Can someone please explain to me why in the world is Ronit arrested and locked up for an alleged rape?

Rape is a very serious crime and it is extremely irresponsible for an Indian television show to treat it so nonchalantly.

As far as I can tell, Shivani and Ronit had consensual sex. They believed they were in love and being 20-year olds, sex becomes the next logical step in their relationship. They either did not use protection or it failed. Shivani ends up pregnant. Ronit withdraws from Shivani when he hears that she is pregnant. He is probably terrified. She is at her wit's end and attempts suicide.

For dramatic effect, this is blown all out of proportion. But why arrest Ronit for rape? And why he is held in jail? He can be freed on bail. His family obviously can afford bail. Why is he treated so badly when he is only accused of rape??? There have been no charges, no trial, no lawyers, no conviction. What is going on???? Is this just tv serial drama or is this based on real Indian laws?

Both Shivani and Ronit are responsible for this mistake. The sensible option in India would be abortion since it is not against the law. If Shivani chose to keep the baby, what are Ronit's rights in this matter? Keeping in mind the sex was consensual but the pregnancy was an accident.

An entire episode was devoted to the sister of Ronit marching into the alleged rape victim's home and demanding she withdraws her accusation. 😲 The drama was OTT but her argument had merit.

This was already discussed few days back.
In India sex after false promise of marriage can be considered as rape in certain situations. Like some law students pointed out in the other thread, what these 'situations' are is upto the court to decide.

Regarding trials and lawyers...KZK is a daily soap and you really cannot expect it to show reality. Trials and lawyers would take up too much time and bore the audience.

I agree about the abortion part even if it sounds insensitive. In India its a huge stigma to get pregnant out of wedlock. So terminating the pregnancy would have been the most logical thing to do considering Shivi is in her first trimester. Its also weird how the Sharma's are suddenly progressive and cool about Shivi's pregnancy. Nobody talks about it in the household😳Or did I miss some parts where they talked about it?

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. I will look for the other thread and read up on the explanations provided by the law students. I must have missed it.

"In India, sex after false promise of marriage can be considered as rape in certain situations."

How can a law like this be upheld? How can one verify the promises made before having sex? Does one sign a contract like a pre-nup or make a recording with the promise? How is any of this admissible in court? How does one prove a promise of marriage was made?

Also what happens if the girl withdraws from the marriage plans? Can the boy accuse the girl of rape?

In this drama, the complication is the pregnancy. Because the girl is pregnant, she is now accusing the boy of rape. That is outrageous! If Shivani did not become pregnant, then she and Ronit would have carried on with their relationship, until they broke up and moved on with other people. There would have been no accusation of rape.

I just can't wrap my head around the injustice of it all. Ronit and Shivani are equally responsible for this mess.

this entire track is illogical, simply put and for someone like Shivani, I rarely expected this. She is supposed to be street smart and much of a forward thinker than Pre. Pre owns the tile of abla naari
