I also used to think that we don't need to care about Victor if Aamir is there in the film. But if you take a close look at Aamir's filmography, then all his biggest acclaimed classics and ATHGs had a noteworthy director, who has his own good body of work without Aamir.

Like AAA director Rajkumar Santoshi director has also directed other great films like Ghayal, Ghatak and Damini.
Lagaan Director Ashutosh Gowarikor is also the director of Swades and Jodhaa Akbar.
DCH director Farhan Akhtar also directed Lakshya, RDB director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra also directed BMB.

Now coming to Aamir's ATHGs, Ghajini was a remake and it's director A.R. Murugadoss is a popular director in South.

And Rajkumar Hirani of course also had Munna Bhai series apart from 3 Idiots and PK.

Even Nitesh Tiwary before Dangal, directed Chillar Party which is a National award winning film.

I agree about Diwali holidays and box office but your logic just doesn't make sense regarding directors with good work at all. Your mentioning movies post Aamir movie.
Rajkumar Santoshi and Raj Kumar Hirani yes i agree he had directed great movies before.

Can you name Ashutosh Gowarikar movies before Lagaan?? All super flops.

A R Murugadoss was directing his first Hindi movie.

Chillar party was not some kind of path breaking or box office hit movie.

Rakyesh Om prakash directed a super flop before directing RDB.

Same you can say about RGV. Rangeela was his first success in Hindi well Shiva also did well but not a big hit.

Vikram Bhatt was a flop director before Ghulam.

What has Johnn Matthew done after Sarforosh???

DCH was Farhan Akhtar first movie. No way to say what kind of director he is.

Kunal kohli biggest hit till date will be Fanaa well Hum Tum was a hit but he also directed Mujhse Dosti Karoge.

Does one need a good director absolutely, he is the captain of the ship. But there a quite few directors who have given their best movie working with Aamir.
