The makers should either keep him one annoying man or settle him for an ideal man. It cannot work both ways. HIs attitude is nauseating at times and even worse is the case when they end up showing him as the Adarsh Bharatiya Pitaji of all times. There is something so horribly wrong with his characterisation that I want him to take a long break from this show.
Case 1
Babita and Iyyer divorce :
If it was a real case where the husband was having an affair then Champak's way of handling it would have just ruined it altogether. It was Iyyer's good nature and respect that he tolerated the nonsense. Why would you discuss a sensitive topic like this openly in the GD compound ? And by what right did he ask Iyyer to not enter his own flat ?
Case 2
Jetha's hunger strike
This track was wrong on many levels. Champak often criticises Jetha because he cannot keep a vrat but it seems he cannot keep a fast either. The family also eats together most of the time but then when one day Jtha fails to keep his promise to come home early, Champak doesn't want to hear an explanation. When Jetha complains he is all ' I am hurt' . Its okay to behave that way when you are hungry but Champak had to keep this thing going on for days.
Case 3
Adopting Pinku
why would you adopt someone when you dont have a source of income yourself and depend upon your son? On what grounds do you expect your son to share his home and family with a new person when his opinion was not even taken into consideration before this decision was made? Also, Pinku is not an orphan, He has parents who take care of him. Only they dont have adequate time to spend with him. Letting him stay with you should have been enough but no Champak has to cross boundaries.
Case 4
The Gambling prank
Lets assume Jetha had actually lost thousands of money in gambling. Yet he is a forty year old man. Why would you run here and there and collect money from every man living on Earth to pay it when your son is quite capable of paying it himself ? Instead of taking him along what exactly was the need to do it yourself ?
Case 5
The adventures of Nimbu Soda
I agree going out looking for Nimbu at this odd hour is childish yet they did get into real trouble after police arrested them for trespassing. Instead of listening to them Champak closed the gates for them late at night. The punishment was way too severe considering they are not habitual late comers but it was something that was beyond their control. Also, each of them are middle aged man. In sharp contrast,Tappu Sena's mistakes don't end with such punishments. Whether they lie about their suspension or stealing Bhide's scooter, they are just young kids for him.
I can go on making a long list here .While it might look funny to many which should be okay as long as they stop projecting him as an ideal father. Its not how Indian families are. These are not our traditions or culture. We respect our elders but after a certain age a father's duty is to guide his son with his valuable experience and advice and not force him to do things. The idea is to create another guardian who can take over his place once he is gone. This must be true to many other cultures also.
