Chapter 5
Next morning,black panthers parted ways. "We will visit you soon.'' Dev told Mahek as he gave her a hug. "I will wait for you guys,take care and see you soon.'' Mahek hugged everyone and bid them goodbyes. "Alright! Time to go Mahek.'' Shaurya came out of the cabin with their carry ons and loaded it on black beauty. He climbed up the horse and gave Mahek a hand. In no time they were on their way to the village. "Shaurya,where will I stay..I mean where will I sleep?'' Asked Mahek. "With me in my room.'' Returned Shaurya. "I can't..ma papa kya sochenge...Abhi humari shaadi bhi nai huwi..I cant.'' Mahek refused. "You'll be safe with me in my room and about the marriage,we'll do that soon.'' Mahek's face lit up at the mention of their wedding. "Sachii? I can hardly wait now!'' She leaned back and rested her head on his chest. Shaurya kissed the crown of her head in affirmation. The horse continued to gallop,ripping through the jungle.
They arrived at the village around lunch time. Shaurya tied the black beauty to a tree. "Does your parents know I'll be staying here with you?'' Asked Mahek nervously as they headed towards the door. "They'll know now! Let's go inside and tell them.'' The maid opened the door for them and they stepped inside. "Where's Mom and dad?'' Enquired Shaurya. "They are in their room.'' Answered the maid and moved away to give them way. Shaurya held Mahek's hand and brought her to his parents room. Harish was watching tv and Karuna was sewing a sweater. "Mom dad,I have brought Mahek home. She'll stay here with us from today.'' He announced. A wide smile appeared on their faces as they looked at them standing there holding each other's hands. "Matlab Tu Meri bahu ko bhaga laya? Shabaash!'' Said Harish proudly. Shaurya looked at Mahek who was shying away. "Aur Koi raasta bhi nai tha dad!'' Karuna walked to them. "Accha kiya! How can she live with murderers? From today she'll live here with us like our own daughter. She'll get all the love and care she deserves. And Pretty soon we'll get you both married.'' Saying that Karuna opened her arms for her. "Come here to me!'' With tears forming in her eyes mahek ran in her arms. Karuna kissed her forehead and blessed her. "Aaj se Yeh tumara ghar hai beta,Aur Hum Sab bhi tumarey hai.'' She caressed her head lovingly. "Thank you ma!'' Mahek blinked back her tears. "Come here bacchey!'' Hollered Harish. Mahek walked to him and touched his feet. "May you live long and may I get delicious food everyday!'' Mahek burst out laughing. "Ayse se hii hasti rahna,Aur humesha khush raho.'' Harish too blessed her. "Show her the guest room,I'll fix lunch.'' Karuna said to Shaurya. "Mom..Woh I was thinking she'll be safe in my room..'' Shaurya tried his luck. Karuna pulled his ears. "Sab pata hai mujhey! Chup chaap jaao and show her the guest room.'' Shaurya nodded coyly and escaped from there. Embarrassed, Mahek followed behind him. Karuna chuckled at their state. "I was telling you I can't stay in your room but you were not listening.'' Complained Mahek while unpacking her bag in the guest room. "I'll marry you soon Mahek,then no one will stop us from living in one bedroom.'' Mahek looked at him with a shy smile on her face. "I'll see how soon you can marry me.'' He grabbed her hand. "I can marry you now Mahek! Let's go to the temple and get married.'' Mahek's eyes widened in bewilderment as he dragged her towards the door. "Shaurya ruko please! We can't marry now..I mean not in a rush..we have so much on our heads right now..let's sort things out first then we'll get married.'' Explained Mahek. Shaurya let out a deep breath and sighed. "Ok whatever you say! My room is next to yours,if you need me or anything just give me a shout.'' He turned to go. "Where you going?'' Asked Mahek. "I'll make some calls and see if I can get a job somewhere.'' Returned Shaurya. "Not somewhere Shaurya! You studied business management,try finding a job in that field.'' Suggested Mahek. "I'll see what I can do. Freshen up and come for lunch,I'll meet you at the dining table.'' Mahek nodded and he left.
