Why Why Why would you take Sonam for this role ? Damn. She can't act. Especially when your costar is Rajkummar, it is so much more visible. 😕

What gentle nudges. The Supreme Court literally apologized for the shit the community had to go through. Aligarh is a movie already out there and so are several others. Sonam isnt the first actor playing a lgbtq character. The audience the society at large show homophobia at every instant so the community has to be gentle in return? We have been gentle for decades and still nothing. Sensitive portrayals are necessary but the truth should be all out there. Not one or the other. India isn't new to gay people lmfao. Our people going to movies should feel validated that this is our story too. I just want it to be promoted as a lesbian drama not just an afterthought at the end of the movie.

And sure money is important but that's no excuse for half assing things and not promote things the way it should be. You cant be a half ally for woke points. And damn with that logic, one can let anyone get away with anything in the movies lol. If you can't completely give yourself to a social message maybe not do it at all in the first place. And KJo lol. He's one of the primary reasons lgbtq people have been used as a mockery device in pop culture in India. He made Dostana and produced Kal ho na ho and in both gay people are mocked. All he wants is his money, full offence.

SC ruling and social acceptance are 2 diff things.

Legally, there cannot be any ambiguity, and the ruling clearly leaves no room for any.

But socially... talk about half ally or full ally all you like, there won't be ANY ally if you try bludgeon this very conservative society into acceptance. People need to see LGBTQ+ as regular people, first. With same hopes and dreams, with the same flaws and virtues. Art can succeed where the law fails. A movie like Philadelphia, for instance. It didn't hide the protag's sexuality. But Tom Hanks (his character) was fighting for acceptance of his sexuality through acceptance of his individuality. IMO, that's what connected with the audience.

^Yes queer people are normal people. We are all queer we are all normal because there is no such thing as normal really. The distinction needs to be erased from people's minds. Queer people are like any other people- that's where we need to go. I love the fact that the movie is a love story- mainstream masala movie & the obstacle is her sexuality. Not caste, religion or class. It's just another social obstacle. It is normalizing same sex love stories. It's making you feel for them by putting it in a similar context as hetero stories. I think it's pretty brilliant!

This looks very good and charming. I love how the trailer has incorporated regular romcom elements with a twist! I am so glad Sonam has chosen to do a film on this topic, really hope that the romance is well-written! I also hope that the film doesn't get undue negative reception or dumb protests! Just really glad that BW is finally coming up with a proper Lesbian film without disgusting hypersexuality or demonization!

Sonam's lineup this year is so exciting! I am so looking forward to this and The Zoya Factor!

I thought it was any other romcom until I saw the comments that it dealt with a Lesbian relationship. That is pretty interesting. Sonam seems to choose really different films than the usual. If only she works on her acting and dialogue delivery, she can create a own space for herself.
