Hi guys my friends brother works in the I&B ministry and according to him there is no concrete way of measuring the trps of tv shows its very dicey..
As per him Indian TV had TAM ratings before now BARC overtook TAM.
33,000 households have trp meters (a device that is used to gauge the trps of the show) it means even if i binge watch the repeat of bepnnah all the time it wont make an iota of difference because guess what we do not have this shit tool installed..
We have 35 homes in our locality and all of them watch the show religiously and its a big shock for me that none of it will be counted for the ratings..
I think this is very unfair 33,000 people have the power to seal the fate of a show which might be liked by a million people..
Do u guys have this crap meter installed ?
If you know more about this then please share i wanna know
And i am sorry if its already discussed

Exactly and i cant even blame the audience here even if they love the show their views wont be counted because of this show..
Shows like BP/PKHJD/POW mi8 have worked if the rating system was better

Thanks for the information.for a long time i was wondering how trp is counted in India where the population is huge.
So why the channels n shows available for us if we can't contribute to trp even if we want to?
Better let that trp system rigged and limited.atleast this way people won't watch and actors won't act in pathetic shows and move to digital space.atleast i quit tv bcoz saas bahu n naagin goes above my head and good shows don't have a chance here

Digital space is so damn under utilized medium it bugs me to no end. Good actors like harshad and jenni shd definitely switch to digital. Imagine bepannah as a web series. It would have been awesome. The entire story could have been told in 50 odd episodes and done move to season 2 again 50 episodes. Young people don't have time to sit and wait for their shows to start and then drag and have the channel intervine. It's just the question of economics of the whole system that has made so many actors shy away from it. I hope it blows uplike anything in India and we hv a revolution in digital programming. and people like us who like shows like bp don't hv to suffer at the hands of Telly industry ruled by inaccurate trp system. I must say Ekta is thinking ahead of her time and investing heavily on alt balaji. Since she is starting now when no one is there in the medium she will get ahead in the race for sure.

Television Rating Points (TRPs) have been a much debated issue in India since the present system of TRPs is riddled with several maladies such as small sample size which is not representative, lack of transparency, lack of reliability and credibility of data etc. Shortcomings in the present rating system have been highlighted by key stakeholders that include individuals, consumer groups, government, broadcasters, advertisers, and advertising agencies etc. Members of Standing Committee on Information Technology had also expressed concern over the shortcomings.
This is the summary of a study done on trp

Yes, that's true, but even if you tell viewers, they prefer to keep trying, hoping they can do something for a show they love. I don't think anyone on this forum gives trps, and ditto for the twitter kids.
Trp meter is somewhat like a settop box, if you had it, you'd know it. System must change or only the lowest common denominator will prevail.

it mi8 be available to us because we subscribe it..we may not influence the rating but we have the power of increasing or decreasing the $$ of the channel..
Channels have deals (yearly) with DTH providers and if the viewers subscribe to the channel the deal will renew (here the channel mi8 increase the price if they gain good viewrship) so if we unsubscribe the channel and there are no takers of colors it mi8 affect their revenue system..
I subscribed colors only coz of BP (even though i am at office just for the sake of trp) but viewing i got to know that i unsubscribed #RANGEELA