After lunch Mahek made some calls to the law school. They demanded fees before she could resume her studies. She decided not to bother Shaurya with the fees and all so she called the hospital for work. "You can start your shift from tonight.'' Her manager told her on the phone. "Thank you I'll be there on time.'' Thanking the manager she hung up the phone to find Shaurya standing behind her. "Raat ko kaam karne ki kya zarurat hai Mahek? Why can't you work during the day?'' He Questioned. "It's just for few hours Shaurya,and during the day I want to finish my law studies...please let me.'' She insisted. "Alright! I'll drop you off and pick you up when you are done.'' He made it clear. Mahek walked to him and pulled his cheeks. "Of course Shaurya! Who else will take me to work and bring me back besides you?'' She hugged him and Shaurya's arms came around her protectively. "By the way Did you find a job?'' She Asked after few minutes of standing like that. "I have an interview tomorrow,I'll drop you off at the law school then I'll go from there.'' Mahek broke the hug and moved away. "I can't start the law school just yet Shaurya,I need to work for a bit first.'' Shaurya twirled her around to face her. "What is it? Is there something you are not telling me?'' Mahek faked a smile. "It's Nothing Shaurya..don't worry..now go get your Jeep ready..I'll freshen up and then we'll leave early.'' Shaurya sensed something was wrong and Mahek was hiding it from him. He sat down on her bed and looked at her. "Your shift starts late,why you wanna go early?'' Mahek grabbed a towel and looked at him. "I'm going to the law school first to enquire about my courses.'' He stood up and walked to her. "You know I'm always there for you right?'' Mahek nodded. "I know Shaurya.'' And she hugged him once again. "Just don't hide anything from me Mahek,if there's anything bothering you please don't hesitate to tell me.'' He requested. Mahek kissed on his heartbeat. "I will Shaurya,right now you have a lot on your shoulder and I can't burden you with more.'' He cupped her face and stared deep in her eyes. "You can never burden me Mahek,I love you and you are my responsibility.'' Mahek placed her hands over his. "Whatever it is,let me fix it first and if I can't then I'll let you know.'' He kissed her forehead. "Alright then! Go get ready I'll drop you off.'' Mahek left towards the washroom.
Later that evening,Shaurya drove her to the law school. "Shaurya,you Wait here,I'll be back in few minutes.'' Mahek left him in his Jeep and disappeared inside the building. Shaurya wanted to know why she couldn't start her courses like from the next day,what was it that she was hiding? To find out he followed behind her. Inside the administration office,Mahek got to know the amount of fees she has to pay before she can join the courses. "I'll pay in a month..please at least let me start the course.'' Pleaded Mahek. "I'm sorry Miss Mahek,it doesn't happen like that. Pay before you can resume your courses.'' Returned the administration guy. With tears swimming in her eyes,Mahek turned to go and bumped into Shaurya who had heard everything. She quickly blinked back her tears. "Let's go Shaurya..my courses starts from next month..we'll come next month.'' She grabbed his hand and tried to lead him out of the room but he didn't budge from there. "You go sit in the Jeep,I'll be a minute.'' Mahek panicked at the sudden change of his voice and expression. "Shaurya please...Chalo yaha se..'' she pulled him but He shoved her hand away. "Main ne Kaha na! Wait in the Jeep!'' His deep voice made her tremble. She nodded and left from there quietly. The door shut behind her and she shivered in fear but stood by the door. Few minutes later,Shaurya came out with the admin guy. Mahek noticed he was sweating badly. "Mi..miss Mahek you can join from tomorrow,whenever you feel like you can pay the fees..I don't have a problem.'' Stuttered the guy. Shaurya pat on his back. "Good man! Now go inside and do your job.'' The guy left. "You threatened him didn't you?'' Questioned Mahek. Shaurya grabbed her hand and brought her to the Jeep. "No I didn't! I explained him in my style,that's all!'' Answered Shaurya as he helped her climb the Jeep. "I know your style Shaurya! Dhamki dii hogi tumne! I won't go for my courses until I pay the fees! I will never force myself in.'' She told him firmly and sat there with an angry pout. "Did anyone tell you gussey mein Tum Aur bhi khoobsurat lagti ho!'' Teased Shaurya. "Han Kaha tha na! Home minister ka Beta!'' Shaurya's grin vanished and his temperature rose. He moved his Jeep and sped towards the hospital. "You should have married him then!'' He snapped on the way. "I was marrying him but you came as an obstacle and ruined everything!'' He stopped the Jeep by the hospital. "Theek hai phir! You are free to go and marry anyone! I won't come in your path anymore!'' Mahek looked at him but he looked away. "Go I don't have whole day!'' He ordered her. Both were upset and out of their senses at that time. Sadly,Mahek grabbed her bag and got out of the Jeep. "I'm going Shaurya...'' Without Saying a word,Shaurya drove away from there. With tears in her eyes Mahek went inside.
