The same reason why people lose memories or mental balance and recover later. It's a twist, a plot point that changes the dynamics of the relationships of the characters thus introducing more masala into the show. 😉

The point is to stretch the story and make the audience wait so they keep watching the serial to see the "Ganga-Sagar Sangam" 😃
