So I finally watched a star is born after listening to all this massive hype around it. It is touted to be one of the best movies of this year and I went in all excited just to realise I watched a Hollywood version of Aashiqui 2 😕
So a wannabe singer encounters a famous rockstar in a bar and he instantly falls in love with her and gives her a big break. But he has a drinking problem now this girl gets all famous while his career goes down and he has to face the wrath of his failures and addiction forms the rest of the story. And no I'm not narrating Aashiqui 2 here this is the plot of A star is born 😆
Sorry Hollywood, Bollywood has been there and done that way before you so don't get the hype around it. Unless the Bollywood version is inspired by some other movie( I don't know let me know if it is) but I think given the very similar plot it's fair to compare the two movies and draw parallels. Although I hated Aashiqui 2's ending I think it gives away a very wrong message. Haven't seen The end of A star is born (the site didn't corporate till that point)but if it's anything similar I hate it already. If anyone has seen the later do let me know how it ended please.
So okay thanks to the members here I know both are the remakes of the original that came out in 1930. Still if you seen them both do let me know which one you prefer and why?

The film is indeed a remake. It's the 3rd remake ( the 2nd was with Barbara Streisand) and Aashiqui 2 is also a remake.
I've seen all of them and yet this version is by far superior to all the other ones mainly due to the brilliant direction and the terrific performances especially Lady Gaga. She completely transformed herself for the role: I had to remind myself every time that she was Lady Gaga. Even when singing she makes you forget Lad Gaga. The concert scenes were amazing : I watched it on the big screen and it almost felt I was attending a real concert.
The story is nothing new, but it's the performances and the subtle subplot that make the difference : the way Jack wasn't just jealous of her success but he was genuinely disappointed that she traded her talent and voice for commercial success. How he knew that she will always make him her priority and he didn't want to hold her back. Bradley treated these angles with a lot of depth and sensitiveness that you can only feel their emotions.
None of the movies I've seen this year impacted me the way A star is born did.

thank you for the in-depth analysis I respect your opinion. Though I don't feel the same way about the movie maybe because I was expecting too much and ended up with a remake or maybe because I didn't experience it on the big screen. I didn't feel it the way you did. La la land had more of an effect on me than this one.But the songs I loved I agree with you on this especially Shallow. And I gotta give it to Aashiqui 2 for the music as well for a movie that is a musical they did good justice to it. Only complain I had from it was that I wished the actors could sing their own songs like the ones in Hollywood do it makes it look more convincing. Lady Gaga was no doubt phenomenal in that department she blew me away with the way she moulded her voice for this role.

The songs were indeed amazing : my favourite remains " I'll always remember us this way".

Not seen Star is born yet. Will do.
Except for the exceptional songs and good looking leads, nothing was good about the movie including the acting and the story did not click with me at all.

A quick google search would've told you Aashiqui 2 is remake of a very famous hollywood movie. Has Hollywood ever copied a hindi movie?