Entire night Mahek could not concentrate on her work. "Yeh Main ne kya kah diya? I shouldn't have mentioned that psychopath and the wedding. He must have felt bad Aur Suna diya mujhey. When he comes to pick me up,I'll pacify him..mana lungi Main usey pyaar se.'' Thought Mahek. But Shaurya never came back to pick her up,instead he sent vicky. "Good morning Bhabi! Hop in I'll take you home!'' Said Vicky with a grin. "Hey Vicky..where's Shaurya? I thought he was coming to get me.'' Asked Mahek as she climbed the Jeep and sank on the seat. "Bhai couldn't come but he sent me. He left Delhi last night.'' Mahek felt a lump in her throat. "Left Delhi? But why?'' She asked with panic stricken face. "He left in search of work.'' Replied vicky. Mahek sat there suppressing her tears. She knew it was her fault that he had left. "Don't worry Bhabi,I'm working by your hospital..I can drop you off and pick up whenever.'' Vicky assured her. He kept Blabbering all the way to khanna house but Mahek never uttered a word. As soon as the Jeep came to a halt,she ran inside the house and collapsed on her bed. She burst into tears and cried. She had no idea when she dozed off.
She woke up when her alarm went off. It was 3pm! She had slept for the entire day. She checked her phone for any messages from Shaurya but none had come. She dialled his number to apologize for her rude behaviour and ask him to come home but he never picked up his phone. "Ab tak gussa hai kya? Kya karu Main? How will I bring him home? I have to somehow..I can't live without him...marjaungi main..'' Hot tears streamed down her cheeks. She sent him a text message. "Phantom,please come home. I'm really sorry ..I said things which I wasn't suppose to say..please maaf kardo na! I love you na toh shaadi bhi tumhi se karungi..kisi Aur se kiyu karu? Please aajao na..I'm very alone..if you don't come then I'll go from here as well phir kabhi nai milungi tumse...you are reading this na? Please Ek reply kardo na..'' she sent the text and waited but no reply came. Sadly,she got up and went for a shower.
Later she helped the maid with cooking. "Mahek,are you okay Beta?'' Asked Karuna ma from the doorway. She went and touched her feet. Karuna blessed her. "I miss him ma..call him home please..he's mad at me...and he's not answering his phone or replying to my messages...'' Mahek hugged her and sobbed. Karuna stroked her lovingly and brought her to her room. They sat on the bed and Karuna asked her to narrate everything that had happened between her and Shaurya that night. Mahek took a deep breath and told her everything. "Tum dono na bilkul bacchey ho! But don't worry he'll come to you soon. Go eat something..I'll pack your lunch then vicky will drop you off at work.'' Comforting Her,Karuna left. Mahek couldn't eat anything ..she was scared to even think she has lost Shaurya forever. She shook off her thoughts and dialled Sonal's number. "I'm working tonight jaaneman! I'll see you at work okay? Come a little bit early,we need to catch up.'' She hung up before Mahek could tell her about Shaurya.
A month went by without Shaurya. But Mahek never gave up on him. She sent him text messages everyday and night. She waited and waited for him to come back. One day she received a call from the law college that her fee was paid in full and she could join the course anytime. "Who paid my fee?'' Mahek Asked the admin when she went there to enquire. "Shaurya Khanna paid your fees!'' The admin shook her hands. "Welcome aboard Miss sharma! You are good to go!'' A wide smile appeared on her lips. "Really? Is he here in town?'' She Asked gleefully. "He will be soon. But you can start your courses.'' Mahek nodded happily. "I'll resume my courses from tomorrow!'' She rushed out and broke the news to Sonal and vicky who were waiting for her. "Tera phantom Abh dur nai.'' Teased Sonal which made Mahek blush.
