Until yesterday i was sad and upset...somehow the emotions have changed and now i am angry...really angry...

This is going to be a long rant...please bear with me...it is just that i have to get it out of my system...

I am probably one of the few who has seen the growth of ITV from the very start...from serials like Humlog, Buniyad, Circus, Nukkad to Ramayan to The Jungle book...the list goes on. TV viewing always used to be 'family time'...and all of the above serials could be watched with the family.

If the primetime is between 7-11 in the evening ...what is the rest of the family doing? Since when did we start to believe that only women watch tv and they giving TRP's? Do we really think our women have such a regressive thought process?

I can imagine if some of the serials/shows they make for afternoon are specificaly meant for non-working women (it actually used to be like that) or for retired people but primetime slots?...

TRP meteres...like really? 33,000 metres and we say that is what the country wants...just Mumbai itself has more than 10 times registered 4 wheelers..and nowadays everyone owns a tv ...even low income group...Now what surprises me is that if we have this data i am sure all the channels have this data too as well...is everyone sitting there a complete fool? Of course not...which just means that the system is more corrupt than we can imagine...

I would really like to have the data to also know where are these so called metres installed...i can imagine that demography would have changed for the simple reason that people who could afford tv's in 80-90 is different ..and hence the content but even then we deserve better!

To say that Indian audience deserves regressive content because it likes it...it's nonsense...we reject movies if there is no content...Bollywood has been giving us very good content in the recent years...and its growing..of course there is bad cinema also...but you have something for everyone..

BTW...why do we even have these so called TRP meters? In today's day and age...someone has to just write' a code/programm...and it should read all the channels i have watched,...i am anyway watching my tv through tata sky/jio/airtel etc...which can be traced...so it should not be difficult to keep the data..

I too remember Hum Log, Buniyaad, Tamas, Saans and a few others from those times. I don't know when tv became a trp rat race, but I guess it followed the commercialism of so many aspects of life.
Your questions are on point. Since when did serials begin catering to a section that a fair section of the population can't resonate with? It would be fine if the saas-bahus could coexist with the Bepannahs, but the rating system is so skewed, shows like this have to face closure. I have a suspicion that there's some degree of corruption involved too. Who decides trp households? What's the profile of trp aunties? Do they have sole discretion of what's seen on tv in prime time? I'd guess not, but apparently these ladies rule.
Where are these meters installed? I have never, never come across or heard of a single person belonging to a trp household. Then does this mean that an entire section who likes a little sense on tv is automatically at the mercy of ichadhari nagins and endless kitchen wars or mindless ongoing melodrama? Are the ratings even valid or audited or is this some farce?
How do channels earn money? It can't be that different from days when ads gave revenue. Aren't there ads in between Bepannaah? Then what exactly do trps decide? In other words, what greater value do trps bestow?
Feel robbed of my show.

But why are we even assuming that it's aunties or only women watching?...if the prime slots are evening slots..when presumably the whole family is together...do we assume that women watch the tv and men are sitting in a different room?..

I would watch re-runs of friends/big-bang..which in an urban setting i can sit and enjoy with my family. Similarly i can watch a movie...there are several good ones...but why would i watch anything which explores or shows black magic or some stupid apshaguns ...and i am still wondering when did it start actually ...before or after KektaK took over...

I have nothing against Nagin or nazar...but i am definitely thinking who watches it...no one i know..and definitely no one who has seen Harry Porter/Percy Jackson movies or GOT...so it really catering to a low income group?...of course all the jhuggi's have a tv nowadays and i can install a meter and pay them to watch what i want them to see...

About Colors ...i am still wondering who takes decisions about slots in company for Colors...that person needs to be sacked...Bepannaah or not ...no-one in their right mind would put KBC against BB. KBC, is a game but it works on selling stories with emotions...people start believing they can also make it if the other person can...it's a belief they sell...meant for people who believe in magic...

but BB...it has completely different set of viewers...even if people watch it for Salman..it is only during the weekends...
