bella suddenly went and hugged Sumitra.

Sumitra: So Mahir, can we consider this official?

Mahir: Yes ma. I mean if you don't have a problem...

Andy: Wow Mahir you are asking for our permission AFTER sealing the relationship with a kiss? All the best dear. There is a lot my son needs to learn.

Bella: I will be a pleasure teaching him all that he needs to learn. (Wink)

Mahir blushed even more as everyone else laughed at him.

EPILOGUE

That day Bella found a family that she could call her own. One thing that she had pined for all her life was family. And she found one in the Sehgals. Though far from perfect, it was a family nevertheless. Bella who never had any relations was suddenly gifted with a lot of relations. Mahir's extended family had a little difficulty accepting Bella, but she had staunch supporters in Mahir, Sumitra and Andy. Soon on Sumitra's insistence Bella permanently shifted to Sehgal Mansion. Although this news caused scandal in the media, Sumitra was not bothered. She wanted to ensure that both her kids were well and happy.

Bella slowly managed to bridge the gap between Mahir and Andy over the years. With Bella's help Mahir became more social. Over the years the imperfect family had begun to look perfect. When BeHir got married a few years later, Janvi was invited to the wedding. Bella had realised that no matter what, she could not shy away from her duties as a daughter. Although years later, when she was all alone and ailing, Janvi realised her mistakes and apologised for the same, it was too late to build bridges. Bella had no love or affection left for her biological mother and she did whatever was expected of her as a duty and nothing else. Janvi did not live to see Bella's kids. Her excessive drinking habits took a toll on her health and she passed away at 55 years.

Bella and Mahir led a happy life. Although they had their fair share of problems, they always found support in Sumitra and Andy. Bella finally had a place she could call her own. All was well.