Few days went by. She finally received a text message from Shaurya. "Hi Mahek,I want you to focus in your studies and finish your course. I'm working hard here as well. I will see you very soon.'' Mahek danced with the phone in her hand. She was happy that finally he messaged her. She looked at his photo on her phone. "Matlab gussa gayab?'' She smiled and kissed his photo. Mahek was back in law school once again. And At night she worked part time at the hospital. Mahek knew Shaurya will be coming home anytime soon. She could feel him in the air. It was Saturday,Karuna ma and Harish had gone for a wedding in a nearby village. Vicky was away for some work as well. Mahek and the maid was left alone in the house. The weather was changing suddenly. Lightening flashed and the Thunder rolled in a distance. Mahek hid under the blanket as she was scared of lightening and thunder. It had started to pour heavily. "Mahek,I have to go..my husband just called..my son is really sick and is asking for me.'' Announced the maid. Mahek couldn't say no and sent her off. She locked the doors and secured the windows. She then lit the oil lamp incase the power went off and stayed inside her room. Trees swayed in the fierce wind and the sound scared her. "Oh god please calm the storm and send someone home please.'' Mahek prayed silently in her heart. Just then the power went off. Good thing she had her oil lamp with her. Suddenly a car pulled over in the driveway. She heard the door of the car open and shut. With the lamp in her hand,she came out in the living room and moved the curtain a little bit to see who it was. She saw The car pulling out of the driveway. A figure moved to the main door,because of the heavy rain she was having difficulty seeing. Her heartbeat rose when a key was inserted in the lock and the knob turned. She found harish's walking stick and was ready to attack whoever was at the door. The door flung open and a figure stepped in. The door shut on its own as the wind swept in. "Ma? Papa? Mahek? Where are you?'' The stick from her hand dropped on the floor when she heard his voice. She grabbed the lamp and hurried towards the door. In front of her stood her phantom! Her Shaurya! She choked back a cry. "Shaurya? Tum sachmuch aagay?'' He tossed his bag on the floor. His mouth tamped into a tight smile as he opened his arms for her. "Main sachmuch agaya Mahek!'' She left the lamp on the flower stand and ran to him. He enveloped her in his arms. "Why did you leave me Shaurya? You never answered my calls or even replied to my messages! Do you have any idea how alone I was without you?'' She punched him and wept on his chest. His arms around her tightened and he pressed her more into him. "I'm sorry I had to leave without letting you know...I was being watched by the police here ..they were following me so I had to leave for a while. And also I was a little mad at you too..'' He explained. She lifted her head and looked at him with tear filled eyes. "I'm sorry..Main pata nai kya kya bol gayee tumey uss din...please maaf kardo na...'' In response Shaurya cupped her cheeks and rained kisses on her entire face. Mahek did the same. They kissed and hugged. "Don't you ever leave me alone! Samjhe tum? I was so worried and missed you like crazy!'' She murmured on his chest. "I might get arrested soon Mahek. Home ministers son had seen me that day and now the police are looking for me.'' He told her. Mahek felt her hands and feet go cold on her. "I'll find a way to save you Shaurya...don't worry.'' She assured him. She then realized he was wet from the rain water. "Go change I'll fix dinner for you.'' Said Mahek. "I ate on the way so I'm good. Bring me a coffee instead.'' Mahek nodded and left towards the kitchen with the lamp in her hand.
Fierce wind continued to blow with the heavy downpour. A branch ripped from the tree behind the house and it collapsed on the roof of the kitchen. Petrified Mahek screamed and ran towards Shaurya's room. Tripping and falling she finally made it to his room. Clad only in a towel,Shaurya was going through his phone when Mahek collided with him and both went down on the bed. Him down and her on top. "So...so..sorry...there's someone on the roof..'' she stuttered. Shaurya chuckled. "Not someone! It's a broken branch from the tree!'' Mahek flushed from embarrassment. "Oh is it? I thought it's ..'' She tried to get up but Shaurya held her close. "Don't go..'' whispered Shaurya, caging her in,the smoky look in his eyes all but welding her to the spot. Her heart battered her lips. "Tumey Kuch chahiye..'' The gentle brush of his mouth against hers stalled the words in her throat,robbing her off both reason and resistance when his kiss intensified. Liquid fire coursed through her at the rush of feelings she hadn't felt in a long time. She wanted to stop him but her insides melted into submission,rendering all resolve as limp as her limps. "I want you,Mahek.'' He said, His voice hoarse as he cupped her face in his hands. His hungry lips lured her eyelids close when they locked a moan deep in her throat. Her breathing was as ragged when he rolled over, melding his body to hers. The smile on his face made her stomach drop and her heart race. He removed his towel and tossed it on the floor ..and for one long moment everything caught and held,words, breaths, gazes suspended as the charged air pulsed between them, saturated with anticipation. His mouth moved closer as the air thickened and smoldered hotter, shutting out everything like night shut out day. "What are you going to do to me..?'' She asked,voice sounded like a whimper. "I'm going to make love to you..right now! Right here in my room!' Tell me if you don't want me to do this ..I'll stop..we don't have to do this if you don't want it," he said gently. He meant it. As desperately as he wanted her he would do nothing until she was ready. Her smile rendered him speechless as her eyes filled with more love than he could have ever imagined on her brilliantly beautiful face. He rubbed her cheeks with the back of his fingers. "I want you to take me Shaurya..and mark me as yours...'' she whispered. "Are you sure about this?" He asked her. "I love you," she said. As if those words were the answer to everything. In a way they were. And the eagerness expanded inside of her with a sudden obsession to run her hands all over him. Heat flared in his eyes. He brought his mouth down on hers, harder, hungrier than before. He entered her mouth, thrusting his tongue inside with an eager moan. Mahek welcomed him, sucking at him, drawing him deeper, tangling her tongue with his, rubbing, stroking, enticing. A moan caught at the back of Mahek's throat. Through his briefs she could feel his length pulsing with need. With his free hand, he removed her robe,and next her lingeries joined his on the floor. Thunder rolled again,Turning him on. Her muscles clenched around him, protesting the sudden invasion. It didn't hurt..may be a little but the sudden change was startling and surprisingly fulfilling. The muscles relaxed and he slid himself out gently. She moaned as he thrust back and her hands gripped his shoulders for support. She breathed heavily in time with each thrust. Her belly began to tighten again as he continued plunging deep and hard. Sensing this, he lifted her leg over his shoulder and thrust deeper and deeper into her. She moaned at the new sensation. His hand sought the bundle of nerves and stroked it in time with their lovemaking. Her face changed instantly as her muscles began to flutter lightly around his thrusting length. Her hands clamped around his forearm and hip. Her nails dug into his skin as her pleasure peaked. She yelled out a throaty cry as the waves of her pleasure washed over her repeatedly. The cry grew and fell with each thrust from Shaurya. Her muscles rippled around him and he found himself coming. He groaned and spilled himself inside her as her cries began to wane. He fell, rather than laid himself, next to her. Both bodies were spent of energy and filled with pleasurable exhaustion. Shaurya had just enough energy to pull the blankets and cover them. He then pulled her tired body to his and pressed a kiss to her forehead. She mumbled out a tired declaration of love before promptly falling asleep. He couldn't believe they had just made love and became one from body and soul. Smiling to himself, he fell asleep holding her in his arms.
Next morning,Mahek rolled over and reached across the bed. Shaurya was gone.The wind had ceased but the downpour had continued. In that weather she was surprised by his absence. She ran her hands on the coolness of the sheets on his side as she recalled their lovemaking last night. It was the sweetest thing that happened to her. She blushed. Clutching his pillow, which still retained his manly scent which always clung to him, she found a handwritten note.
Good Morning babe,You were sleeping too peacefully to awaken. I've gone into A store to pick up a few things. I want to cook for you today. Call my cell phone if you need anything.

Mahek smiled. It was a simple note. But in the bottom corner, almost as an afterthought, he'd sketched her. It was her profile with her hair cascading over the pillow while she slept, transposed into a small pencil drawing. And underneath it he'd written My Sleeping Beauty.
